Sorry I missed posting this yesterday, its FINALS WEEK down here at school!

    54: Dee Bost, 6’2 170, PG/SG, Mississippi State, Sr.

An interesting prospect with a lot of natural talent, Bost was a 4 year starter and impact player immediately at MSU. He dealt with a lot over his 4 years in Starksville, from academic ineligibility, to underachievement, to famously declaring for the draft and trying to get back in school after missing the declaring deadline less than 2 years back. He’s still got intriguing qualities and that is what making him a prospect. Physically, Bost is just decent. Bost’s height is OK at 6’2, but he’s pretty thin and not very strong. Does appear to have adequate length. Athletically, Bost is pretty good. He’s very quick, has nice speed, agility, and leaping skills, and possesses more than decent explosiveness.

Offensively, Bost is a mixed bag, but not one lacking in natural talent. Has proven to be a tough matchup, because he’s both quick and a jump shooting threat. Really likes having the ball in his hands. Has a naturally nice jump shot. Can hit shots from 25 ft. out. Likes to shoot the 3 ball. Is effective with his feet set and off the bounce. Does not have very good shot selection. Takes about 4 or 5 bad shots every game, be it early in the shot clock or against heavy contests from defenders. Not known for being very efficient, shot above 40% just 1 season in his career. Rushes far too many shots, and will try and chuck himself out of shooting slumps. A lot of upside as a slasher. Actually wasn’t too bad a finisher around the rim, and has the ability to where he wants on the floor a lot, but he will need more strength for that to translate. Can play above the rim when he gets a head of steam. Great 1st step, and he’s a shifty slasher with a nice handle. Good crossover. Changes directions well at top speed. Will settle for jumpers off the dribble more than he should. A bit too turnover prone and wild most times. Doesn’t value possessions the way a floor general should. Not the greatest decision maker, averaged 3 turnovers a game every year after his Fr. season. Overdribbles a lot, and will too often takes shots too early in the shot clock, without any sets being ran, or without passing the ball. Is a threat in the pick and roll, due to his burst turning the corner, and also because he will pull up and shoot or look to dish the ball off. Has nice natural floor vision, and will be a drive and dish threat. Sometimes makes defenders pay for diving screens, but not consistently. Definitely can play in transition. Decent getting to the foul line, but just an average FT shooter. Looks to score 1st, but can definitely get the ball to scorers too. Lags behind in maturity and leadership skills that you’d like to see in PG’s. Plays with reckless aggression, gift and curse. Pretty flashy. Can play off the ball in a small lineup.

Defensively, Bost is not very good. He has the hand speed, length, and aggressiveness to get you steals, but he gambles too much. Reaches a lot on the perimeter. Often gets out of his stance too early and is shaky denying penetration for someone with his lateral quickness. Can be lazy closing out at times. Not likely to get through screens quickly, due to a lack of upper body strength. Generally a decent on-ball defender, especially when matched up against average athleticism, but he struggles with the other fundamentals off the ball.

Overall, Bost has the talent of a 1st round pick. His IQ and inefficient, turnover ridden play hurt him though. His athleticism, natural talent, flashiness, and ability to be a slashing guard with a nice jumper are good, but he doesn’t seem to value possessions as a PG should. He also doesn’t show very good fundamentals or leadership skills. Bost reminds me of a poor mans Brandon Jennings, always has, but he wont last in the NBA unless he gets more polished as a PG or finds a coach that just falls for his talent and lets him work through his weaknesses.

53: JaMychal Green, 6’9 220, PF, Alabama, Sr.

Another 4-year starter, who had a very solid career at Alabama in the frontcourt, former McDonalds All-American JaMychal Green is #53. Developed nicely from a skinny mismatch PF to a guy who bulked up a bit and still kept most of the athleticism he had early in his career. He also is coming off a strong showing the Portsmouth Invitational, including a game where he dropped 29 pts in 29 minutes of play. Was suspended 3 different times at UA, including 4 games this past season for detrimental conduct, so teams will investigate that. Physically, Green has only average height for a PF at 6’9 and he also needs to continue to bulk up a bit, as he only weights around 220. He does have great length, with a 7’2 wingspan, and he uses that effectively. Athletically, Green is very nice. He shows very good explosiveness for his size, being a quick leaper. Runs the floor well. He’s also got solid quickness and decent agility, and his body control is impressive.

Offensively, Green has made nice strides. He’s not an ultra skilled PF, but he does play to his strengths and uses his length well. Most effective within about 10 ft. of the basket. Has a go-to move with his right handed jump hook in his arsenal as well as a good dropstep. Not a big factor with his left, but adequate. Should look to get more moves in terms of turnarounds, as he struggles when his hook gets contested. Doesn’t show a great ability to make counter moves when his favorite shots get defended well, and he is a bit predictable down low a lot. Shows a pretty soft touch around the hoop. Flashes pretty good explosiveness at times when finishing around the rim, particularly when he can gather and get footing, but will try and get cute too at times and get his shots blocked or have them altered. Has good, big, soft hands and rarely bobbles quick post feeds. Likes to use his quickness to his advantage, as he is generally either quicker or stronger than his matchups, but can struggle against other PF’s who are strong and have solid quickness. Can be pushed out of the post when he tries to seal against strong defenders, due to a thin, below average lower body. Not afraid of the physical contact down low, and will fight for position. Not going to be a top option scorer, and doesn’t need a bunch of plays drawn for him to be effective. A decent mid-range shooter and pick and pop option from 15-17 ft. Pretty inconsistent with it though, especially against hard closeouts. Only fair as a ball-handler, and isn’t gonna be a big threat taking guys off the bounce just yet. Got to the foul line at a solid clip in college, and was about an average 70% shooter when there. Is OK in transition, but nothing noteworthy. A decent passer for a PF. Pretty good offensive rebounder.

Defensively, Green is steady but not amazing. Is a good shot-blocker and shows nice timing around the rim. Can be backed down against stronger bigs due to below average lower body strength. Fouls a bit more than you’d like, and can be late rotating over for weakside help. Mediocre rebounder defensively. Average instincts.

Green has a lot of the traits you look for in a role-playing PF, including solid touch, nice experience, and the ability to be a pick and roll player. He does need more strength, and he will need to improve a bit more defensively and on the glass, but I think he’s a solid prospect and player. He’s not more than a 4th or 5th option when he’s on the floor, but he provides some strengths that could work in his favor with his athleticism and improving polish. He got better every year when he was in college and was really consistent this past year. I think a team looking for a young PF with an Ed Davis-style of game should give Green a look. They will have to figure out why he got suspended as much as he did in college though.

I’ve been a fan of Green for awhile, excellent breakdown of his game.

JaMychal green is one of my 2nd round sleepers who I can see being reached for in the late first. Slightly undersized, but with long arms. Is well-schooled defensively, will bang on the interior, has some post moves and can step out to mid-range.

Nice to see someone Finally show Dee Bost some respect..He’s 1 of this draft’s biggest sleepers and might be a better pro then college player..Alot of scouts are high on him,but arent willing to go all out and say what type of role he’ll have in the league…Bost & Machado might be better pros than Marshall & Teague….
