A lot of people have the Knicks drafting Tony Mitchell at 24. He is a risk but he could be a great fit with the Knicks roster. He has good size for a SF and has a strong athletic build. He could play SF next to Melo at the 4 and take on the more difficult defensive matchup. That could also allow Shumpert to move back to the 2-guard spot. He also has the ability to knock down 3’s which is a must on the Knicks. I like how he would fit.

The Knicks desperately need PG help. They could possibly find one in this deep PG class. Some PG’s projected in the second round seem to have similar upside to projected lottery PG’s but with much less risk.

I really like Myck Kabongo and think he could be the steal of the draft but I am reluctant about how he would fit with the Knicks. He needs to be a floor general and facilitate to play to his strengths. That would be a problem next to Melo who likes to dominate the ball. His lack of a jump shot also makes him a poor fit.

Erick Green seems to be the better fit for NY at the point. He has good size and shooting ability. His scoring ability would also make him a good fit next to Raymond Felton if Woodson decides to continue with his 2PG lineup. Defenses wouldnt be able to leave him alone to double Melo or JR because he is such a prolific scorer. Green seems to be an excellent fit for the Knicks.

If the Knicks are high on this Matthews from D3 they should just bet on him not being drafted and see what he has in summer league. I wouldn’t waste a pick on him. He won’t crack the rotation and anything he could/would give the Knicks would be a bonus.

Assuming Woodson plays Mitchell and Green out of necessity(probably not), the Knicks rotation would look something like this:

C- Chandler/Camby
PF- Anthony/Stoudemire
SF- Mitchell/Novak
SG- Shumpert/Smith
PG- Felton/Green

With Kidd retired and Prigioni still a question mark the Knicks will probably have to go after a veteran PG with their mini-mid level exception. Devin Harris would be a great acquisition unless he command more than 3 million.

Some good wings that may have to accept the vet min to prove themselves are Wes Johnson and Xavier Henry. They have talent and still have potential so it is unknown what their price tags will be.

Re-signing Copeland and Kmart would be great but both may have priced themselves out if NY

That Melo at the 4 is great and all but kinda undersized and leves the paint open. Amare is easily the second most talented player on the team, and a Allstar when at his best. I still have them taking Larkin, although is stock is climbing. Still, I only see Milwaukee with PG need (with the 15th pick) or Utah (no. 21) depending what they do with no. 14. Larkin would provide a nice sparkplug of the bench for them.

The Knicks need to find a Forward that can compliment Carmelo Anthony. This is not an easy task and why I really like Carmelo his game makes it very difficult to not build a flawed team. Basically u need to find a player that defensively can handle Guarding 3’s on the perimeter or 4’s on the block. Can be a plus rebounder at either spot and be able to space the floor with 20 foot jump shots. Its hard to find guys that fit that profile exactly or even mostly for what the Knicks have to spend.

Other then a combo forward a quick PG that can defend quicker PG’s and break down off the dribble. A Back up Center as well

The one thing about Tony Mitchell is that he is a lottery talent. Late in the draft I think its smart to draft players with potential but have question marks. Mitchell can play 2 or 3 positions, he gave up last year so it is tough to know what he really can do but if the Knicks are going to beat the Heat they have to swing for the fences. Yes, their backcourt is the immediate need but this team is getting old and needs and influx of young talent.
I also like Kybongo for the knicks but not sure he is the best fit at PG with the rest of the team. If the team decides to draft a PG I think Larkin would be their best bet with his leadership skills and ability to get everyone involved.

2. Mitchell would be a solid pick, but I heard his motor isn’t always on. We have Kenyon Martin who really saved the Knicks and gave them a 2nd life, especially defensively after slumping and losing Wallace/Thomas/Camby for the season.

3. PG is the most important position. Felton is serviceable, but often doesn’t know when to score or pass and he’s average at both components of the game. Felton is going to be 30 and Prigioni is going to be 36. Knicks need a young athletic PG who can defend like Prigioni but offer more dynamic ability in scoring and passing, guys like Larkin and Schroeder should be targets but may be gone before pick 16. If I was the Knicks, I would trade up.

I would buy a second round pick and see ones of these guys can fall to the Knicks to compete for a back up PG spot.

Knicks need another defensive anchor inside besides Kenyon Martin who’s our only capable post defender. If Dieng falls to the Knicks, that would be huge, but I expect him gone at 20-21.
