    NEW HEAD COACHING HIRES:

Bulls: Billy Donovan replaces Jim Boylen

Nets: Steve Nash replaces Kenny Atkinson

Knicks: Tom Thibodeau replaces Mike Miller

STILL LOOKING FOR NEW HEAD COACH:

    76ers: ? replaces Brett Brown

    Pacers: ? replaces Nate McMillan

    Rockets: ? replaces Mike D’Antoni

    Pelicans: ? replaces Alvin Gentry

There have been 3 coaching changes made so far this off-season (Bulls, Nets, Knicks) and none have been African-American coaches. Leaving the Pelicans, Pacers, 76ers and Rockets as the 4 teams still looking for a head coach.

The NBA currently has 5 African American head coaches: JB Bickerstaff (Grizzlies), Lloyd Pierce (Hawks), Dwayne Casey (Pistons), Doc Rivers (Clippers) & Monty Williams (Suns). The NBA player make up is over 80% African-American.

So why so few African-American head coaches in a league that promotes equality, diversity, opportunity as a strength? A league with only one African-American franchise owner (Michael Jordan- Hornets) and many front offices that lack diversity (GMs & Presidents Of Basketball Operations).

Who will be hired at the four open coaching positions? The 76ers are reportedly zeroing in on Mike D’Antoni so seemingly only three head coaching jobs remain viable for any African-American coaching candidates? Thoughts?

I am not going to make this political but the fact that it was legal, or seen as legal to kill a black woman with zero problems with the law (boyfriend as well) in her sleep, and there is NO legal consequence for this mistake clearly shows there is some level of systematic racism in the states. I really hope the lack of diversity in nba head coaches does not demonstrate this as well through the eyes of nba owners- but its very clear that Ty Lue and Nate Mcmillan should be employed as head coaches in this league.

I wasn’t a big fan of Ty Lue as a coach because it more felt like LeBron was the coach, but I do think he does deserve an opportunity where he isn’t LeBron’s puppet. I have also felt McMillian shouldn’t have been fired from Indiana and I feel him in Philly makes sense because of the 2 center situation, but its whatever. Some reform definitely needs to be done, but I honestly don’t think race is coming into the coaches being hired. Donovan had a better year with OKC, that was a given as well as D’Antoni. Thibs…NYK wanted him so sure, and I felt like Nash was only put there because that’s who Irving and Durant wanted so, maybe…I definitely want McMillian to get another gig somewhere but at this point…is Houston or the Pels likely to give him the job when they want a run-n-gun offense?

Add Doc Rivers (LA Clippers ) to the list of head coaches being replaced this off-season. So now there are currently only 4 African-American head coaches in a league where over 80% of the players are African-American. How progressive is the NBA really? It’s all seemingly an illusion of inclusion…off of the court and on the sidelines, front offices plus the inside the owner’s box. Time will tell who gets the remaining open coaching jobs.

Doc has brought in a good staff in Philly in Sam Cassell, Dan Burke, and Dave Joerger.
Lue has brought in a good staff too in LAC in Dan Craig, Kenny Atkinson, Larry Drew, and Chauncey Billups
Silas has brought in a good staff in Houston surrounding himself with former head coaches in Nate McMillan, Jeff Hornacek, and John Lucas.
Nash has an interesting staff in Brooklyn with Jacque Vaughn and Amare Stoudemire. (Rumored Mike D’Antoni may be joining staff.)
Thibodeau staff is interesting in NY with Johnie Bryant, Kenny Payne, Mike Woodson, Andy Greer, and Dice Yoshimoto

Oklahoma City Thunder promoting assistant Mark Daigneault to head coach.

The NBA added 2 African American head coaches this off season (Tyronn Lue- LAC & Stephen Silas- HOU).

The NBA still has a long ways to go in equality off of the basketball court in the front offices and ownership areas as well as the head coaching and related basketball staffing areas too. It’s 2020 not 1970…let that sink in. Peace
