JNixonParticipant54: Andrew Goudelock, 6’2 200, PG/SG, College of Charleston, Sr.
A guy I watched when he went to HS in Stone Mountain, GA and this past season as a GA Southern basketball manager, Goudelock has come a long way from a good HS player and low major recruit to a NBA prospect. Goudelock is average physical, being about 6’2 200 with an average frame, length and strength. Athletically he’s below average with mediocre quickness and explosiveness and overall leaping ability.
On offense, Goudelock is a good shooter with solid traits. He’s got a very quick release, compact form, and he has the uncanny knack of setting his feet beautifully when rising for his shot. Doesn’t let closeouts change his shot much. He’s outstanding shooting off the dribble, and shows an efficient mid-range game to compensate for inability to consistently make it to the rim. Simply above average shot-making ability. Not enough quickness or speed to get all the way to the rim, even against SoCon competition. It’s imperative for him to set up his 1st step with a crossover or a jabs, even a series of them at times, so that he can get the driving lanes necessary to put up good shots. Has a tough time with length at times, and shows iffy shot selection at times. He’s not a pure PG by any stretch, but he does show the ability to at least be serviceable. Makes crisp passes and isn’t rattled by tight pressure very much. Steady ball-handler, but not special. Didn’t play PG exclusively over his career, but isn’t an overly selfish player. Not overly TO prone, especially for as much as he saw the ball over the last 3 years.
On D, Goudelock is simply OK. He didn’t really exert a lot of energy here in college and really just played his matchup. Not a risk taker. In Portsmouth there was discussion about his shaky effort, and he simply can’t afford that if he’s to be a draft pick and eventually stick to a team, given that he already doesn’t very good tools to begin with on this end. Won’t be able to stop many NBA level guards, especially with less than maximum effort.
Goudelock has a strong jump shot and really has showed some good shot-making skills. He’s not physically gifted, very athletic, or a standout on D, but he has a good jumper. He’s offensive-minded, but he’s not good enough to dominate the ball in the NBA like he did in college. He can’t get to the rim and struggles driving the ball a little too much for that. He has a chance to get drafted, but he’ll need to have a coach fall in love with him and a strong offseason for that dream to work.
53: DeAndre Liggins, 6’6 210, SG/SF/PG, Kentucky, Jr.
Liggins was known by some fans as the guy who Derrick Rose slowed down on a fast break to dunk on when he was in HS. He started out slow under Billy Gillespie as he was a guy with good size and raw physical tools. Was recruited out of Chicago as a big PG. Physically, Liggins has great size for the SG position he’ll play most. He’s got a 6’11 wingspan and a lean body with wiry strength. His length will allow him to defend SF’s too at the NBA level. Athletically, he’s also strong. He’s not a freak of nature, but he’s not slouch and shows good speed, quickness and leaping ability.
On offense, Liggins is a limited player. He’s improved his jump shot a good bit since entering college, and that speaks to just how bad a shooter he used to be because he’s currently a below average shooter. Currently, he can spot up shoot just well enough from about 20 feet that you should at least half-heartedly close out. Has had to change his form over time, as he used to shoot with his elbow out. Can make shots off one dribble but not much more, you don’t want him doing more than that anyway. He’s an alright slasher with solid handle, but he really doesn’t look to drive all that much, due to his role. Has history as a PG in HS and as a Fr., so he shows some good passing skills from the wing. Used to be a flashy guy who could make a sweet pass and then follow it with a turnover, but with the guards UK’s had over the past 2 or 3 years he’s had no such chance. Not going to score many points for you, and he will never be more than a 5th option if he ever plays in the NBA. He is unselfish though and seems to understand that. Can play some PG if need be.
The most value Liggins has as a prospect is definitely defense. He was often the most valuable player for Kentucky down the stretch of the season and in some conference games too because of his stellar defensive play. Physical and tough no matter what position he guards, which is good but also can be a hindrance since he’s a little bit foul prone at times because of it. Has the length and size to defend PG-SF at any level with effectiveness. Good lateral quickness and smooth strides. Not that disciplined yet, but has improved over time. Has the potential to be a lockdown-type with added attention to detail.
You know what you get with Liggins. His value is on D and as a Swiss army knife player who can play and defend 3 positions on the floor. He’s not a scorer AT ALL and he’s not a shooter yet, but he’s improved and he’s shown development over the past 2 years in all aspects of his game. He reminds me of Thabo Sefolosha in a lot of ways, and if a team wants to groom a potential lockdown guy then Liggins would be a solid get.

YSUFan10Participanti agree with everything you said there, but now that you are at the 53&54th best prospects, i wonder if you will be including a guy like Gary Flowers or Delroy James, i do believe they are both top 60 prospects.

You got that right man! He will be forever be remembered for that dunk. I’m looking forward to see that highlight when Rose is enshrined in the HOF or when they decide to go back to the Where Amazing Happens commercials to show Rose’s evolution from the HS ranks.
Now I like Liggins length as a player who will be one to harass on the defensive end if he gets the opportunity to play.

kobyzParticipantAndrew Goudelock’s performance at the 3 point contest this year was the best performance i’ve ever watch, he was amazing, fantastic shooting display, i think he could be compared to Steve Kerr as NBA player.
DeAndre Liggins is a Keith Bogans clone!
