nick5354ParticipantJosh Childress has just lost his mind with a vicious hit against his opponent.
Rip255 pointed pointed it out to me and cannot understand what he was thinking
Childress who is playing in the NBL this season for the Perth Wildcats, same team as Ennis played for. He was unhappy about a few physical plays and non calls and just does nuts.
I don’t know, maybe he has been hanging around with Ron Artest?
Here is the vid anyway, not sure to put the vid in the post but where the link anyway

omphalosParticipantActually Childress was playing against the Wildcats for the Sydney Kings. The Wildcats have DeAndre Daniels.

nick5354ParticipantWhoops, my bad. I was thinking of Daniels as they were playing against Perth. I’ll blame the morning on this

Rip255It was actually quite a good matchup between DeAndre Daniels and Josh Childress up until that point. Childress was having a good all-around game, but his team-mates were absolutely terrible and he was forced to do too much. You could tell he wasn’t happy with the situation, even if he has been quite productive on his own.
The referees played a big part in the outcome of this game, giving Daniels 3 very soft fouls in the first half which forced him to sit most of the game, and then completely missing the hard moving pick on Childress which led to his frustration.
He also went on twitter after the game and accused the Perth Wildcats of running the league & controlling the referees (not as far off as you’d think btw…you just don’t say it). I’ve never seen 2 flopping technicals called in a game before, and they were both quite harsh in my opinion since there was a lot of contact (probably no-calls since they were off the ball).
For what it’s worth, the Australian league has a very lenient stance on star american players who do these type of things. To put it in perspective, last season an American player blatantly kneeing an opponent in the junk (groin) and only got a 1-match suspension. I doubt Childress will get much more than that.

nick5354ParticipantBut if Perth is favoured why would the refs call 3 soft fouls on Daniels That would go against the idea the refs controlling the game?
And losses by 20+ you cannot really blame refs, maybe if it was a 2-3 possession game and calls don’t go your way, but 20+ losses a lot more has gone wrong then just the refs.
And for Childress to make such a ridiculous accusation after only a couple games is just ludicrous. Hope he gets more then 1 match. Was downright vicious

Rip255The Australian league is broke, and the Wildcats are the only team saving it from extinction. Players like Childress generate revenue, and the league needs him playing.
The urgency of making money in the short-term far outweighs any need for a fair justice system when it comes to suspensions.
As for last nights game, the refs weren’t corrupt to Tim Donaghy levels, but the calls often seem to go the Wildcats way. It also helps that they are somehow able to always attract the best talent in the league despite a really low salary cap. Once again, NBL has no money to police this type of thing.
Last season the Wildcats played 4 or 5 home "finals" games that bring in 12,000 fans each. The whole league needs the revenue generated by these finals. Sounds like chump-change to Americans, but this is a league that has been on it’s knees for nearly 2 decades.

nick5354ParticipantThe screen on Childress was an illegal one if I have ever seen one. He was moving, stepped into it and extended some extra force with his body/arms, so I am not surprised he was bloodied. But even if he was caught on the bad end of a terrible no call, that does not mean it gives him the right to intentionally attack another player on the court and deliver a freakin’ flying forearm/elbow.

TallmanNYCParticipantLooks like Childress takes a shoulder to the face on the first screen. He is barely moving when he turns around and gets caught by that screen and it is enough to send him flying. Getting the shoulder into Childress’s face is kind of a subtle move and is mainly just due to the screener being taller than Childress. But it is definitely a blow.
If the guy had been physical all game, this might have been the result of the cummulation. Definitely Childress should be ejected and suspended. But sometimes you have to send a messege to opponents and the league. Especially if you are star and bench guys who don’t care if they accumulate fouls are taking liberties.
I don’t know if the screener is dazed in that situation or what, but he basically has no reaction to being decked. That was kind of weird. He just sort of slowly gets up and shuffles off. Maybe he was concussed. Or maybe he was thinking, "yep, I kind of deserved that." He certainly doesn’t seem to direct any anger to Childress.
