Kings co-owner Gavin Maloof said on Wednesday that president Geoff Petrie can stay with the team for as long as he wants.Petrie, who is in his 16th year with the Sacramento, has no contract beyond this season.
Maloof said that there have been no formal discussions regarding an extension.
“If he wants to be back, he’ll be back,” Maloof told the Sacramento Bee. “We’ve got such a great relationship with Geoff. We’ll just sit down at the right time and do it.
“But as I mentioned and Joe mentioned, he can be a King for life as far as we’re concerned. As far as we’re concerned, we don’t need a contract.”

llperezPetrie is well respected throughout Sacramento. The owners, fans, media and everyone there trusts him. He is not perfect, but he does a great job with what he has available. One of the worst things he has probably done was protecting Webber in the 2004 expansion draft instead of Gerald Wallace. Webber was making 20 million and was coming off some injuries. There was no way Charlotte was gonna pick him up in the expansion draft. Instead they went with the young and improving Wallace who was making a couple million. The Kings could have kept them both if they had just protected Wallace instead.
