d-ravParticipantAnyone here get the feeling Fields will, sometime during the season, become a fave of D’antoni (for his blue collar approach and intangibles), becoming an important rotation player, supplanting Bill Walker as the primary SF off the bench? Possibly even a starter alongside Chandler on the wing? With that said, Landry Fields should be a darkhorse candidate for the ROY. Though if Bill Walker shows he can do the “one percenters” (defense, hustle, not standing around), then he should have no prob maintaining his spot as an integral rotation player (or starter). Also, i see Azabuike as the Knicks other wing to start alongside Chandler.

bennydabullParticipantIsn’t it a little too early to be making these predictions… especially since you are only basing it off his performance in summer league?
Summer league!

llperezwell that and the fact he was one of the best players in college. Its not like beating out bill walker, roger mason, kelana azubuike or andy rautins is a muderers row of talent.
To answer the question, i think all those backups on the wing are pretty similar in talent and it will come down to good old fashion fighting for minutes in practice.

MagikKnickParticipantDont think it really matters, D’Antoni likes to keep a short rotation, and I wouldnt be surprised if they were both left out if it.

knicks82ParticipantI agree that Fields and Walker could very well be left out of the rotation. D’antoni likes to use a 8 man rotation, 9 max. Im thinking the 3 guys off the bench are Chandler (assuming Buike is healthy and gets the starting 2 spot) Randolph and Mason. With Douglas being the 9th guy. I think the Knicks are definately gonna make some sort of trade sooner rather than later…just a feeling I get.

sheltwon3ParticipantHow is Azubuike starting over Roger Mason? I would see Bill Walker starting at 2 before I see Azubuike. I think Roger Mason has a good shot at being the starting two guard or getting top minutes off the bench. Azubuike to me is trade bait.
0- Posted on: Thu, 08/05/2010 - 6:37pm #369950
knicks82ParticipantHeres how Buike starts over Mason. Buike shot 46% from the field in 08/09. shot 54% last year in just 9 games. But more importantly he shot 44% from 3 in 08/09 on 94-210 attempts. And heres another nice little nugget about Buike:
The former Kentucky Wildcat can also function as the late-game stopper the Knicks sorely need at the guard position. Azubuike was the diamond in the rough in Golden State, often assigned the opponent’s top scoring threat on the perimeter. By using his toughness and lateral quickness, Azubuike was one of the league’s top isolation defenders in his last full season in 2008-09, holding his man to just 0.70 points per possession on isolation sets (league average is 0.86 PPP).

sheltwon3Participantknicks82, i have seen both play and while Buike is solid, Mason can take over games. Buike did all that playing for GSW. I have watched him play and he is solid but there is nothing that really excited me about him but hey you could be right but I doubt it. Roger Mason would dwarf those numbers if he was in the same system and how can you pull up numbers that a player did in 9 games. Come on man that is not enough games because a few good games in that 9 could have his stats at ridiculous numbers.
Azubuike defense is nice though but Mason is no slouch neither and if i had to pick someone to shoot a 3, I am going with Roger Mason.

stanford hoopsmason doesnt take over games…ever!!! he can hit the three and is a good player but hes never taken over games. hes always just been a good peice to a team.
as far as walker or fields i also wouldnt be suprised if both arent in the rotation

iguapops420Participantlil’ bill will be in the rotation. D’anonti was pretty high on him if i recall after the trade last yr. to guess id think fields doesnt fit the team theyre developing.
Felton
gallo
chandler
amare
turiafbench-randolph, walker, douglas, mason. kelenna could be odd man out seeing as hes recovering still.
honestly wouldnt be that surprised to see turiaf end up benched for a more marion type in randolph
my personal choice would be something likefelton/douglas
walker/mason/kelenna
gallo/chandler
randolph/turiaf
amare/mozgovperfect team to compliment felton as lead guard and amare as primary scoring option. very reminiscent of the original run and gun suns team with nash, joe johnson, Q, marion, and amare.

yellowdunkerParticipantFelton-pg 35+mins
mason-sg
Chandler-sf
Galinari-pf
Stoudemire-C 40+minsmy projected starters for NYK’s run and gun 7sec or less style of play
Randolph-sf/pf maybe some PG…….
Azubuike-sg/sf
Turiaf-c
Douglas-pg
I SEE A POSSIBLE TRADE FOR WALKER DUE TO LOG JAM AT THE 3 AND THE 2 SPOT
as for the rest of those guys i dont see much playing time…. andy rautins got game he will fit in sooner or later….0 - Posted on: Fri, 08/06/2010 - 2:32am #370016
JNixonParticipantLMFAO @ Roger Mason takes over games.
0 - Posted on: Fri, 08/06/2010 - 2:57am #370019
Rock_Cat78ParticipantThat’s interesting regarding Kelenna’s defense. At UK, he wasn’t really known as a great defender at all. He was considered average at best. He will be a great fit though in D’Antoni’s offense. Kelenna was great in Golden State when he got consistent minutes. Trouble is, they seemingly always had 10 guards/wings on the roster and Kelenna would go from starting a while to almost zero minutes on a whim. He always produced though and had some monster games for GS. If he comes back healthy this year, he’ll do really well for NY. Roger Mason over Kelenna shouldn’t even be a discussion.

sheltwon3ParticipantIggy you must forget what he did for Washington when Arenas was down but hey it is cool. It is funny how you so called basketball experts forget stuff. I think he helped win a few game for the Spurs with he outside shooting.
0 - Posted on: Fri, 08/06/2010 - 4:39am #370046
JNixonParticipantThere is a HUGE difference between making a clutch shot and taking over a game. Taking over a game is what Kobe does, where he gets on a role and gets like 20 points in the 4th quarter or something. Roger Mason made some clutch shots for the Spurs but to say he took over games isn’t true, and it’s laughable.
0 - Posted on: Fri, 08/06/2010 - 4:59am #370053
sheltwon3ParticipantTaking over games does not have to be on the level of Kobe. I guess we look at taking over game differently then. Also he put up numbers in Washington and I am sure he had a few 20 plus games with the Spurs and scored a lot in the 4th quarter for the win to register as taking over that game but hey you know what we will just see that as being different.
You takes short at what I say but it is clearly that you just see things way diffrent than me which does not make you right or wrong.
You trying to make it seem like Roger Mason sucks or is just a chump player and he is not. He could start for a lot of teams and can play both guard spot. All it takes is the right opportunity.
0 - Posted on: Fri, 08/06/2010 - 5:11am #370058
JNixonParticipantLOL alright man. You say I take “shorts” of what you say and then say I’m making it like Roger Mason sucks. When did I say that? Just because he doesn’t take over games doesn’t mean I think he sucks. It just means he doesn’t take over games. Come on now. Roger Mason takes over games? He might get hot extremely sporadically, but to say he takes over games is silly man.

It hasn’t taken long for Knicks fans to come around on this one. I’m sure we are in store for plenty of threads where Knick fans think they are excited over their thoughts of trading Landry Fields, Andy Rautins, and Wilson Chandler for Chris Paul.
Let’s see: John Wall, Evan Turner, DeMarcus Cousins, Greg Monroe, Landry Fields. Yep, sounds about right.

UofAxWildcatsParticipanti think its bill walkers job to lose for the 2 guard position ,, he has lost 30 pounds this offseason and d’antoni said he was really impressed with his dedication this offseason.. and watching bill play in the summer league looks like he has bounce back finnallly that made him a projected top 10 pick before he tore his ACL his first year at KSTATE

omar dayzeParticipantim glad someone else gives kelana azubuike some props, he can ball. Very solid athlete who plays within himself.

sheltwon3Participantiggy that shorts thing was a typo and taking over games is taking over games i did not say he takes over every game. All you have to do is take over more than one game for what i said to be true. I think Azubuike is solid but I feel like Mason is better and can be more a offensive threat and score more explosively than Azubuike. When Tony Delk scored 55 points one game, he took that game over. Does that mean he is like Kobe no but for that game and I think a few other, he took over. Some player dont have it in them to do stuff like that but are solid. You are Judging my statements based on what your definition of taking over is and not mine. When give touches and shots, Mason has shown he can put up numbers on par with some of the top players but he does not get the minutes. Dude had some high numbers at a consistent rate when he stood in for Arenas and was key to them making the playoffs and the year Mason left they could not overcome Arenas being injured.

Choooch10Participantsheltwon are you Roger Mason? ive never seen someone fight about a bench player taking over games hahaahha roger is a 8 ppg player not a guy who can take over games
0 - Posted on: Fri, 08/06/2010 - 11:27am #370266
stanford hoopsroger mason has never taken over game’s though..even with washington…name some games where he took over???
0 - Posted on: Fri, 08/06/2010 - 5:15pm #370408
sheltwon3ParticipantTony Delk who once had a 55 point game and some other high scoring games averaged less than that and I am not Roger Mason. If i was I would not be on this site because there are no women on here and some of yall are trolls and just trying to start stuff.
