OldSkoolBasketballParticipantI was thinking if Nets can’t trade Lopez to Orlando for Howard then maybe send him and some other pieces salary wise for Smith. Then hope that would convince Howard of signing with the Nets. A core of Williams, Smith, and Howard looks pretty good.

OldSkoolBasketballParticipantIt would also help the Hawks. Have Lopez at center and move Horford to power forward where he wants to be at I believe. Thats a pretty good frontline with a backcourt of Joe Johnson and Teague.

boffacheeriosParticipantAnyone think the kings have a shot at him? I’m not too well informed on the situation, just wanted to get some insight maybe. Any ideas how sacramento could put something together to put him next to big cuz?

gopack10Participant@OldSkool – I’m a Hawks fan and I’d be down with a trade of Lopez and this year’s 1st rounder for Josh . I wouldn’t want to trade him for Lopez straight up since he is injury prone but if you throw in that lotto pick this year then I’d pull the trigger right now. I’ll even throw in both of our 2nd rounders this year.
Hawks get:
Lopez
Humphries (to make the salaries match)
Nets 2012 1st Round Pick
Nets get:
Smith
Both of the Hawks 2012 2nd Round Picks

gopack10ParticipantJosh Smith and Dwight Howard are very good friends and want to play together so it would be attractive to Dwight Howard this summer.

Tongue-Out-Like-23ParticipantDidn’t Josh Smith and Dwight Howard play on the same AAU team? Atlanta Celtics, I think. There was another NBA player on that AAU team as well, forgot who though.

Gob BluthParticipantRandolph Morris from Kentucky and then the Knicks and no clue now

FearTheStacheParticipantI know that Smith played with Rondo in high school. They both played in Oak Hill

rickybobbyParticipantI think this is a ploy by Josh Smith to some how team up with Dwight. Why else would he want a trade when he is playing excellent basically as the focal point as the team. If he goes to New Jersey its a done deal Dwight is going there too in the offseason.
0 - Posted on: Thu, 03/08/2012 - 12:28pm #645303

FearTheStacheParticipantI don’t know, for some reason, I just have a feeling of Rondo, Smith, and Howard in Boston. It all just makes too much sense.

Bmore_DCParticipantif they sent Brook to the Hawks…then who would the Nets trade for Howard? wouldnt the Magic want Brook?
I dont see anybody giving up 30 million dollars just to sign with a better team…thats too much money…
but yes, if they got Howard, Jsmooth, and Dwill…thatd prob be my favorite team to watch hahaha…
ps: how many blocks did that AAU team average? lmao
0 - Posted on: Thu, 03/08/2012 - 12:53pm #645306

FastAndFuriousParticipantYes Josh Smith and Dwight Howard are best friends and did play for the same AAU team the Atlanta Celtics and their other bestfriend played as well…..Randolph Morris, unfortunately his career didn’t turn out like theirs although many thought it would.

KHAM83ParticipantCould this not be any more obviouse? Smith and Howard has always wanted to play with each other. Smith is making his way to Jersey, where Howard will sign right afterwards. I live in Atl and its been hard to become a fan with all the foolish decisions Hawks management makes. They need to do the right thing and make a deal. Smith is balling, but he butt heads with coaches too much, he needs to go. If Atl can indeed get Brook Lopez plus this years lotto pick, they need to jump on it. Howard will either sign and trade his way to NJ, or sign out right. Even if he gives up a lot of money, the endorsements in NY will make up for it.
How about this deal?

Things to remember:
Nets lotto pick this year is included.
Marvin Williams also has demanded a trade, and will start alongside Smith in NJ. DWill will bring the best out of him.
Lakers want a PG- Hinrich is no Session, but at one year left, might as well try? He also backs up Kobe at the 2.
Dallas- Fed up with Lamar, would gladly ship him off.

OldSkoolBasketballParticipantLast year Smith had a list of teams he prefer to get traded to.

I don’t know if its the same this time around but it was Boston, Orlando, New Jersey, and Houston.

PulseGlazerParticipantI don’t see any way that the Nets get both Smith and Howard with their current assets. It’d be cool, but it doesn’t seem likely, particularly given how strongly the current labor agreement prohibits big 3s from having anything around them.
0 - Posted on: Thu, 03/08/2012 - 3:17pm #645349

What The DevilParticipant@PulseGlazer–I figure the Nets would do that move in the hopes the Howard signs with them in FA since Orlando said they are basically calling his bluff about leaving in FA
0 - Posted on: Thu, 03/08/2012 - 4:12pm #645369
KHAM83ParticipantThis is very possible. look at my trade from above. Remember Marvin Williams asked to be dealt too. NJ could easily trade for both Josh and Marvin. This off season, Deron opts out of his deal therefore giving NJ the space to sign Howard.they can then resign Deron.
Starting lineup of Williams-Stevenson-Williams-Smith-Howard with Brooks-Farmar-sign some bigs….they’ve got a team.0 - Posted on: Thu, 03/08/2012 - 5:08pm #645387

IvoLParticipantoops i forgot to put Randolph Morris
0 - Posted on: Thu, 03/08/2012 - 5:49pm #645409

jmarg25ParticipantMmm… just imagining that defense with Howard and Smith. I really hope the Nets can be contenders sometime in the near future.
0 - Posted on: Thu, 03/08/2012 - 6:48pm #645432

OldSkoolBasketballParticipantSmith does have a 15% trade kicker so that would a problem.
0 - Posted on: Fri, 03/09/2012 - 3:26am #645508
PulseGlazerParticipantSorry, I don’t buy any deal where Dwight leaves $30mil on the table.
0 - Posted on: Fri, 03/09/2012 - 4:03am #645510

HitsterParticipantNew Jersey could do a deal for Josh Smith quite easily by trading Okur and say the lottery pick they are due or Okur and Lopez for Smith and Marvin Williams. The key would then be to try and get D12 and if they took on Marvin’s salary then would they have cap space I wonder. If D12 was going to walk then Orlando would probably take an S and T with a future pick going their way as otherwise they get nothing and this way D12 gets his 5 year deal.
I wonder what deal Atlanta would consider better value for Josh Smith – Okur and Lopez or Okur and the lottery pick? If they get Lopez then him alongside Horford works but they could maybe get a shot at Davis or Drummond if they got the Nets’ draft pick.
A lot could depend when the deal happens as Okur expires this summer and would need to be dealt by deadline day but if the deals were still on the table come July then I suppose NJ could sign Okur to a none guaranteed deal to make the trade work and send some cash to Atlanta to buy Okur out. If Okur’s retirement rumours are true then he’d probably be happy to do a deal to help the trades and get a nice bonus payoff.

TyroberParticipant@PulseGlazer. Dwight isn’t leaving 30 million on the table. That 30 million you keep hearing about is from a 5 year deal compared to a 4 year deal. Unless some horrible injury happens to him then he will sign another contract after and would only be giving up a few million to play where he wants and in a bigger market he will make that up in no time and end up making more money.

SwatLakeCityParticipantHere’s how the trade could go down. I tried it on the trade machine but once I clicked on "Try this trade" nothing happened. No link came telling me whether or not the trade worked the same page that I was originally on appeared but this time with "Try this trade" link. So I don’t know if it actually works, but it might.
Orlando receives
- Marvin Williams
- Marshon Brooks
- Deshawn Stevenson
- Brook Lopez
- 2 future draft picks from New Jersey (one this year and one next year)
Atlanta receives
- Pau Gasol
- Mehmet Okur
- Jordan Farmar
- Devin Ebanks
- Trade Exception from Lamar Odom trade
- 2012 draft pick from Lakers
Nets receive
- Dwight Howard
- Josh Smith
Lakers receive
- Joe Johnson
- Kirk Hinrich
1 thing to remember is that the Magic have agreed that they are willing to receive young talented players in exchange for Dwight. (Just like the Nuggets did when they traded Melo to the Knicks) Thoughts?
0 - Posted on: Fri, 03/09/2012 - 6:35am #645529

TyroberParticipantSo ATL trades Johnson, Smith, and Hinrich and gets Pau Gasol and junk? Nope
