AderitoParticipantJabari Parker and Andrew Wiggins have been named the NBA’s Rookies of the Month for November.
Parker helped lead the Bucks to a 10-8 mark during October/November by averaging 11.9 points (T-1st among rookies), 6.1 rebounds (2nd), 1.7 assists (7th) and 1.33 steals (2nd) per game. He began his career by posting double-doubles in two of his first three games (11 points and 10 rebounds on Oct. 31 vs. Philadelphia, and 13 points and 11 rebounds on Nov. 1 at Washington). In doing so, Parker became just the 14th player in the last 30 seasons to record multiple double-doubles within his first three career games, and the only teenager to accomplish the feat.
Wiggins averaged 11.6 points (2nd among NBA rookies), 3.7 rebounds and 1.13 steals in 15 games, all starts. He led all rookies in three-point field goal percentage at 44.0 percent (11-for-25). Among Western Conference rookies, Wiggins was 1st in scoring, steals and minutes played, 2nd in blocks and 3rd in rebounding.

SeattleSuperChronicsParticipant44 percent from 3 point land is a surprise- I still think the cavs made a huge mistake

CU.LIONSParticipantReally no surprise. Anything less would have been a disappointment. I expect both to continue to improve as the season goes along.
Too bad 4 of the next 5 picks are injured. Embiid, Gordon, Smart and Randle though.

lalailaParticipantI really hope it’s all about potential and they will take leaps like Anthony Davis (or at least something similar) but for now, a rookia winning ROY award with 12&6 would be one of the worst this award winner and it’s no secret…
yes offcourse 3rd 4th 6th 7th pick are injured, but out of them I see only Embiid having potential to be stud from day one(Randle would get minutes)
So, like I said, it still don’t take out their upside out of them, but as far as being good NOW, this draft is loooooong ways from being what they was supposed to be

phila9012ParticipantAnthony davis didnt win rookie of the year and he is a top 3 player in the NBA in his third season. I think Wiggins has the potential to make leaps like that. He is already a great defender. He can create and make tough mid range jumpers off the dribble, He seems to be a solid shooter as in he should shoot it at around 35% to 37% from 3 for the year, which is great for a young player with his athleticism. If he tightens up his handles and works at finishing around the basket (this should improve through out the season) He could easily score 18 to 20 ppg on 42 to 44% from the field.
I am surpised parker isnt doing better because he was supposed to be the one who would be clearly better for the first few years. I thought he would be able to get 15 to 18 ppg for year relatively easily.

PhillytheKidsometimes it comes down to watching a player.
A player like Durant and D. Wade, and Anthony Davis popped out at me. I never saw Jordan play in his early days, but I did watch him hit the clutch UNC floating jumper. He hit that same shot throughout his NBA career. These guys have either special skills or special athleticism with fundamental skills.
I don’t know if Wiggins will ever develop into a beautiful basketball player with all the fundamentals. Charles Barkley has that video on Dirk at 18 schooling Scottie Pippen. Dirk became a star, and the other players I listed above are all hall of famers. Frankly, I knew they’d be HOFers the first time I saw them play, and I knew they would be special. I never saw that in Wiggins, or Greg Oden.
Jabari Parker – he has all the skills, but doesn’t have a set position in the NBA. Also his conditioning used to make me wonder whether he’d be able to play a full NBA season and playoffs. He’s also just trying to find his spot in the NBA surrounded by veterans that are higher IQ. He doesn’t have the confidence (or stamina), to take over games.
Wiggins – short bursts of greatness but on the whole doesn’t seem to have the mentality of a killer out there. Doesn’t seem to be a guy that will work tirelessly at his game, because his fundamentals are NOT there. (He’s not a naturally gifted shooter, it looks like a rock coming out of his hands), but he has potential with his athleticism to put it all together. My eye just isn’t impressed by his baseline.
Embiid – you could see the kid was special if he could stay healthy. Its so obvious. Bill Self would talk way more positively about Embiid than Wiggins.
I dont know if its mental, but these guys do not wow me. We were comparing them to Melo and Lebron? I remember watching Lebron’s first game in the NBA, I was wowed.

Big_C_KUParticipantWiggins shot actually looks really good. 10x more smoother and consistent than what he showed at KU. A huge reason he’s shooting over 46% from 3. He has lost some of that consistency on his pull up jumper though as the season has gone along. We knew the handles and finishing ability would be a weakness as those don’t improve over night. My concern is he falls in love with the stepback jumper too much even when he has his defender off balance or has a mismatch. Seems whenever he drives he gets fouled or finishes. Needs to have the mentality to drive first and use that step back jumper off that action especially when the jumper isn’t.
The improvements in his game from last year to this year are already very noticeable and give hope that he’ll make great strides the next few years to become a star. Hopefully he hires Irving’s dribbling coach to help his handles. He did a wonder over yhe summer with Ben McLemore.0 - Posted on: Thu, 12/04/2014 - 9:38am #957938

B-ball fanParticipantMCW has the most uncertain future of any ROY in a long time. Very mediocre player.
I think Jabari probably wins the ROY. He struggled big time over the first five games of the season, but has been much better recently. He has a TS% of 56.1 over the past 15 games, excellent for a teenage rookie, and he has started to pass the ball really well lately. He has ceased to overdribble, like he did early in the season, and has started to make excellent swing passes in addition to the dump-off passes he excels at.
While last year showed efficiency doesn’t really help that much with winning ROY, Parker’s efficiency and steady improvement shows he has more room to increase his scoring numbers than most rookies. Jabari should be the top rookie in points and rebounds at the end of the season and he should contend for the lead in steals.
Funny that people criticized Jabari for being a chucker in college, while Wiggins was supposed to be the team player, but Wiggins is the guy more reliant on iso scoring, while Parker is the guy moving without the ball, screening and bringing more of a complementary game.

So far who is Jabari reminding you of? I haven’t watched him at all this year.

B-ball fanParticipantHe definitely is playing very different than Melo or Pierce. His footwork when he faces up in the post is a lot like Melo’s, but he hasn’t been doing that as much lately.
Parker is really a rather unique player. His aggression around the rim is kinda like Blake Griffin actually. He isn’t as springy as Blake, but he is still fifth in the league with 34 dunks on the season. He gets a lot of offense moving without the ball or making hard drives to the rim when nobody cuts him off. That part of his game is a little like Markieff Morris or Thaddeus Young, although he is definitely a better ball-handler than either of them. He is struggling with his catch-and-shoot game, but it looks like he has a nice pull-up jumper, which is where the Pierce and Melo comparisons come in.
Parker seems like he isn’t yet polished as post/iso scorer, as he is kinda in a shooting slump and his footwork in the post is bad when he doesn’t face-up. But he has flashed good team play and is passing the ball well now. At the start of the season he was a little bit of a ball stopper and he had five consecutive bad shooting nights to start the season, but he has really improved and turned things around lately.
I guess my stylistic comparison for Parker would be Thaddeus Young, but Parker is a lot more talented as a shooter and ball handler than Young and has even more potential as a finisher around the rim.
