Jdean24ParticipantJames Young is going too be a special player in time I believe he will be a top four or five two guard in league. I think he was Kentucky’s best player and their most clutch for the season as a bole. Harrison hit so big shots in the tournament but I’m looking big picture. He’s got a great stroke too go with very good size athleticism. Defensively he needs do work as do all these young men.
Also Aaron Gordon will be a top five or six player from this draft I think. Rodney Hood above him is ridiculous. Potential wise I think Gordon has more then Randle. But only time will tell.
Exum also makes me nervous as a Lakers fan. I know little about him an I wonder if this kid is really all he is hyped too be. Maybe he is but I wish he would have played in college a year too get too see his game more. I know we draft him if the Wiggins, Parker, Emiid are gone but if we miss on him we are set back quite a bit.

imAboutDatActionParticipantnot as high as you are on James Young. he has some good tools, but his bad defense, passing, and shot selection are things that give me hesistation.
Gordon is a werid prospect. he has great athletcism, versatile defender, and shown he can handle the ball some, but he lacks a position and cant shot the ball from anywhere.
Exum is just a mystery to many. the guy has great tools and scouts seem to love him, but we always gotta question someone like him who we havnt seen enough off.

Lotto StudParticipantPersonally I think Young brings the same thing Nick & Xavier does.

toady_buddhaParticipantI think Young is sleeper in this draft as well. I see him as an Eddie Jones type of player in the NBA. Far better player than most realize always under the radar type. I actually think alot of his defensive short coming were team breakdowns and not necessarily him getting beat.
Aaron Gordon on the other hand I have extreme concern over. He, SloMo and to a lesser extent TJ Warren and Jerami Grant all fall under the great athlete, no position types. Every year for some unknown reason everyone falls in love with these guys and their "potential". Very few ever pan out even satisfactorily and even fewer pan out anywhere near where they were actually drafted. Think, Beasley, Derrick Williams, etc. Even the very few who have managed to make starter status lately J Green, J Smith, T Young all have asterisks attached to them. Their off-the-charts athleticism lets them survive, but they are still as much a liability at their positions as they are beneficial. As long as you are running a system that calls for more of a stretch 4 or open floor running, they could work, but that all tends to die off come playoff time. Then the traditional bigger/ longer PFs tend to start taking over.
As for Exum, he could be MCW or better. But since we are limited in our exposure to him, who knows. One question, how is the caliber of basketball in Australia. I know they have had a few good prospects come out of there recently (Bogut, Mills), but they all spent some time stateside before making the move to the NBA. I honestly don’t know.

imAboutDatActionParticipant1. James Young was beat plenty of times. he’s just a bad defender, which is confusing since he has the tools to be a good one.
2. did you just call SloMo a great athlete?????????????

For_Never_EverParticipantEddie Jones was a very good defender. He was lackadaisical on offense.
I think James Young needs one of the top tier coaches at the next level to be good.

Magic JordanParticipantEddie Jones averaged 17 ppg or higher 7 times. He was far from lackadaisical on offense. He was way better on offense than he was on defense.
I thought James Young was going to be a better shooter, turns out he is just a high volume shooter.
And Lol to the dude who said SloMo is a great athlete…. You said it yourself… His nickname is SlowMo Lol…. Here is a hint…. Its not because of his athletic prowess.

toady_buddhaParticipantGranted with SloMo, the term "great athlete" might be a stretch. In his case, I was more referring to his jack-of-all trades types of skills and yet no true position.
As for the Eddie Jones reference, he was a very good defender early in his career. I was thinking more like when he was in Miami, his defense was still stout, but not elite and his scoring had picked up.

Jdean24ParticipantI’m aware most aren’t as high on Young as I am which is fine I don’t have any special info you guys don’t I just think he is a far better prospect then Henry is and with a rebuilding team why re up his contract. But too tear his defense apart is obvious he’s 19. None of the elite shooting guards were great defenders at 19.
Also Gordon has more skills at this point then Blake Griffin. I think he will be just fine. At worst I see him as a players similar too maybe Marcus Morris in Phoenix. Not a all star but that’s not bad for a players floor. I think he will far exceed that though.
Everything I’ve heard of Exum is he’s a better shooter then Carter-Williams and doesn’t turn the ball over as much. But again MCW played in a good college conference and now plays in the league so hard too judge him against Exum. I don’t remember this much mystery in a player since Darko (Sorry Detroit)

imAboutDatActionParticipantGordon is not more skilled than Blake at this point of their careers. Blake in college was a better shooter. Gordon is just horrendous at shooting the ball. Blake was also more physcially imposing downlow. Blake is 2 inches taller. Blake is a better athlete, which speaks to how much of a freak Blake is since we all know Gordon is a great athlete.
everyone should stop the blake/gordon comparisons. its obvious gordon is not like him and thats not his ceiling.

daggers818ParticipantI too think Gordon might have a nice NBA career as a solid rotation player who brings a strong motor. I can see him eventually giving a team 10-12 ppg and 8-10 rpg. Reminds me some of Kenneth Faried.

Magic JordanParticipantHe also has a high basketball IQ. I like Gordon as a prospect if he is picked in the 7- 12 range. He will do the little things to help you win, which is all I care about.

TenSecondTomParticipantI got Gordon ranked 8-9 range with Saric. Incredible athlete and high motor. All teams need players like him in order to be successful. In regards to the original post, the savior for the Lakers would be for them to draft Exum, get Love somehow, and teach Kobe after about 18 years in the league how to pass the ball and play team basketball.
