laarethekingsParticipantLakers send Pau Gasol
to
Raptors for Andrea Bargnani and their lottery pick.
Why the Lakers would do this? It gets them back something they haven’t had in a long time… A Shooter. Also getting a top 8 pick will help them retool the team for the little time Kobe has left.
Why the Raps do this? Would get a Vet all star player to help your young Jonas Valanciunas move into the NBA also you now have to 7 footers who can play plus Ed Davis off the bench and Johnson. You could flip on of them to fill out the roster.

NiceWithTheRockParticipantI don’t think the Raps go for it. Bargs plus whoever they get in the draft would be better than Gasol. Especially if they get a top 5 pick.

OldSkoolBasketballParticipantRaptors are not going to give up their best player along with a lottery pick for an aging Gasol just for mentor.

capecodderParticipantYou don’t rebuild by trading you lottery pick (unless it’s like the Celtics did in 2007)….Gasol is beyond prime and not up to the caliber that Allen and Garnett were in ’07

laarethekingsParticipantBargnani is the best player on their team is the problem. Pau is head and above a better player than him. Also why wouldn’t you set up your young rookie coming over? Also you act like the raps are getting some vet that can’t play. Pau is still a 17 to 18 and 9 guy.

Chilbert arenasParticipantHow does it work out money wise? I also don’t think Kobe is going to be too happy about Bargnani if he thinks Pau is soft. The deal breaker would be where the Raptors end up picking, they could be top 5 and that would be a bad deal for them in that case

Chilbert arenasParticipantYou really that confident that Thomas Robinson, Andre Drummond, Jeremy Lamb, or Harrison Barnes are better than Gasol?

J_01ParticipantBargnani was averaging 22ppg before his injuries this year and the raptors were actually fighting for a low playoff seed. So I don’t see how that is such a big problem. Gasol’s value is decreasing as he is aging while Bargnani and the incoming draft pick are young and still have loads to improve. This deal is really good for the Lakers as they can get some young talent to improve their roster but how would this help the raptors. Yes Gasol is probably better than Bargnani but adding a veteran that is getting old and past his prime doesn’t help a rebuilding situation like the Raptors. If they were a team who just needs that last piece to contend now it would be a different situation but the raps are building for the future and Gasol doesn’t look like he’l be getting better in future seasons.

NashyMingParticipantI would trade Jose Calderon and Andrea Bargnani for Pau Gasol and then flip Gasol to the Rockets for a nice package.
Come to think about it. Since Raptors will likely draft #8 and below, if Houstons is willing to offer more pieces, I would include the pick too.

mj23mj23besteverParticipanteven if the pick would be the 8th pick the lakers would be looking at pj3 austin rivers or kendall marshall any of them come in and add depth imo bargs would work great playing pf beside bynum

xavier328ParticipantThats what we really need is a stretch 4 to take some double teams off Bynum if he still here.

DolanCareParticipantI offered during the season that the Lakers should trade calderon and bargnani for Pau.
That would help the Lakers just because it would give them a chance at another run. Calderon would be a good facilatator.

joecheck88ParticipantDifference Gasol and Bargs is Bargs will shoot it. I don’t think it’s a terrible trade. I don’t think it would happen though. Gasol would be nice in Toronto as the go to post scorer. He is going to age gracefully with his skills.
