Lotto StudParticipantI haven’t looked at the specifics of the contract, but hopefully, the organization has him on the same terms as Joel Embiid’s injury clause.

SeattleSuperChronicsParticipantIf Jabari works out the bulls are quietly having a really good off season.
Dunn
Lavine
Parker
Lauri
Wendell
I think that’s a playoff team.

SwatLakeCityParticipantI wouldn’t say its a playoff team, but its a good start. Remember Lauri will be in his second year next year. Yes, he is progressing at a fast pace, but we can’t expect it just to be all roses from here on out. They are going to have their ups and downs just like anyother young team. And the Bulls are even younger than other teams. Lauri will be in his second year, Wendell is a rookie, Dunn will be in his 3rd year, and Lavine will only be in his 5th year, so will Jabari. That’s their entire starting lineup. Playoff teams have a good starting lineup and a 6th man and sometimes even a 7th man. I don’t think the Bulls have found their 6th man yet. If this is thelast of their free agency acquisitions, I’d say they’ve improved their team to late lottery status instead of mid-lottery like they were this previous season in the first season of their fast-paced rebuild. And that’s a pretty good improvement.
I think the Bulls are going to turn out to be the Nuggets of the East (minus the bad contracts that they just got rid of) Its a little different situation, but a similar system that is a free-flowing offense. The Nuggets are on the cusp of making the playoffs, and they’ve been that way for 2 years now. But I think this year with the acquisition of IT they will get there. If the Bulls are the Nuggets of the East then that means this might be it this year and they won’t make the playoffs until 2020, not next year.

CameronCrazy11ParticipantWhile I do think they are a year or two away from the playoffs, I wouldn’t overlook Bobby Portis as a 6th man. He obviously had a less than stellar start to his season with the whole punch controversy he was involved in, but he quietly had a nice season. Put up 13.2 ppg and 6.8 rpg on just 22.5 mpg. His per 36 numbers are 21.1 ppg and 10.9 rpg. He’s only 23 right now too so he can still get better.

Lotto StudParticipantThe beauty of it is that I have no reason to question his character off the court to be a distraction at home.

jonus grumbyParticipantdid Milwaukee resind their qualifing offer? Details?
0- Posted on: Sat, 07/14/2018 - 3:44pm #1122318

Andv1 WaitingParticipantAlso they were apparently not going to match any offer in good faith as per Mentioning from Bucks twitter/Media sources(sorry can’t remember exactly which one). As I think they both knew it wasn’t working for them and he probably wanted to go home to Chicago…This move saved the Bucks overpaying for him when they weren’t fully sold on his long term future with the team and allows the player to also be happy with a fresh start.

MopgrassParticipantToo bad they couldn’t get Parker for 4 years. It’ll take 3 or 4 years for everyone on the team to be mature enough to really do something. Great start though and I agree they may squeak into playoffs.

BothTeamsPlayedHardParticipantWith his injury history, one year and an option is the best route. Locking in long-term money at this stage the Bulls rebuild wouldn’t make a ton of sense. If it turns out Parker cannot play the 3, then it will alter his value because of the presence of Markkanen and Portis. It might mean Portis is allowed to leave next summer, and Parker moves into the 4 and 5 rotation with Markkanen and Carter. It might also mean they decline his option and put that and the other expiring money (Lopez, Asik, Holiday, and Payne) towards 2019 free agents. Either way, they will have a chance to get out of a mistake. If he stays healthy, plays well, and fits in, then it is the third biggest market in the country. They can afford to pay to keep their guys if they are contending, especially one from the city.

OhCanada-ParticipantThis teams in the playoffs next year.
0- Posted on: Sat, 07/14/2018 - 12:58pm #1122304

BothTeamsPlayedHardParticipantEven if they avoid major injury setbacks, my point of apprehension for their ability to get into the playoffs is that when looking at the guys projected to be in their rotation, only Robin Lopez has ever played 2,500 minutes in a season. One guy, in one season has maxed out at the equivalent of 30 minutes per game for an 82 game season.
Max minutes
Dunn- 1,525
LaVine- 2,294
Parker- 2,408
Markanen- 2,020
Lopez- 2,603
Payne- 698
Holiday- 2,265
Valentine- 2,095
Portis- 1,643
Carter Jr.- rookieI wouldn’t be surprised if they start out well by Eastern standards, because they have a nice young collection of talent, but it would seem likely more than a few of them might hit the wall come March.

OhCanada-ParticipantLast year the management was trying to lose games. They did everything they could to lose and still won 27 games to get the 7th pick. The players even spoke about it.
Paul Zipser speaking to Rhein Neckar Zeitang.
“I think we had a philosophy in the club that I simply did not like anymore. There were many rotations that would not normally happen in a team. All this change was difficult for everyone — and especially for me personally,” Zipser told the newspaper in translated remarks. “In the beginning it was not properly communicated to the players. Only later came the announcement that you would like to change something in the rotation, but as a player we could do nothing about it. That finally destroyed the team spirit. Even before that you had already noticed with a few things that decisions were illogical if you want to make a successful season.”
Robin Lopez with NBCA Sports.
“It was rough for me. I get it. I understand it,” Lopez said. “I always want to be out there playing on the court. That’s what I enjoy, especially playing with these guys. But I’m excited to watch these guys give it a go from the bench.”[…] Lopez claims no knowledge about that ugly “T” word. “I’m not familiar with military artillery,” he said.
I think they couldve competed for a playoff birth if they started the season with some urgency and held onto Mirotic. They had quite the win streak going for bit there but then they went back into tank mode traded away the players making them successful and benched Jerian Grant, Robin Lopez and Justin Holiday and others that were contributing.

BothTeamsPlayedHardParticipantThe event that really ended any good play was when Dunn landed face/teeth first on the court and had concussion like symptoms for a month. Given how long his symptoms lasted, and what is now known about the long lasting impact of head trama, they probably would have been justified in not bringing him back at all. One of the unknowns is how the approach would have changed should that injury not have happened.
Would they have been perfectly comfortable playing it out and maybe being 10 wins better? On one hand, the ability to win games with Dunn, Markkanen, Mirotic, Portis, Lopez, Nwaba, and Holiday speaks to the vision not being completely off. It is better for the job security of everyone involved if players perform well. On the other hand, the abstract of the #7 and #12 or #13 pick seems greater than it is. If the Bulls were 10 wins better, they might feel as confident in gambling on Michael Porter as Denver. Maybe they could feel justified in coming away with Lonnie Walker or Miles Bridges. If they come away with Lonnie Walker, maybe they feel comfortable letting LaVine go and put that money towards a big offer to Clint Capela. Who knows. Still, Wendell Carter wouldn’t have been there at #12-15.
What there is now, though, is a very young and inexperienced team. They have talent, but even the second to fifth year guys don’t have a ton of minutes under them. I think they should re-sign Nwaba to give them cover as a wing defender, but with 1,600 minutes last year it isn’t like he is a locked in guarnatee. If Detroit is lucky with health, it will probably be north of .500. Cleveland’s vets might have some quit in them in order to get out of town, but, on paper, it is miles ahead of the team left behind in 2011. There isn’t going to be a ton of chase from New York, Brooklyn, Atlanta, or Orlando, so being in the hunt for the playoffs isn’t going to be that difficult. I think questioning whether they have the pace for 82 games, even if only 10 teams go for 8 slots, is a fair concern.

RUDEBOY-ParticipantLove the signing.I’m Adding Bulls to my League Package next season. Big question is The health of Parker & Lavine. I Guess it was Parker’s potential that got him a bigger payday than Randle.
0 - Posted on: Sat, 07/14/2018 - 11:20am #1122297

BasterdInABasketParticipantThis team has been historically bad at drafting and keeping their guys. Giannis is the exception of course but look at what they have done besides him.
Rashad Vaughn bust, Tobias they gave away, same thing for Parker use the #2 doesn’t get a chance and he’s gone for good, Sanders initially was a good pick until it wasn’t, all the way back to Joe Alexander and Yi- more busts. Jury’s still out on DJ Wilson and Thon.
So John Henson has been their best pick other than Giannis since Bogut. Wow that is pathetic.

BothTeamsPlayedHardParticipantBrogdon is a solid player. They also turned Middleton into the player he is as he was one of the "other guys" thrown into the Jennings for Knight trade.

whiteflashParticipantReally hope he can stay healthy and show what he’s got, ’cause Parker can straight up ball.
0 - Posted on: Sat, 07/14/2018 - 1:20pm #1122307

sweaterflexParticipantThe Bulls have a lot of interesting individual talents, but the fit is bad and they will be a dumpster fire on defense. Dunn is their only quality perimeter defender, Lavine may be the worst perimeter defender in the league, Jabari should be playing the 4 but will be forced to the 3, and Lauri should get minutes at the 5 but he’ll be forced to play the 4 exclusively. Their two best interior defenders (Carter and Lopez) can’t play at the same time, though Lopez is a likely trade candidate. This team can space the floor finally and should be fun to watch, but I doubt they are a playoff team at full strength, and I doubt they can stay healthy.

Dazzling Dunks and Basketball BloopersParticipantThis is honestly a bigger offer than I thought he would get. I’m not at all surprised Milwaukee didn’t match. It’s kind of a strange fit because Parker seems more suited to play the 4 in today’s nba but he will primarily be playing the 3 in Chicago. Having 3 defensive sieves in the starting lineup in Parker, LaVine and markannen seems like it could be a problem.
But still it’s a feel good story for Parker coming back to his hometown team. This is still a relatively young player who is was playing at a borderline all-star level 2 seasons ago before getting hurt. Hopefully he can get back to that level and stay healthy.

HitsterParticipantJohn Hammond made some pretty good draft moves for the Bucks IMO during his time there.
Jabari came back solidly from his 2nd ACL but the jury is still a bit out on him. But he has got a cracking payday for next season and with a thumping team option for the next year the Bulls have given themselves a very nice potential trade piece.
So it looks a good deal for all parties.
I’d assume Jabari will likely play more at SF for the Bulls having been more a PF for the Bucks. The Bulls will likely use Lauri M and Portis at PF mainly and Wendell Carter could even see minutes there. But their coach now has some nice options to go smallball if needed with Holiday at SF or even run a 3 guard combination.
With a few queries above about the workload some of the roster can take, they may run a fairly deep roster and build up minutes gradually for the key guys.

The GoatParticipantI’m surprised no one has tried to take Bobby Portis off their hands. He doesn’t appear to be someone they want to build around. Despite punching Mirotic, which looks like an isolated incident, he seems to be a guy you’d keep.
I’m not big on Lavine’s contract. Should’ve let him go in a sign and trade. Defensively they’ll really need to improve now. Dunn, Lauri and Carter can’t defend 5 at a time.
0 - Posted on: Sat, 07/14/2018 - 4:02pm #1122322
celtics1982ParticipantThe signing isn’t bad and low risk, but are they trying to make the playoffs or rebuilding? I’d rather they tank for another year or two, then go for it. If everything goes right they might be a playoff team, which is great, but not really. I would have tried to get some top 5 picks and used cap space to get more assets.
0 - Posted on: Sat, 07/14/2018 - 7:06pm #1122328
cohenbc1ParticipantThe Bulls are an interesting team now, but probably not a good one yet. They’re too young and have a mismatched roster. They have a glut of guys who should all play 4 and 5: Parker, Markkanen, Carter, Lopez, Portis and Asik. If they win 35 games they should consider it a major success.
0 - Posted on: Sun, 07/15/2018 - 6:22am #1122350

HitsterParticipantThe Bulls won 27 games last season so would be looking to push on from that this coming season with Lauri M and Dunn continuing to improve. Lavine having had more recovery time and getting a full pre-season in plus the addition of Wendell Carter before they even moved for Jabari.
Of the teams below them last season we could expect the Hawks and Kings certainly to be so. The Magic and the Suns could well be so too, the Knicks may well struggle minus Porz. Whilst Memphis and Dallas may improve, the Bulls wouldn’t be in a clear tanking position. So adding Parker is a low risk move, if things don’t wotk out that $20 million player option is a great trading chip to take a salary dump back with and get more assets.
I agree with CohenBC above, anything above 35 wins would be overperformance, something in that ballpark would seem reasonable and give them another decent lottery pick and a chance to get lucky.
