ilike.panochasParticipantIf your team is in a rebuilding mode and just flat out terrible and has absolutely no talent, which type of player would you build surround your team with? Versatile/do-it-all type player (ex.Josh Smith, Iguadala, Wilson Chandler, etc) or do you go with a player that is great at one skill, which is scoring (ex.Bargnani, Kevin Martin, Brook Lopez, etc) ?
Keep in mind that you can only add one type of talent on your team, and your current team basically has expansion team type talent.

HaleParticipantIf you have expansion team talent around you, then one player won’t mkae your team very good unless they are a premier player. So what I would do is take the jack of all trades guy, suck, and than draft another good player.
For the situation I believe a one great skill guy would probably get you more wins that one specific season. A jack of all trades guy won’t really help if he has no supporting cast.

Scottoant93ParticipantI would pick versatile player since it will be harder to exploit his weakness and they could still have some kind of impact on the game. Anyway if you have an expansion team you won’t expect win much your first year.

TeamShowtimeLakersParticipantyea i would take a jack of all trades because he will be versatile in many areas.

Ahkasi ClayParticipantSomebody with a little of everything! like the Jazz did with AK47 after Stockton and Malone, then added peices to it!
Oh my poor Jazz!

OhCanada-ParticipantI would start with a defensive core like Orlando did with Howard, and Charlotte did with Okafor. I know that year it was hard to avod those 2, but still that would be m intentions. Like for instance I would draft Valanciunas over Motiejunas anyday due to the defensive potential, Lighty over Klay Thomspson, Walker over Freddette.
If I could find a "jack of all trades" guy with good defense I would target him, but it all depends on range in drafts, where your selecting, cash you have in free agency, who wants to play for you, etc.
Defence, and frontcourt size first and foremost thou because those are the hardest things to find in the NBA.

The8thDeadlySinParticipantWell, the thing is, those guys that are "scorers" arent really much better scorers than the "jack-of-all-trades" players.
The "scorers" have career averages of close to 17-18 points per game while the "jacks" average close to 14-15 points per game for their careers..
If you were talking about a scorer like Durant, Kobe, Melo, or Amare, I have to go with a scorer… Those guys have career averages of 22+..
But since your scorers are closer to 17, I sacrafice the 3-4 points for the extra rebounds, assists, blocks, and steals..
Bottom line, from your list, I choose a "jack."

PureshooterParticipantI’d start with a master rebounder. They’re usually pretty good defenders, they don’t mind mixing it up and they usually have a good work ethic that could permeate throughout the team. Not many teams can overcome getting beat on the boards.

omphalosParticipantI’d choose a master hands-down. This question really boils down to Lebron vs Kobe. Lebron covers all the bases at a high level but doesn’t have that ridiculous shot making ability of Kobe which sets him apart.
If I were starting a franchise I’d take the scoring master in Kobe for the simple reason that having one ridiculous talent can be harder to stop than an all-around game. On a psychological level it’s demoralising knowing no matter how well you play this guy can keep it close no matter what you throw at him.
I’ll take the master thanks.

I agree with you if the master is great but his "masters" are third option scorers on championship teams..

HitsterParticipantIf you are talking complimentary starter level player for a specific skill with Brook Lopez or Bargnani mentioned then I’d be very tempted to take the intangibles jack of all trades like the names mentioned or a Boris Diaw for example. If the specific skill was with a higher rated player then I’d go specific skill.

ilike.panochasParticipantI guess I didn’t use great examples on “Master” of one. I was referring to a player that is a GREAT or even elite scorer, but fails or sucks in other areas.

goneParticipantDepends if the one dimension player is an explosive scorer. If my team sucks we won’t be good anytime soon so I want a scorer to put butts in seats
