New Orleans made its second quality addition to its training camp roster late Monday, a source has told FanHouse, agreeing to terms on a partially guaranteed contract with third-year forward Joe Alexander.

Alexander was taken eighth overall by Milwaukee in the 2008 draft, when he was billed as the athletic cream of that particular crop. That being the case, the former West Virginia star still struggled mightily in two seasons before he was traded to Chicago in February in the deal that netted the Bucks John Salmons.

Alexander appeared in 59 games as a rookie, averaging 4.7 points and 1.9 rebounds in 12.1 minutes a game. Before the start of his second season, the Bucks declined the third-year option on his deal for 2010-11. The decision proved prescient, as Alexander was limited to just eight games in his second season, all coming in March after he was dealt, during which he scored a combined four points in 29 minutes spread over eight games.

In a six-game stint with the Fort Wayne Mad Ants of the NBA D-League in late January and February, Alexander averaged 10.5 points and 4.7 rebounds in 26.8 minutes.

The Hornets also added former D-League All-Star and NBA vagabond forward Pops Mensah-Bonsu to their camp roster earlier in the day.

You know what puzzles me? Why can’t Pops stay on any NBA team? Watching him with the Raptors he brings energy, he hustles and plays hard on every play. I can see him being a good fit on the Nets, I mean they have Kris Humphries and I think Pops is better option. He would even look for the Thunder.

I like this signing; if Alexander develops he can push Ariza to earn his starting spot. High reward, low-risk signing by the Hornets, I hope CP3 sticks around, always been partial to the Hornets and don’t want to see them lose their franchise player.

I like Anthony Roberson. He is a fearless scorer with deep shooting range. He’s just so small and not at all a PG, and his D sucks. If he can play in a system though, the triangle would be best. His shooting and lack of PG skills would fit good at the PG spot in very limited time off the bench. Still, he’s a long shot.

Joe Alexander isn’t a quality signing. He doesn’t know how to play basketball. He’s just athletic.

I think the reasons Pops Mensu-Bonsah hasn’t found a nich in the NBA is because I view him as a 6’9” 235 lb center. He doesn’t have the ideal size for what his game is like. He does hustle and is good enough to play lmited roles in the NBA, but I feel for him to be more effective at an NBA level, he needs a better mid range jumper and improved handles.
