That would be a great trade for the Kings I think. Once TMacs contract expires after this season, Sacramento will have a ton of money to spend in free agency.  Nocionni doesn’t need to be starting ever, getting rid of him in this deal would be a great bonus to the Kings too.  His contract is pretty bad.

ithink this may be a hint that the kings believe evans isnt a pg and is better as a sg which i agree..only porblem is his defense is pretty suspect which i thought would be better..then again most rookies arent great defenders. it will be a big problem at the sg then it wa at the pg position though

no he hasnt ..check out each game and the players hes checked on top of this comment from one of the coaches who write for hoopsworld.com
    Bill Ingram:
In talked to a couple of league execs about that situation, there is real doubt about Evans’ ability to play the 2 from a defensive standpoint. He can score, sure, but can he defend the plethora of All-Star twos in the NBA? I don’t think so .

players tend to get above there average when he checks them and they get past him on the regular cuz his lateral quickness on d isnt as effective as it is on offense

Tyreke Evans’ impact on the Kings’ offense has been noticeable lately, but he’s making just as big an impact on defense.

The rookie guard drew high praise from coachPaul Westphal for his defense seven games into his NBA career. Westphal already has no problem asking Evans to defend point guards, shooting guards or small forwards.

"Honestly, Tyreke’s one of the better defensive players in the league already," Westphal said. "He is very, very solid. He’s got great defensive fundamentals, and he can guard ones, twos and threes. He’s pretty much our best defender at any of those positions."

The coach’s compliment was significant to Evans, who said it wasn’t long ago that defense was considered a weakness in his game.

Evans said when he arrived at Memphis last year, coach John Calipari promised to change that reputation.

"Coach Cal got me and said, ‘I’m going to make you a good defensive player.’ " Evans said. "And I almost broke the record for steals there."

Evans set a Memphis freshman record with 77 steals.

Evans said desire and his 6-foot-6, 220-pound build help him as a defender.

"I just use my hands. I’ve got long arms. Every chance I get to get my hands on the ball, I do it."

not saying hes a bad defender but the guys he is checking are getting above there averages against him..and of course youre coach is gonna praise you…the most honest assesment you can get about a player is from someone not related or on the same team or that isnt his coach..wouldnt you agree

Last year it was rumored the Rockets offered Tmac for Martin straight up a few days before Mac was hurt. It was said Kings turned it down. Pretty sure at that time it was already determined the abdur-rahim contract had it’s previous year paid for by insurance and he was coaching so obviously he wasn’t being paid for 08-09. I know if anyone is watching Kings bball they are impressed with how smoothly things are going, thinking maybe Martin is expendable. There are a lot of teams that play better without their best player for a short period of time. I think other players are getting a shot because Martin should be touching the ball every play on that team. Without him I think there is an expectation of them not winning a game for 8 weeks so they came out pressure free and just played. You have to look at the teams they played too. GS is awful and the Jazz are mediocre at best.
Only reason to trade Martin is to get an expiring contract but WHO are they going to sign? They have enough free space to sign someone this offseason now, but Martin’s contract is lower than anyone else they could sign that would bring his productivity. There are a lot of big names and there are a lot of better than average players available this offseason. Everything will be completely different after this year. A lot of teams won’t resign their players hoping they can get in on the elite FA’s which will leave the Kings overpaying just to get someone to pay attention to them. The only good news is Petrie is pretty good at picking out talent. Coaches don’t always use it correctly but he knows talent.
Tehy’ll make a run at Bosh or maybe Amare but end up with travis outlaw, david lee, haslem type of players. You don’t trade Martin for cap space to sign those type of guys…

thats exactly the point i had made before faction..in the short term the kings look pretty good but once teams adjust they will go back to being at the bottom of the leauge

Kings should try and get a 1st rounder back but never no might take an expiring contract back.
BTW Kmartin doesn’t play much D either, once again Evans wasn’t the smart draft choice should’ve goine with a pg or traded down.

Where are all these numbers you are talking about?  I would like to see why you think Tyreke isn’t a good defender.

The main newspaper in Sacramento is saying that Tyreke is making a huge impact on defense.

The Kings’ coach Westphal is sayint that Tyreke is the best defender they have on the team.

    I mean C’mon man.

That would be a very good trade imo….Helps both teams. Gives both teams elite scorers, which they both need.

I also agree that Tyreke Evans is a very good defender, and is probably an above average NBA defender even right now at this stage of his career. Which is a very good thing.

Gatorheels: Nocioni is the best defender on the team. It isn’t even close.

Faction: “the Jazz are mediocre at best” I disagree. Please elaborate so I can embarrass you.

Everybody Else: Tyreke Evans is not a good defender, but he has made some good defensive plays and he gets some steals. To be fair, he has been guarding some tough players, (Tony Parker, Deron Williams, Chris Paul). He shut down Thabo Sefolosha today (That counts, right?). He also gets credit for being a good passer, but he isn’t. He has advanced ball-handling skills and that’s why he has PG potential, not because of his passing skills.

then they should pull the trigger on that trade… It’s a win-win situation on both teams… You can’t argue with that… K-Mart going to Houston would benefit well since they lack a go-to guy outside and can be a reliable scorer that can make them forget about T-Mac… Not to mention Andres Nocioni who can play well on Rick Adelman’s system… The way Houston is playing now, Noce can feel good especially when their offense is well-balanced…

The Kings on the other hand could use T-Mac for one year and test him out… He is still limping but who knows, he is a valuable player and a go-to guy if need be… Tyreke will be the focal point of the Kings now and should be in years to come… Not to mention, the expiring contract of T-Mac gives the Kings plenty of option come 2010… Wew!

and didnt iverson lead the leauge in steals before?..as wel all know just because you get steals doesnt make you a great or good defender..harden just got above his average on evans tonight also. and really..you quoting from what someone did in college?..what about g.vasquez getting over his scoring average against evans, mat lawrence, chris wright, johnny flynn doanta vaugn?..he wasnt a that good a defender in college either since we are bringing up college. dont good defender either make there men shot a bad percentage, get below there average or at least make it alot harder for the guy to get his points?.no let them get above there average

Where are the #’s?  Evans is usually guarding several different players per game.  You act like Evans was guarding Chris Paul or Tony Parker for a full 40 minutes.  The number of points they score isn’t a good indicator of what type of defense Evans was playing.  Numbers don’t lie but they are and will always be deceiving.

Q- you named five games from college.  Do you realize how many games they play in college.  Did you even watch these games? I doubt it. You named some of the better players Tyreke faced all year.  Also he didn’t guard those guys the whole game.  Some of those guys you mentioned he didn’t guard at all.  Funny did you even watch that Memphis vs. Missouri game?  Because I did..Tyreke was guarding Matt Lawrence on occasion but certainly not even close to the whole time.  Also that game was super high scoring.  A lot of players scored above their averages that game. A lot of time Memphis wasn’t even playing man to man defense.

Quincey you can keep reading your little reports from Hoopsworld if that is what you want to believe lol.  Personally I’m trusting the Coach, the games I have watched personally, & the Sacramento News.

Also did Tyreke guard Sefolosha or Harden tonight?  Because Quincey is saying Harden while buitidonthavemoney is saying Sefolosha.  Just curious.

i only named those 5 games because the other teams they played werent that good and the pg on there team werent anywhere near nba level like the guys i named….he guarded both..harden comes off the bench sefolosha starts…..and im not just going by the reports..those are just to prove my point..im going by the games im watching on leage past and watching how these guys score on evans..like i said before his defense is suspect..not horrible but suspect..you on the other hand said his defense is great which is far from the truth
