Kobe says Brandon Roy is the toughest player to guard in the league.

    http://realgm.com/src_wiretap_archives/69731/20101023/kobe_roy_is_toughest_opponent_to_guard/

I think Artest said the same thing when he was with the Rockets during the playoff series between Houston and Portland.

Roy is so clever, in addition to his offensive skill set, hes a good athlete, but imagine if he had atleast Dwayne Wade’s first step and athletecism.  The guy gets it done by using his head.

I’m sick of Brandon Roy. He isn’t the kind of player that you build a team around. Kind of selfish.

Most of my homeboys here in Portland want him off the Blazers.

He doesn’t move (at all) without the ball, if he doesn’t get the ball enough then he doesn’t defend, and he has a poor shot selection.

He may be a 20, 5, 5 player but he has a poor attitude and I wouldn’t want him on my team.

for once, I can’t say I’m with you.
    B-Roy isn’t a player you’d want on your team?
    Blasphemy.

    Why?

You think any team with Brandon Roy on it could win a championship? Unlike Kobe, Roy does not help his team, unless the ball is in his hands AT ALL TIMES. If he doesn’t have the ball, he doesn’t move an inch. His defense is mediocre, his shot-selection is very questionable and he is not the leader a player with his ability should be.

If you don’t watch Portland play a lot, then I can understand why you think Brandon Roy is a great team player. Truth is, Portland was one of the worst passing teams in the NBA last season. You’d think a team with Andre Miller and Brandon Roy would be a good passing team, but they both have a tendency to go one-on-one too often and settle for a 20-foot fadeaway brick. If Roy would cut off-the-ball every once in a while and use his tremendous finishing ability, then not only would he be playing to his own strengths, but to Andre Miller’s as well. THESE are things that a leader does to help his team win.

If Brandon Roy is on your team, he would have to be the best player on your team or else he would not be nearly as effective. Despite what he thinks, he alone can not carry a team to a championship. This is why so many people here in Portland are so low on him right now.

So again, why? Why would you want Brandon Roy on your team?

I know the Knicks couldnt trade for him with the pieces available and Roy’s contract, but he’s absolutely the kind of player the Knicks need to start to contend. A Roy/Stoudemire pick-and-roll would be hard to stop. Damn near indefensible.

I think what seperates Joe Johnson and Brandon Roy is killer instinct, Roy has it and Johnson doesn’t, atleast when it comes to big games such as the playoffs.  They put up similar number, but as a player they are different.  I do think Roy is stuck between being a "Superstar" and an "All-Star", I think the reason for that is he doesn’t have "game changing" elite athletecism that Wade and Kobe has, like I said if he even had Wade’s athletecism the guy could seriously challege Kobe as the top SG, but his average athletecism has him as the 3rd best, which says alot about his Basketball IQ and skill set.

I agree he may be a little overrated, but you cant honestly say he has basically a negative value, he turned  one of the worst teams in the league, into a 56 win team that tied for the second seed in the tough western conference.

I’m the toughest player to guard.

    I’d drop 100 in today’s game.

I didn’t mean to imply that he is a negative value. It’s just that he won’t ever be willing to settle for being a second option. He recently stated that he needs the ball even more. That means that the Blazers need to surround him with players who don’t need the ball to be effective, and that severely limits the potential of the Blazers.

I agree with literally everything you said about Roy. He has a quiet personality, but don’t let that fool you. He’s a great player, but is very selfish. It’s all me, me and me with him.

Superstars have to be selfish to an extent, but I think he’s selfish in the wrong way. He’s selfish in the type of way that’ll stunt the growth of his teammates. He’s complained the last two pre-seasons about having the ball more and his role, but I haven’t heard him say anything about getting better at the defensive end or rounding out his game.

I’m starting to think Portland’s young core is overrated.

which I define as "A player that can win a championship as the #1 on a team" are few and far between. Players like Johnson, Roy, D Williams are just a few examples of players who can’t win a ring w/ the teammates they have now. Just because Roy isn’t a superstar doesnt mean he isnt one of the top players in the league.

Also, I kind of see Evan Turner as a player in the same mold as Roy. Obviously, he is not as good yet, but he has a chance to develop and get there.
