     16: Terrence Ross, 6’7 197, SG/SF, Washington, Soph.

A guy who came to college and was a good scorer in the Pac-12, we have Terrence Ross…He had a big season as a Soph. for an underachieving UW team that had 10 talent but was an NIT team…Ross really had great per minute scoring numbers as a Fr., but Washington had a lot of depth in the backcourt, which limited his minutes and had him on a fairly short leash…1st Team All-Pac 12 as a Soph…Physically, Ross stands tall for a true SG at 6’7, enough size to play both wing spots…Only has a 6’7 wingspan, which was a surprise to me looking at how long his frame seems to be…Ross is also very thin and not very strong, weighing 197 and only putting up 185 twice on the bench press at the combine…To his credit he has put on probably 15 lbs since he was a HS Sr…Athletically, Ross is great though…Has a 37 in. vertical, and shows very good explosiveness and quickness on the court as well

On offense, Ross is a pretty explosive scorer with the ability to catch fire for stretches…Ross makes most of his hey as a scorer by using his jumper…Has textbook form and shows really nice touch…Holds form even against contests, and has a ton of confidence in his shots…Has the ability to make tough shots that good scorers tend to have…Most of his shots look good when they leave his hands…Shoots extremely well with his feet set, but also can use quick moves with the ball (usually 1 or 2 dribbles) to get shots off the bounce where he also is pretty effective…Not bad off screens, but is most effective with screens right around the free throw line, where he doesn’t have to utilize as much lower body strength to keep him squared to the rim when he elevates…Shows great ability to read the defense in screening action and can get defenders tied up in picks well depending to if they dive or go over the top of his screens…Has NBA range…Don’t let him make his 1st shot…Gets on hot streaks and seemingly doesn’t cool down for a while sometimes…As a slasher, Ross has good and bad…He’s very fast and owns a quick 1st step, so often that’s enough to get him a clean blow-by every now and then…Will get you an explosive finish at the rim at times, as he has highlight reel athleticism on the move…Doesn’t get to the rim as much as he should though…His ball-handling skills need work…Not going to break down many defenses when going east-west with the ball…Does have a nice spin move he uses, but doesn’t show much besides that…Looks less and less comfortable the more times he dribbles the ball…Likes to operate on the right side of the floor…Doesn’t handle right defensive pressure very well when handling the ball…Settles for jumpers a bit too often, and needs some improvement with his shot selection…Sometimes gives you a well-timed cut to the rim offensively and seems to be a potential threat on backdoor alley-oops, as we’ve seen him get some nice finishes that way…Doesn’t pass the ball much, and had a 1.4/2 A/TO, which is below average as a perimeter player…Big-time transition player, who shows his electric athleticism the most in the open floor…Gets off the ground very quickly…Will give you a flashy dunk or lay-in in the open floor…Doesn’t get to the foul line much, showing his lack of confidence as a ball-handler…Good looking offensive rebounder for a wing…He can score with some of the best in this draft class, but he a lot to learn as an overall player…Doesn’t project to offer all that much to a team when he isn’t making his shots/scoring…Has an instant offense/microwave scorer type feel to his game

Defensively, Ross shows some real promising signs but also some bad too…He defends on the ball like a monster when he’s locked in, moving his feet very quickly, getting right in his man’s shirt, and even is a very nice shot-blocker for a SG (barely under 1 a night)…Has good ability jumping into the passing lanes, and will get you some steals…Improved his defense a lot since his Fr. season, plays with much more urgency on this end now…He still tends to get too aggressive or fall asleep at times though…He should be able to hold his own on this end in the NBA, but it will be interesting to see if he does or not…Rebounds well from the guard spot

Overall, Ross’ knack for putting the ball in the net will be the thing scouts rave about…He is an explosive scorer who can get puts in bunches with his basic shot-creating skills and jump shooting ability…He’s also got nice size and athleticism to fall on as well…It will be interesting to see how well he defends, as that will probably be the way he gets the most minutes on the floor as possible for a team…He improved on D last year though, so there is promise…But Ross gives me the feel of the type of player who could be less effective the less he scores…He has to defend consistently to reach his potential I believe

    15: Tony Wroten Jr., 6’6 203, PG/SG, Washington, Fr.

Fan favorite, touted since he was a HS Fr., grew up playing with the biggest NBA players Seattle had to offer, we have Tony Wroten here at 15…Was an immediate impact player for Washington this past season, and shows all of the same intriguing qualities and glaring weaknesses he always has…A southpaw…Still, had a pretty productive season for the most part as a Fr…1st Team All-Pac 12, 1st Team Freshman All-American last season…Physically, Wroten is outstanding for a combo guard…He stands 6’6 with a wiry strong 203 lb frame that should get stronger and bigger in time…Wroten also has a decent 6’9 wingspan that allows him to play a little bigger than he is as well…Athletically, Wroten is also very good too…He is quick, fast, agile and shows good explosiveness as well

On offense, Wroten is a flashy player who plays a style that jumps out of the TV screen at you…He is at his best when handling the ball and making things happen on the move…Really is a good looking slasher, and is a threat to make a strong drive to the rim or make a flamboyant feed to teammates…Aggressive player…Shows no problems getting into the paint with his strength and quickness, but he absolutely is a bulldozer when matched up with PG’s…Very good ball-handling skills…Really can change directions with the ball well, and has a nice number of hesitation and stop-go moves in his arsenal…Tough to defend in isolation style plays…Will have little trouble making things happen off the bounce in the NBA, even though he is a bit dependent on his left hand to make plays…He needs to get his right hand better, as his lack of a right and his lack of jump shooting will make him an easier player to scout, at least early on…Speaking of his jumper, its bad…Wroten has very little range on his shot…Shot looks flat, and he lacks confidence in it…Was a 16% 3-point shooter as a Fr., and teams will probably give him the Rondo treatment until he at least proves he can sometimes make jumpers…Doesn’t even show the ability to be a very good 15-18 ft. shooter off the dribble, and rarely has a consistent form…As a passer, Wroten is both spectacular and erratic…Probably the best “highlight reel” passer in the draft…Impeccable floor vision, and has the ability to see things before they happen on the court…Has some slick no-look and bullet passes that he uses alot…He is a flashy passer who can make the big play that fans like to see, but he doesn’t have the basketball IQ to be more than a quick fix at the PG spot for spurts….Often forces passes right into the teeth of the defense, making him real turnover prone…Had a terrible A/TO (3.8/3.9) for a guard who is supposed to be a combo guard prospect, especially one that teams see as more of a PG than anything else…He can pass and see the floor like a PG, but he does not run a team and make simple plays like a PG is supposed to…A bit ball-dominant and selfish…A victim of his own imagination at times, and doesn’t take into account that maybe some of his teammates can catch some of his passes when he hasn’t looked at them…Plays best in a fast-paced, up-tempo game…Does run the pick and roll very nicely though, showing the same flair for his passes that he always does or just splitting defenders to take it strong to the rim…Will lose the ball at times or throw the ball away when he plays in the pick and roll though…His speed and quickness are really something to behold when he has the ball in the open, and he can weave in between defenders and deliver some really crazy passes to teammates or finish at the hoop…Got to the foul line like a madman last season, but was a terrible 58% when there…Great offensive rebounder for a guard…Has a lot to learn about playing team/winning basketball, and ironing the major flaws he has in his game

Defensively, Wroten is wishy washy…His wingspan and strength allow him to defend both guard spot equally effectively, but his lagging awareness both show up no matter what spot he guards..Sometimes gets too lazy to stay in position when off the ball, and will give up backdoors a bit too often against high IQ players…He defends on the ball well for the most part, but he often gets too aggressive going for steals, which can lead to blow-by’s…He’s an extremely good ball-thief though, almost getting 2 a night in the Pac-12 with his size and athleticism…

Overall, Wroten is mostly a lot of style and not quite as much substance…He really gets to the rim well, and he’s a big guard who can play at either backcourt spot…His jumper, IQ, fundamentals, and ball-dominance all need improvement, especially if he wants to be a PG at the next level…He was productive in college in a lot of areas, but he also had some painfully weak spots and a team will have to work on that with him…Still, if he’s willing to work Wroten is one of the best pure talents in the draft with the ability to be a really unique threat for his team…It will be interesting to see where he lands though, some talk he might slide to the 2nd round

both have a lot of potential. But ross is a pretty safe pick becasue at worst you have a 6-7 wing who can hit shots and is a good athlete who can run and fill the break. He did average 25 a game for UW during the nit leading them to the semi finals probably showing his best ball of the season when it mattered most.

Wroten on the other hand has potential to be a huge bust if he doesnt get his jumper in order. Things like IQ and defense should come around for him. He was a freshman and he does things on the court that are very instinctual that you cant teach. But at the end of the day, a gaurd with no jump shot is gonna have a tough time getting on the court long enough to work out those kinks in his overall game.  The biggest thing he has going for him, is that he gets into the paint and by his man so effortlessly. I never saw any team, either in conference or out of conference that flat out locked him up. His poor performances were his own doing for the most part. But for him to get to the next level and be an nba starter, he has to embrace being a pg and stop jacking up shots.

Wroten 6-7 spots above Lillard is just absurd…
