HobbyOGParticipantThat’s a lot of coins for K.Love, 40 Milion a season??? That contract will be hard to trade in the future if they suck. Would you of gave K.Love this contract??

SeattleSuperChronicsParticipantThe Cavs are the new pistons/hornets in the east.

Dazzling Dunks and Basketball BloopersParticipantPretty surprising as most would have expected them to try to trade love or let him walk next season in free agency and rebuild. I guess this signals that they don’t want a full rebuild and still figure they can contend in the east around love. But that’s a lot of money to pay a guy with obvious defensive deficiencies and injury concerns well into his 30s. This seems like it could easily be a move they will regret. He will be almost impossible to trade now.

OhCanada-ParticipantTheres probably no value for him. Late 1st round pick and expiring contracts type thing.

CoachWyersParticipantI would have extended Love for like 2 years 48mil

HitsterParticipantK-Love has been playing 2nd foil to LBJ for the last 4 years so we don’t know what his all out production is currently like. It is nowhere near the max level he could get as a FA but it is a big commitment by the Cavs. Maybe they feel that having him tied down gives them a rebuilding point and it gives them protection from him leaving as an FA next summer.
It compares well to the deal that Blake Griffin took last summer for example, so it looks a good deal for both sides.
Does anyone know if there is a No trade clause at all?
K-Love has a title and if he is settled in Cleveland as a base then he is probably happy to commit to them.

jonus grumbyParticipant4 years for $120 is $30 million per year not 40.

HobbyOGParticipantYour right my bad, I’m still not paying his azz 30 mil for that length. He’ll be hard to trade.

whiteflashParticipantHis last four years in Minny he averaged over 13 rebounds and 24 points a game. That’s crazy. If he’s around that in the weaker East Cleveland may wind up in the playoff hunt, though obviously not title contention.

Reptilian MonkParticipantCavs paying for mediocrity for the next 4 years. Fighting for a playoff spot and 1st round exits for years to come

OhCanada-ParticipantCavs are back into Cleveland mode. Lebron’s gone. They gotta make Cleveland moves. Lets be honest without Lebron being there the odds of a player as good as Kevin Love ever signing there are very low. They could draft or develop a player to be that good but not sign.
If the signing works out then great, Cleveland stays competetive and remains a playoff team.
If the signing doesnt workout…well hey it’s gonna take them at least 4 years to rebuild and they wont be spending that money on anything special anyways so. Why not.

nick5354ParticipantI don’t really see the hate here in Cavs trying to contend for that 8th seed. They do have a soild chance if they can resign hood IMO. They have some nice role players, an exciting young rookie who is a competitor and a very productive all-star.
It is easy to say just blow it up, however, tanking is not always the solution. Philly is one Embid injury away from serious trouble.
I don’t think it is good for Cleveland to just ‘blow it up’. they just drafted a yong PG who is a compeitor. If they just trade away all there decent players for picks it might be a huge blow to him to see his teams not to want to play playoffs.
Cleveland are not a huge market and would find it hard to get a player of K Loves name as well – so it is a good thing that Love likes the team and is keen to stay long term.
Cavs have won it all and went to 3 straight finals, to just blow it up when you have a nice set of players that could maybe push for that 8th seed is silly.
They need to keep up the momentum of having so much success, it would be negetive to have a ‘we have no hope without Lebron attitude’.

Andv1 WaitingParticipantThe signing is a good move for both parts:
K-love gets paid whether he stays or is traded and rewarded for staying loyal to Cavs.
Cavs get some certainty to how they can at least initially situate their rebuild With Sexton and Love.
They can use him a trade chip if things are flaming out for either expiring deals or another player who has said they won’t resign with there team(See possible Jimmy B etc) or picks if they want to swing for the fences.
Will it be hard to move him possibly but his game should age alright as he doesn’t rely on atheltic abilities more so High I.Q plays so he at worst could get you a blake griffin to detroit like trade return.

HitsterParticipantThe Cavs have money committed for next two seasons but after that they didn’t have anything so even with K-Love’s renewal they will have options with what they do. They have a nice trading chip in George Hill’s virtually non-guaranteed team option for 2019-20 too, so still have room to make moves.
