ExumInfernoParticipantPhoenix got a good prospect with Len, but then when they hoped for Aldridge they signed veteran center Chandler. Len has to get more minutes, but what does Phoenix do?
What would you do, start Len next to Chandler and go extra big, keep Len as a scoring big off the bench and possible 6th Man award winner, sit Chandler who has lots of money and years on his contract and give him small minutes off the bench, or trade Chandler now or at the deadline?
If the Suns do keep everyone in their current roles, backup centers around the league are going to give up a lot of points to Len.
I saw a note that Len was training with Tim Duncan in the offseason, that would have helped him a lot.
My idea would be to make Len the focus of the offense, and try to use Chandler next to him.

trelos6ParticipantPlay Len at PF and trade Morris to Nets or something. Markieff and Marcus are childish.

PulseGlazerParticipantThere are enough minutes for all 3, and Chandler is hurt fairly often. I think Chandler ends up trade eventually.

OhCanada-ParticipantLen is young. Start Chandler and limit his minutes bring Len off the bench as an energy big until he proves he is definitely better than Chandler. They have time to polish him. He is still frail and needs to add strength. His skill is good for his position yet he has more work to do.

Andrew1984ParticipantA guy who averages 4.7 points and 5.0 rebounds is not too good for anything.

GBeeParticipantHe’s looked good in preseason that’s for sure. It’s just preseason but he’s putting up 14/7 2 blks, 62TS%, 36.5PER in about 19 minutes a game. Per 36 pace adjusted thats 26/13 and 3 blks just to give you an idea of his rate of production. He was already pretty good defensively last year, he just needed to find his footing offensively, stay healthy and gain more experience. He’s coordinated, has good touch and shows real promise with his shot (shooting 92% from the line in preseason).
Considering what he brings to the table offensively compared to Chandler, he’s the more balanced player, but Tyson is still very good defensively and it makes no sense to pay a guy to be an anchor just to bring him off the bench. I don’t think TC and Len complement eachother well and the Suns will be trying to pump and dump Markieff (and TC too eventually), so Len should still come off the bench, but he should be playing 25+ minutes a game at least.

PulseGlazerParticipantYou could have stopped after "It’s just preseason." No need for the but.

Dazzling Dunks and Basketball BloopersParticipantAlthough I wasn’t a huge fan of them signing Chandler (especially considering that they didn’t get Aldridge) I do think that he can be a nice mentor for len. I think Chandler will start this season and len will come off the bench but he will still get a decent amount of mins. Chandler is 33 and will almost certainly not be playing more than 30 mins a game, and len has shown enough offensive versatility that you could situationally play him next to Chandler at pf for short stretches. Eventually I would expect len to either take over as the starter or be traded though.

HitsterParticipantPhoenix have signed Chandler to a 4 year deal and as an FA, I’m sure he asked for an idea of what his role and minutes would be like. With the length of his deal it’s a clear commitment and he’s their 2nd highest paid plyer after Bledsoe.
With Chandler being 33 now and now going into his 15th NBA season, not playing 35mpg night after night would be appealing and he can help mentor Len. Markieff Morris has earned his starting role and started every game last season but on the flip side came from the bench every game in 2013-14 to almost equal effect.
There are 96 frontcourt minutes to share around so Jeff Hornacek can run a 3 or 4 man rotation quite easily.
I’ll certainly look forward to seeing Len and Chandler as a duo on court as Len can be a size mismatch for a lot of PF’s and can allow Chandler to anchor the defence.
