I have him going #9 to the Bobcats, who need a center. Sound more accurate?

Yeah im sure he won’t slide too much because he is one of the only good players in a weak draft. Even though he won’t play next season.

I still think Cavs could take him 4 if it’s just a one year wait, especially because of the likely lockout.

I don’t think their will be a lockout that affects the regular season but thats mostly because i am hoping that it won’t happen.

I may be alone on this, but I’m going to guess that there WILL be a lockout but it won’t affect us from having a normal NBA season. Maybe somewhere around a couple of months.. Maybe I’m sounding a bit too optimistic, but I can see that happening

I think he could fall a bit.  The teams at the top need something they can sell to their fans.  What is he at now? 5 or 6?  Could fall to around 10-12.  If the Jazz take a point guard at 3 then they would snap him up at 12.

Valanciunas would be a net negative on an NBA roster next year anyway. The team who drafts him is better off with him in Lithuania than making lottery money while being unable to help the club. If a team thought enough of him before this news to consider him in the lottery (something I just can’t rationalize), this report should not change that.

If he’s number 4 on their board, the Cavs should certainly take Jonas.  They aren’t competing next year – let him develop on someone else’s dime, get a top pick again next year, and have Kyrie, Varajeo and JJ waiting with another year of development.  They can see if they can make Eyenga a real defensive stopper, then come back with Kyrie, a question mark, Barnes, Val and Hickson with Varajeo as first off the bench and use trade exception/cap space to fill the hole at 2.

Pulse please correct me if im wrong but i thought all 1st rounders had to get their contract. Meaning they get paid enough if they are playing over seas.  Right?  Rubio got paid?  If not then why was there a big fuss over taking Euro’s in the 2nd round and not the 1st so they can develop?

My in put there is no way Jonas slips past Detroit.  They would glady tank a season so they can have a high draft pick again then have 2 great rookies come in for 2012 13 season

No, they don’t get paid until they sign a contract and come over, Tim.

Cavs want immediate results for their fans, thats all we will see in this draft. They will pick Kanter. Raps will likely pick Vesely or Leonard, and I have no clue which route they will go.

What the heck like 2 -3 years ago i remember the people saying dont waste a 1st round pick on him if he isnt coming over.  The reasoning behind it was they would have the rights but dont have to sign them.  If it is the same with the 1st rounders seems kind of stupid what they were saying now.

I don’t see it as a problem. Big men do not contribute meaningful minutes until they are 22 anyways, usually because of their light frame.

Players who stay in Europe do not get paid until they come over. That’s why teams with late first rounders often draft euros and letthem
Stay overseas since they don’t have to pay while they develop.

As for Jonas, or any rookie for that matter, I think if you like them you don’t let one year sway you away.

Why wouldn’t the Cavs take him at 4? This would be the perfect year to do it: the fans will be satisfied by the introduction of Irving as the #1, and won’t feel as impatient about waiting a year for the other shoe to drop.

I don’t see what the big deal is.  In some cases eg. cleveland are not going to make the playoffs soon so they can still get a nice draft pick next season also.  Same with many young teams, they don’t need him straight away so what is the rush
