JonOatsParticipantLakers get Steve Nash, Michael Beasley, Brad Miller
Wolves get Pau Gasol and Laker’s 1st rounder from dallas
Suns get Derrick Williams and Steve Blake
LA acquires the PG they need and hard to find a better passer than Nash. Beasley obv is a downgrade but game would work with Drew. Beasley is a scorer but doesn’t have to be on the block. Miller provides a backup for Drew who’s a big body and willing passer. If this doesn’t work this year, the contracts of Nash and Beasley come off the books and by using amnesty on Walton or World Peace puts the Lakers 12 million under the cap. This gives them freedom to find a point guard or possibly sign and trade still for Howard in the offseason.
Wolves get Pau and dump Beasley who they didn’t really want. They build around Love, Rubio, and Pau and draft a SG this year since there are going to be a ton available and they currently don’t have a first rounder. Pek comes off the bench now and Wolves have a lot of different frontcourt pieces that compliment each other better than current team.
Suns get something back for Nash. Two cheap contracts since their owner is always looking to save money. Two starters for 4 million a year a piece is not bad. Blake can hold this down for this year and then take a PG or look for one in free agency which they would have had to do anyway. They get a strong frontcourt and keep their youth movement moving forward.

PurpleMonkeyDishwasherParticipantWhen did Pau Gasol get to be so valuable? I’m not saying he’s not a fine player… but I would like to know what makes the Lakers think Kevin Love is worth less than Gasol given the fact that Gasol is more expensive and has many more miles and is not nearly as consistant as Love.

Chilbert arenasParticipantAs a Suns fan I would be heart broke to see Nash go to the Lakers, but at this point I just want to see him in a position to win.
And are we sure the Wolves don’t want Beasley at all?

Da1potParticipantThis isn’t that bad of a trade in all honesty, but if I’m the Suns, I want a LOT more for Steve Nash than just Derrick Williams( who is a good young player, don’t get me wrong)… Nash is still leading the NBA in assists and I guarantee that the Suns will sell him very high. This trade would benefit the TWolves if they were a contending team, but there is no reason for them to acquire Gasol at the expense of Williams and Beasley, if they are just going to get swept in the first round of the playoffs anyways( if they even make the playoffs that is).

PurpleMonkeyDishwasherParticipantIf Derrick Williams becomes a 20/10 player that he is projected to become that’s not a bad return on a 38 yr old investment.

drk3351Participantwho projects him to be a 20-10 guy? i think more like 14 and 6

Chilbert arenasParticipantWilliams did play at Arizona, he is loved in the state, and has big upside. Suns aren’t going to get much more.

PurpleMonkeyDishwasherParticipantYou need to read a bit more NBA than you do apparently… It was the main reason he ended up being selected #2 overall. Not often are forwards projected to to be 14/6 end up being consensus #2 picks.

SeattleSuperChronicsParticipantthe lakers already have a point that plays no d. Why would they want two old pgs. obviously Nash is an upgrade but no this would never happen. l see the lakers making a play for Derek Williams and I admit rubio and gosal together is interesting

PlatypusParticipantIf the Suns are going to trade Nash they are going to pick up a point guard of the future. Maybe make it a four team trade and include the bobcats so that they can get augustin.
Maybe something like, yeah im not adding picks just talking player persepective
This is very rough idea
Twolves get Gasol and DJ White
Rubio – Ridnour – Johnson – Love – Gasol
Barea – Ellington – Webster – White – Pekovic
Bobcats get Beasley, Darius Morris, and Warrick
Walker – Henderson – Beasley – Warrick – Biyombo
Morris – Williams – Maggette – Thomas – Mullins
Suns get Agustin, Diaw, Williams, and Lee
Augustin – Brown – Williams – Morris – Gortat
Price – Redd – Dudley – Diaw – Lopez
Lakers get Nash, Hill, Frye and Brad Miller
Nash – Bryant – Hill – Frye – Bynum
Fisher – Groudelouk – Artest – Murphy – Miller

JonOatsParticipantPau as a center is top 10 at his position for sure and possibly top 5 behind only Howard, Bynum, Marc Gasol, and maybe Tyson Chandler
The Lakers don’t want a complete over haul at this point in the season and want to get younger while still being a contender right now. They can’t wait for Williams to develop. Nash is purely a rental to win this year. He’s a great passer and helps fix their outside shooting problem. There aren’t many answers to fix their lack of defense at PG, but Nash is a huge upgrade. They CANNOT win this year they way the team is now and having some free agent money next year is huge.
The Suns aren’t going to find anything better than Derrick Williams for Nash. Their owner won’t take on huge contracts and no one else other than the Lakers would give up as much for a 38 year old player. The Knicks might have before Lin but not now.
Beasley, Love, and Williams are too similiar to all co-exist. Beasley is gone after this season anyway. No way he re signs in Minny. With this trade you have 3 All Star caliber players and those positions locked up for 3 more years. That white boy big three could be dangerous if they find some shooters to go with them.

apb540ParticipantI think it’s a decent trade for all teams if you take Beasley out and send that first rounder to the Suns. Only problem is that messes up the salaries.
Do the T-Wolves have any interest in Gasol? A Love-Gasol tandem is nice on offense but defensively they are going to struggle.

drk3351Participant@ PurpleMonkey, this past draft was very weak, if he came out this year he would be projected 6 or 7. he has potentail but not superstar potentail in my opinion kinda like evan turner. they were both picked #2, both had or having average rookie years, and in my opinion both will have solid not great NBA careers.
0 - Posted on: Thu, 02/16/2012 - 5:15pm #637782

PurpleMonkeyDishwasherParticipantWhat of it being a weaker than average draft? That has nothing to do with one players projections from a weaker draft. I don’t care what draft you are talking about a 14/6 player isn’t going #2.

CodySLCParticipantIdk how the Suns could ask for much more for Nash. He doesnt have more than 2 or 3 good years left in him.
