Kobe: Smush Parker was “the worst”

    October 10th, 2012, 10:07 pm · · posted by

Looking around the locker room now, Kobe Bryant can laugh about the days when his teammates included Smush Paker, Chris Mihm and Kwame Brown. Despite the number of seasons and NBA championships that have gone by, Bryant still bristles when he thinks of the 2005-06 season.

“I almost won an MVP with Smush Parker and Kwame Brown on my team,” Bryant said before Wednesday’s 93-75 exhibition loss to Portland. “I was shooting 45 times a game. What was I supposed to do? Pass it to Chris Mihm or Kwame Brown.”

Bryant was referring to 2005-06 when the Lakers’ roster included Brian Cook, Stanislav Medvedenko, Devean George and Parker, Mihm and Brown.

Bryant continued, taking aim at his favorite whipping boy, Parker, calling him “the worst. He shouldn’t have been in the NBA but we were too cheap to pay for a point guard. So we let him walk on.”

Guess Bryant has  a long memory.

Guess Kobe never forgets, lol. Glad to see he is appreciative now after what went through immediately after Shaq’s departure. Being fair to Smush, he might not have been "the worst", just definitely did not tear it up considering the minutes he was playing for the Lakers. Kobe does not mince words and I thought after the amazing Kwame Brown story told last summer, this was another gem.

or does Kobe sound like an egocentric prick here? Even if he’s mostly right and trying to joke around, that’s a pretty unkind way to talk about former teamates.

I think Kobe finished 4th in MVP voting that season, which was just crazy to me considering he led that team to the playoffs…

Didn’t he average 35 ppg that year? It’s insane and he is correct. Maybe not politically correct but that team was atrocious and Kobe had them light years ahead of what they would have been without him.

I remember that season they went to the playoffs with Smush, Steve Nash was running circles around him and daring him to shoot. I agree though, Kobe shouldn’t be bringing his name up still.

I might say the same things if I was Kobe.  I mean, he is just telling us the truth.

That’s very messed up how he threw his old teammates under the bus like that. Chris Paul and lebron had had WAY worse teams than Kobe but they would never bash on their  old teams like that

While I agree Chris Paul and Lebron had bad teams, I definitely think David West and Mo Williams were way better than anyone other than Kibe on that team.

Lamar Odom averaged 15 9 and 5.5 that year for LA, leading the team in rebounding, and assists, so I strongly disagree.

Why are people surprised by this? It is Kobe we are talking about here, and Smush Parker! Sounds like something Kobe’s idol MJ would do. Not surprising or a big deal, but funny though.

In all actuality Smush Parker isn’t a bum, for that matter no one who plays in the NBA and starts is a bum, maybe he might not be as good as other players in the NBA, but Smush in no bum, he’s a certified legend in NYC that says alot.

i dont mind kobe calling out smush since i know smush has said stuff about kobe aswell so thats all fair game. And i dont mind calling out kwame since even kwame knows he was sorry and bryant has said it to his face, not behind his back or just in the media. Mihm actually was decent when healthy and if theres no beef between them, kobe should let all those other players go on with their lives and not be an ass.

Also, smush wasnt that awful. He shouldnt have been a starting pg, but he played well for about a season and half with the lakers. Could knock down shots and finish in traffic and wasnt a complete liability on defense.

As for kobes mvp candidacy that year, yeah i have already beat that horse to death. But what should really make even non kobe fans or people who do not beleive kobe was the mvp that year shake their heads is that about 1/4th of the voters who are supposed to turn in a list of their top 5 didnt even include him. To say he wasnt even top 5 is flat out ridiculous.

I actually liked Smush Parker.  Kobe sounds like an egotistical jerk here.  He averaged 11.5 points per game in 100 odd games for the Lakers, so no, he is not "the worst."

I can’t believe noone has lost it on Kobe in the locker room with the way he treats his teammates sometimes.  I mean it would automatically end their career with the Lakers but would make for a great story.

Come on Kobe, Smush and Kwame may have been bad, but they’re still human.
