A lot of people have the Knicks drafting Tony Mitchell at 24. He is a risk but he could be a great fit with the Knicks roster. He has good size for a SF and has a strong athletic build. He could play SF next to Melo at the 4 and take on the more difficult defensive matchup. That could also allow Shumpert to move back to the 2-guard spot. He also has the ability to knock down 3’s which is a must on the Knicks. I like how he would fit.

The Knicks desperately need PG help. They could possibly find one in this deep PG class. Some PG’s projected in the second round seem to have similar upside to projected lottery PG’s but with much less risk.

I really like Myck Kabongo and think he could be the steal of the draft but I am reluctant about how he would fit with the Knicks. He needs to be a floor general and facilitate to play to his strengths. That would be a problem next to Melo who likes to dominate the ball. His lack of a jump shot also makes him a poor fit.

Erick Green seems to be the better fit for NY at the point. He has good size and shooting ability. His scoring ability would also make him a good fit next to Raymond Felton if Woodson decides to continue with his 2PG lineup. Defenses wouldnt be able to leave him alone to double Melo or JR because he is such a prolific scorer. Green seems to be an excellent fit for the Knicks.

If the Knicks are high on this Matthews from D3 they should just bet on him not being drafted and see what he has in summer league. I wouldn’t waste a pick on him. He won’t crack the rotation and anything he could/would give the Knicks would be a bonus.

Assuming Woodson plays Mitchell and Green out of necessity(probably not), the Knicks rotation would look something like this:

    C- Chandler/Camby
    PF- Anthony/Stoudemire
    SF- Mitchell/Novak
    SG- Shumpert/Smith
    PG- Felton/Green

With Kidd retired and Prigioni still a question mark the Knicks will probably have to go after a veteran PG with their mini-mid level exception. Devin Harris would be a great acquisition unless he command more than 3 million.

Some good wings that may have to accept the vet min to prove themselves are Wes Johnson and Xavier Henry. They have talent and still have potential so it is unknown what their price tags will be.

Re-signing Copeland and Kmart would be great but both may have priced themselves out if NY

I think he’d be a perfect pick for New York. He could learn from Chandler on how to defend the rim and eventually start when Chandler’s contract expires

They just lost Kidd, and they might lose JR to free agency. Either backcourt position would be a good choice at #24

I have them taking Kabongo at 24. I think they almost have to go for a guard with Kidd retiring, Prigioni potentially leaving to go back to Spain, and JR Smith potentially leaving via free agency. If every guard that could leave, does leave, they will be left with only Felton as their only guard. I like Kabongo and think he’s an undervalued PG. But if Cleveland were willing to deal their two early second rounders to move up to 24, I think it could be a fair deal for both sides.

Yeah they need a point guard but quality point guards are not rare. Players with Gobert’s size, speed, and touch are. Plus this team isn’t starting a rookie, so draft Gobert for the long term and sign veterans.

If i’m new york at 24

    1. Trade the pick down to Okc for the 29h pick and the 32nd
    Draft: Ledo and Nate Wolters,

    Felton – Shump – Copeland – Melo – Chandler
Wolters – Ledo – Richardson / Novak – Stat / Novak – Camby / Free agent (sign undrafted Zeke Marshall)

    2. Trade the pick down to Cle for 31 and 33
    Ledo and Brown or Canaan

    Felton – Shump – Copeland – Melo – Chandler
Brown – Ledo – Richardson / Novak – Stat / Novak – Camby / Free agent (sign undrafted Zeke Marshall)

    3. Keep the pick and take Mitchell. Also Buy a late rounder, there are teams that do this all the time lets say its Atlanta’s 50th pick because they want to save money

    Felton – Shump – Copeland – Anthony – Chandler
Maynor (cheap quality back up) – White – D Jones (cheap quality back up) – Stat/Novak – Camby.

Really they need to do whatever they can to trade Stat for quality back ups and expiring contracts because his contract is just eating this team alive

If the Knicks trade the #24 pick for Cleveland’s #31 & #33 then the Cavaliers will have #1, #19 & #24, they may be able to package the the latter two picks and potentially move into the late lottery. It could be interesting, unlikely, but interesting

we dont have a 2nd pick i dont think.i think we just need to take the best player available at 24.this would be a good year to have a 2nd rnd pick because some quality guards like kabongo, siva, jackson, green, wolters are gonna drop to the 2nd rnd.with that being said,id like to see us get either mitchell or dieng at 24.

I think the Knicks would be better off drafting a back up PG, if the Knicks really want to become a serious contender then Amare is gonna have to become the starter. That Melo at the 4 is great and all but kinda undersized and leves the paint open. Amare is easily the second most talented player on the team, and a Allstar when at his best. The Knicks are gonna have to find a way to make him and Melo work, if they they really want to be taken seriously

I still have them taking Larkin, although is stock is climbing. Still, I only see Milwaukee with PG need (with the 15th pick) or Utah (no. 21) depending what they do with no. 14. Larkin would provide a nice sparkplug of the bench for them.

The Knicks need to find a Forward that can compliment Carmelo Anthony. This is not an easy task and why I really like Carmelo his game makes it very difficult to not build a flawed team. Basically u need to find a player that defensively can handle Guarding 3’s on the perimeter or 4’s on the block. Can be a plus rebounder at either spot and be able to space the floor with 20 foot jump shots. Its hard to find guys that fit that profile exactly or even mostly for what the Knicks have to spend.

Other then a combo forward a quick PG that can defend quicker PG’s and break down off the dribble. A Back up Center as well

The one thing about Tony Mitchell is that he is a lottery talent. Late in the draft I think its smart to draft players with potential but have question marks. Mitchell can play 2 or 3 positions, he gave up last year so it is tough to know what he really can do but if the Knicks are going to beat the Heat they have to swing for the fences. Yes, their backcourt is the immediate need but this team is getting old and needs and influx of young talent.
I also like Kybongo for the knicks but not sure he is the best fit at PG with the rest of the team. If the team decides to draft a PG I think Larkin would be their best bet with his leadership skills and ability to get everyone involved.

    1. Knicks need to move Melo to SF. Playing PF is too much for Melo to do in an 82 game season. You’re asking Melo to box out bigger guys and often he’s guarding guys like Marc Gasol and Roy Hibbert. If Woodson gets fired, it’s because of that.

    2. Mitchell would be a solid pick, but I heard his motor isn’t always on. We have Kenyon Martin who really saved the Knicks and gave them a 2nd life, especially defensively after slumping and losing Wallace/Thomas/Camby for the season.

    3. PG is the most important position. Felton is serviceable, but often doesn’t know when to score or pass and he’s average at both components of the game. Felton is going to be 30 and Prigioni is going to be 36. Knicks need a young athletic PG who can defend like Prigioni but offer more dynamic ability in scoring and passing, guys like Larkin and Schroeder should be targets but may be gone before pick 16. If I was the Knicks, I would trade up.

    4. Other PG’s like Green, Canaan, McCollum and McCallum are scoring guards with limited passing skills.

Jackson, Myck and Wolters have passing ability and Knicks need that. Woodson has an offensive system where isolation is constant and Knicks can get beat by a team who moves the ball like Indiana or the Heat. Sometimes guys like Felton and Smith hold on to the ball too much and don’t know what to do with it because the Knicks primary offensive play is Iso-Melo.

Jackson concerns me because he has JJ Barea height, Myck concerns me because of his jumper and Wolters is impressive because he’s been question if his game can translate into the NBA. I would buy a second round pick and see ones of these guys can fall to the Knicks to compete for a back up PG spot.

    5. Chandler played pretty poorly defensively all season long after his DPOY season. His injuries have him off mentally and physically, he doesn’t play aggressive anymore, almost like Amar’e. These guys seem to have been saving themselves and avoid any further injury until next season.

Knicks need another defensive anchor inside besides Kenyon Martin who’s our only capable post defender. If Dieng falls to the Knicks, that would be huge, but I expect him gone at 20-21.
