shermParticipantJonas Valaciunas today posted 23 points, 11 rebounds and 1 block in just over 25 minutes of play today against the USA men’s U19 team.
For the Raptors, this looks like a solid draft choice if he keeps on playing like this.
Hopefully, the Raptors decide to trade Bargnani this offseason for some valuable assets, so when Valanciunas comes over to Toronto he will be playing alongside Ed Davis0 - Posted on: Tue, 06/28/2011 - 10:21am #558269
boshjonesfordParticipantand that one block was pretty nice…i like his size and from watching the game he really cares about getting the rebounds enjoys rough play which is going to be a nice compliment to Barganani
Apperently the spurs wore targeting him with the top 5 pick (via parker trade) … to sucsess Tim Duncan next year.
great work ethic apprently takes 200 free throws after every practice (shoot 80+ from the free thorw line)
The only knock on him is that he is not physically ready as he only waighs 230 pounds but on the + side he is only 19 and lists dwight howard as his favorite player because of his power/strenth which shows you that he values strenth
During the U18 he avraged
PPG – 19.0 RPG – 10.6
Kanter also played amazing
PPG – 18.6 RPG – 16.4

PaulsJayhawksParticipantI’ll admit I wanted Knight first but JV was my second choice. Ballzy move on BC’s part to take a guy who can’t play a year when he’s on a 2 year contract. However if there is a lockout it looks like a great move as JV continues to play in Europe and develop when other rookies are hanging out in gyms not getting any game experience. I love the fact he mixes it up under the hoop, just get some protien shakes into him and T.O is gonna love the pick I think.

torontoraptors10ParticipantI’m loving this pick! While everyone was down on Jonas Valanciunas, I thought it was a good pick up for the Raptors

paradigmnParticipantJonas looked good. I like his aggressive nature. My post is for PATRIC YOUNG however. What the hell is the deal with this dude. I see him rated pretty high up in allot of draft boards going back to even early last year. Dude def has a great basketball body at 6’9” 245. He is only 19 years old which is a plus. But he simply CAN’T PLAY basketball. It’s painful to watch him run around the court like a chicken with his head cut off. I’ll be interested to see how he does at Flordia for his Sophomore year. I can’t see it being any worse than his Freshman year where he averaged 3.4 points 3.8 rebounds and 2 fouls a game.

Scottoant93ParticipantI think he complements bargs well too, plus casey’s defensive coaching raps are turning the corner towards being revelant within the next few years. I also like when he was picked, the fans we’re chanting BUST, hopefully he proves them wrong. Bets of luck jonas

RafterParticipantJonas should dominate at the youth level, but to blow the USA team out was unexpected.
I really wanted the Cavs to land him, but i’m still happy with Thompson. Eventhough the Cavs would have to wait for a season, the Cavs aren’t suddenly going to turn into a winner so it made sense. But the Raptors have a steal, if he can add 20 lbs of good weight, he could be a formidable player, i see him having a similar physique to Pau Gasol when he hits his prime.
It’s even better that he can stay in Europe to develop, i’m not saying he isn’t NBA ready now, but he’ll be even more NBA ready then he was before, his body will start to mature and he’ll have a bigger role to play on his Euro team and mentally, he’ll be more ready. You can’t underestimate the mental difference a year will make to an 18 year old. Because of this i think it reduces the risk of him being a bust in my opinion. Definitely worth the wait.

VarnishkisParticipantValanciunas is a new star in Lithuania, I hope he will get selected for Lithuania Mens National Team, where he would play against Turkey with Enes Kanter… Both probably would be role players in those teams, but still… Plus group games against Spain with both brothers would be even more interesting to see how Jonas would play against NBA well established players.

joecheck88ParticipantHe seems like he will be able to put on weight. i think according to measurements that chad ford tweeted is that he is 7 feet, with long arms and a 9’4" standing reach and weighs 245. He is a big dude and with his skill he just needs to play hard and will be a top 5 center in the league. I think he will play like a mix of the Gasol brothers. he will bang more than Pau but not as much as Marc and he is more skilled than marc but not as much as Pau. He should have a very successful career.
