     Hello fellow posters,

I’m writing to figure out what do you all think the Hawks can fetch for Lou Williams. He had a down year, coming back off of injuries, but really stepped up in the playoffs. If the Hawks were to shop him, what can we expect to get? If we packaged him with #15, can we get deep into the lotto? Or more realistically, can we get a top 25 pick for him straight up?

My reasonings behind shopping him are as followed:

    1. Chances are high that we draft a wing at 15, most likely a sg. The players in this range are ready to contribute, outside of Levine, and should get minutes. Including Schroeder, we’ll benefit by giving him and our rookie 2nd string minutes from the start.

    2. Another 1st rounder in this deep draft can allow us to add another wing prospect at sf (Early, Warren, Robinson) who are also all ready for minutes and fill our other position of need. I also wouldn’t mind picking up Nurkic. I’m thinking most teams picking around here are contenders and will love the shot in the arm Lou can give their bench.

    3. Moving Lou for a pick will add another 5 million to our cap space, currently expected to be around 12 or 13 million. Now at 18 million, we have space to pursue a top free agent or be a major trade partner for teams looking to get cap space for this Summer.

Note, Hawks are rebuilding for the future, while remaining competitive now. No tanking, even though Ferry did proclaim "our goal wasn’t to make the playoffs this year." I think they need to take advantage of this draft since chances are we’ll never be terrible enough to get a high pick next year, unless the Nets are terrible and we exercise our right to swap picks with them.

Would be a good fit for Lou Will?

I actually hope the Hawks don’t give up on Lou. Last season he was still recovering from injury. I think he can still be the scorer off the bench the Hawks need next season after he gets his explosiveness and quickness back. But the Hawks do need to find a way to move up in the draft via trade. But that means losing some valuable assets whether it’s future picks or some of our more valuable guys who are all on reasonable contracts.
