Looks like it is unofficially official via Shams and Woj that Lakers have traded Danny Green and the 28th pick to OKC for Dennis Schroder.

Personally as a Lakers fan I don’t really like it. I think the Lakers could have landed a player like Grant Riller at #28 who has the potential to be just as good or better than Dennis Schroder and he is pretty NBA ready for a rookie and we gave up Danny Green too.

I like Schroder as a fit though def. is an upgrade over any PG we had last year. Has proven he can play on or off the ball and last two years has improved as a spot up shooter.

Lakers should have received a 2nd round pick of some sort in return imo. Schroder I think you will like though. You have to give credit to OKC’s Sam Presti…

1+ For your statement about Grant Riller at 28 and possibly becoming a better player than Schroder….I Wonder what was some of the Offers for Schroder for OKC to send him to Lakers for only Danny Green & a late 1st..Milwaukee was Dangling Bledsoe..Maybe OKC wasnt looking for long term contracts in return…..Bledsoe has 2 years remaining…While Green will become a free agent after next season…

Schroder shot 41% of 273 Catch & Shoot 3s in 2019-20……Schroder doesnt have Rondo’s savvy, but he’s a much better scorer and he’s good at driving into the lane..A Stat the Lakers would near the bottom….
People ask how does this affect Rondo? I think the question is what do they plan to resign KCP? They need some 3 & D wings…Do they feel Talen Horton Tucker is ready for a larger role?

Lakers made the trade because they think Rondo is gone.

As a lakers fan, mixed feelings on this trade. Green was inconsistent in the playoffs but very valuable during the regular season. His ability to guard elite wings spared lebron from having to deal with that responsibility for large stretches. Not sure if they have another player on their roster right now that can do that. He also plays exclusively off the ball and fit seamlessly next to lebron-ad. I also hate the idea of giving up additional draft picks (even if its a late first) since they have traded so many already.
However, Schroeder should give them another primary scoring option and upgrade at back up pg. As much as rondo came through in the playoffs, he was an offensive and defensive liability at times during the season. This gives them another proven scorer and pick and roll player they can run offense through and potentially lighten some of lebrons offensive load. We’ll see what other moves they make to fill out the rest of the roster around their 2 stars.

Danny Green take a lot of defensive responsibility off LeBron, and Rondo took a lot of ballhandling/playmaking responsibility off him. If both of those guys are gone, I really don’t like the Lakers’ offseason. If Bradley comes back he will help replace Green on D, although Bradley’s more an on-ball hawk, whereas Green is more the quintessental team defender.
