Oodles of NBA free agents remain available. Largely fringe roster types, backbenchers and so on. Included on that list, Jan Vesely. Actually the ex-Wizard might have found himself a team, but not stateside.

According to reports, the 6-foot-11 forward from the Czech Republic has agreed to terms with Fenerbache Ulker from the Turkish Basketball League. With the help of Google Translate, the report indicates Vesely is expected to arrive in Istanbul next week to finalize a deal.

Fenerache is consistently one of he elite teams in Europe. Bogdan Bogdanovic, drafted in the 2014 first round by the Phoenix Suns, will play for Fenerache next season.

Fair to say Vesely’s three-year NBA stint was largely a disappointment ever since the WIzards selected him sixth overall in the 2011 draft. Though gifted athletically and a hard worker defensively and on the boards, Vesely offense and confidence rarely translated into success. He averaged 3.6 points and 3.5 rebounds in 162 career games with Washington and Denver.

The most glaring weakness came with the ball in his hand. Vesely’s trips to the free throw line were often filled with dread for the players and those watching. He went 8 for 30 this past season with the Wizards and shot 40.8 percent over his three seasons

The Wizards shipped Vesely at the 2014 NBA trading deadline for point guard Andre Miller. The acquisition of the veteran point guard helped solidify Washington’s rotation and boost the eventual playoff run.

If indeed Vesely heads back across the pond, don’t think this will be the last we hear of him. Vesely thrived playing for his country in Eurobasket last season and plenty of international tournaments are out there, including the FIBA World Cup and the Olympics.

Blessed with good basketball instincts, Vesely knows how to play the game. At some point the confidence will kick in, or it won’t. Realistically, his chances of reaching that next level start with receiving consistent minutes. That’s not happening in the NBA, which makes a move back overseas the wise path.

I hated that pick from day one. Not a single bit of me is surprised that his career amounted to absolutely nothing.

lol at Fenerbahce being a "Euro power". You just can’t resist the urge and need to troll. Can you?

"Fenerbahce is consistently one of the elite teams in Europe"……….

Are you freaking serious? Even for a troll that is an outrageous comment. I am going to call you out on this. I’ve had enough of your absurd trolling here.

Prove your absurd and ridiculius claims because I am just sick of this nonense.

So go ahead, prove how they are "consistently one of the elite teams in Europe"……

Man, are you serious ? I presume from your basketball knowledge that you are an adult however your insults are ridiculously childlike. If you want to be taken seriously, then stop insulting people, when you do people automatically discard your opinion. You aren’t the only european poster on this site, trust me, being one of them. I believe Guillermo Hernandogomez or Matic Rebic are NBA material but I dont call anybody a troll for overhyping other individuals or downgrading the ones I propose.

I get a laugh out of Euroballer. Although I believe the way he blasts everyone who comments on anything European is the major reason there’s comparatively few European forum users.

The Wiz picked Jan over Klay Thomspon, Kawhi and Kenneth Faried.  Imagine Kawhi with Wall and Beal……Yikes.  Wiz could contend in the east with that trio easy.  Jan was absolutely terrible.  Being able to dunk was basically his only skill and most guys in the NBA can dunk so what else did he bring to the table?  An absolute bust.  And yes, his gf was the hilight of his brief NBA career.

People who say "such and such was taken ahead of Kawhi, imagine how good he would of been for them" are stupid. Kawhi is the player he is today because of the Spurs organisation. He wouldn’t any where near the player he was if he had gone to Washington

Yeah he may have left the NBA for now, but I don’t think this is it for Veseley. Just look at some other overseas players that didn’t start out too great, took their games back overseas then a couple years down the road, some NBA teams saw them begin to flourish and eventually two different teams brought both of them back for the next season and they were able to flourish in the NBA. Who am I talking about? Jose Calderon, and Anthony Parker. True, one of them is out league now and he quickly curtailed after flourishing in his first few comeback seasons but we will still got to see an improved play for Parker. And Calderon also tapered off after his comeback flourishing season, but NBA teams are still finding use for him. The Knicks still have him on their roster. They have a new coach (a point guard coach, might I add) and the Zen Master for their GM, so he might have a pretty good season this year for the Knicks.

So I wouldn’t count out Veseley just yet, that confidence will kick in eventually. He’ll play well overseas, some NBA team will take notice and in about 3-4 years, they’ll sign him to their team and he’ll flourish is his first comeback season. Who knows, that team could very well be the Nuggets. Brian Shaw, their coach, said he likes the young guy and sees real promise out of him. I don’t think he has given up faith in him, its just that both Veseley and Shaw know that he is two years from two years away, so he is stuck behind a couple of guys on the Nuggets depth chart so he ultimately wouldn’t get much run this coming season again but he obviously will overseas, so he took his game over there for now. Good for him, I’m happy for him and I wish him the best of luck overseas, and I hope to see him on an NBA roster come 3-4 years down the road.

Man I still feel like we don’t know what he could’ve been. the wizards did him badly. I feel bad for the guy and I wish him the best of luck. I was hoping the Sixers or Spurs got a hold of him. I’m just very surprised that he signed overseas I thought a team would at least take a gamble on him

Kawahi was well in the mix on a lot of mocks that year to possibly go to the Wizards at 6th, the flipside is they got Brad Beal in 2012. Last year’s draft pick Otto Porter still has hell of a lot to prove and I do worry he might get lost in rotation behind Paul Pierce and Martell Webster.

When Ariza moved on, it probably looked better for Porter long term with PP coming in, but Washington are very much win now and might not give Porter a lot of playing time. Hopefully PP can be a good mentor for him and they bring him along slowly behind PP and Webster.

Vesley was a big disappointment in the NBA, maybe going back to Europe to get his confidence back is the best move for him at this moment.
