valentineyou have to pick 1 player. ALLEN IVERSON or DERRICK ROSE.
choose wisely, and give your reasoning.
and lets make this even more interesting, tell me you you think wins 1 vs. 1.
(i hope this question was never asked!)

boshjonesfordParticipantDerrick Rose …… Iverson cant even get a spot on the nba lol
Im assuming you mean both coming out of collage….i probobly would take rose …. AI might be a bit faster then rose who is pretty quick but rose has strenth, athletisim and size that is significantly better then AI and i dont know Rose seems more like a winner
i dont maybe its just that i havent seen AI play in a while and have seen Rose perform well recently but i would choose rose

MagikKnickParticipantI’d like Rose, Iverson was great but he was a ballstopper, didnt really make teammates better, and while Rose isnt a master at that himself, he’d be more fit for running the point guard..
As far as one on one, tough, both possess blinding speed, but I dont think Iverson could handle Roses athleticism..then again, Iversons game is tailor-made for 1v1, so it’d be close…but im taking Rose

JBrace19ParticipantDerrick Rose, even though he isn’t quite as quick, he is just as fast if not faster, more explosive, stronger, bigger, less-selfish, better defender, and more advanced mentally than AI was at his age.

HarbingerYou act like iverson wasn’t one of the GOAT scoring gaurds and probally the smallest you see how durant finds a way to get the ball in the hoop now iverson did the same.Rose isnt in his prime yet and whats this thing about ppl saying rose isnt a playmaker the starting shooting gaurd for the bulls is a journey man who averaged 4.4 points a game this season and the back up a "stand still shooter" average 8 both in 20 mins a game.not to mention noah and boozer being hurt one the anchor of defense the other the anchor of post offense and second if not 1st option in scoring missing chunks of the season .Therefore if rose doesnt score HE DOESNT WIN theres no defense or low post scoring at the time so somebody has to score to insure a W rose does that. I hate when people qestion his pg skills as if hes a horrid play maker.

Tongue-Out-Like-23ParticipantIverson
The way he carried a terrible 76ers team all the way to the Finals was ridiculous.
He would have won a ring or two had he played with Noah, Boozer, Gibson, Asik, Deng, Brewer, Korver, and Bogans.

i’m jus so offendedParticipantI dont know man, good question. I immediately thought D Rose but it’s a little harder than that. Iverson, while many times considered a selfish player, he took the Sixers to the Finals with starters including Aaron McKie. He was a once in a generation type player, beautiful to watch, and one of the most brilliant scorers in basketball history. The only thing that can be argued against him is that D Rose is bigger, stronger and better defensively (though AI was a good defender early in his career)…I would probably still go with Rose b/c I don’t see him fizzling out like AI did at the end of his playing days

TimbosliceParticipantSince it’s current rose or a prime iverson, give me iverson. It seems like some people forget how good he was. He took Tyrone hill, Matt Geiger, Eric snow and George lynch to the finals by himself. He wasn’t even 6 feet and he was unstoppable, I miss iverson

rileymcshea3ParticipantIverson was a crazy good scorer but didnt shoot 50% like the LeBrons and Jordans … Plus you gotta give it to iverson for carrying Philly with a pretty crappy team besides him and Mutombo ….But Iverson isnt as much of a creator for other players and D-Rose is ….. And D-Rose hasnt hit his full potential yet he is only in his third season and can still improve alot so i would go with D-Rose because he is a no doubt good sized Pg as for Iverson he is more of a smaller 2 .

dolla130Participantas the pg id take rose i think imo hes a bigger unselfish iverson but thats just me
in a one on one im going with one of the goat one on one players ever after jordan and probably before kobe imo rose may be bigger stronger and just as quick but iverson was way faster and his cross over in a one on one would eat rose alive

Bmore_DCParticipantgreat post…
like other ppl i went D-Rose off the bat…basically because im not that big of an Iverson fan. But then when you take a step back, you realize what kind of career Iverson has had. to be that little and score that many points is amazing. he is a hall of fame player and that is more than you can say for D-Rose (although i know that is unfair)…
bottom line is i really believe D-Rose can get BETTER…
you can learn how to be a great passer…steve nash proved that when he came out as a shooting/combo guard and morphed himself into one of the best passers ever. Iverson never did that…D-Rose CAN. His basketball IQ and PG ability has gotten better each year. So not only is D-Rose bigger he is also a better point guard. I think athletically D-Rose wins again…ill give scoring ability to Iverson but not by much. D-Rose is still young and is still getting better
WINNER = Derrick Rose #1 Chicago Bulls

MJBrownParticipantThere is absolutely no arguement here. Allen Iverson. How can you compare a kid who’s been in the league for 3 years to one of the best scoring guards in the history of the game? One MVP doesn’t create a legacy. Let’s talk again after 8 or 9 years.

NJHooper95ParticipantComing out of college its Iverson no question. Better scorer, better shooter. Quick as ever. Remember Rose wasnt even the man on his Memphis Team. His was Chris Douglas-Roberts who carried them. Rose got hot during the tournament. He didnt really dominate throught the season. Iverson was just amazing. I would take AI. AI also played against a guard heavy big east. To name a few Kerry Kittles, Ray Allen, Lawrence Moten, Damon Santiago(Rutgers) Felipe Lopez. AI was the man in tough company.
Who would in a one on one. Iverson. Because he is a streetballer and one on one is just his game.
Im not comparing their NBA Careers because Iverson would easily win because Rose has only played three years, but coming out of college AI would kill Rose.
I played against Damon Santiago one day in the park one on one. So I asked him is Iversons crossover as fast as it looks on TV and he said "NO ITS MUCH FASTER IN PERSON!!!" He said it was no way to stop him.

MJBrownParticipantThe truth is, I think Rose is going to retire as one of the greatest and most revolutionary PG’s of all time. I was totally awestruck watching him play this year. But he’s 21 and has an MVP to his name. Allen Iverson has a legacy. He was 6 feet tall in shoes and that might be generous and scored at a rate that few in the history of the league has ever done. He took teams to the finals that probably had no business being there. When its all said an done, Rose might in fact end up being the better player, but then again, he might not. My point is I’d never disgrace a player with a legacy by comparing him to a player who’s barely legal to drink. The only thing more disrespectful in my mind was when Harold Miner was called the next Michael Jordan before he ever stepped foot on an NBA floor.

tyasayParticipanti choose rose because although AI had a killer crossover but AI is short, and i dont think he has all the tools that rose has not to mention that rose is still young and has a lot more time to mature
The one on one game goes to Iverson because he can cross anyone over his crosover gets him past rose 9 times out of ten

thparadoxParticipantRose. Easily
Iverson is one of the most overrated players ever. He was devestatingly quick, and really really tough. I admire his gritty attitude to the game.
But he was never an efficient scorer. I think a lot of other players could get 30 ppg if they took 25 shots per game. He’s better than his FG% because he was very good at getting to the FT line. However, overall he still wasn’t efficient.
People underrate Iverson’s supporting cast on that 76ers team. The team fit him perfectly. It wasn’t a great team, but they played very good defense (Mutombo and Tyrone Hill were solid defending/rebounding) and they won a very weak Eastern Conference.

MJBrownParticipanta poor FG% is no reason to call AI overrated. AI dominated basketball games in a way that few players in the history of the game have been able to do. Sometimes you gotta throw the stats out the window. If it were so easy to score 30, everyone would be doing it.
That’s fine if you’re not an AI fan, I respect that, but you never did explain why you think that a guy that has only been in the league for 3 years has already surpassed AI’s legacy.

frogmanParticipantHow can you not love Iverson’s game? The most entertaining player in the history of the NBA. And that’s why I watch the NBA for entertainment. Even his interviews were entertaining. That ‘we talkin bout practice’ video is my favorite basketball video of all time. Deadest seems like it would be more interesting talking to a wall than D-Rose lol.
And if that argument didnt convince you, then the fact that prime AI is better than the current D-Rose should settle it. Although this could be an interesting question in a few years.

inukawaii8Participanti would choose AI at his prime over the current rose any day. early 2000s, AI was known as the best scorer in the world, and crowned by many nba analysts, the best pound to pound basketball player at that time.
i see lots of people say rose is more athletic than AI. really? REALLY? wth is athletic? jump higher? you guys have to know rose has at least 3 inch if not 4 inch on AI. AI has 41 inch vertical compared to Rose’s 40. AI is as quick, if not quicker, as rose. AI has comparable speed as Rose. the only sure advantage rose has over AI is his size and strength. still, AI played through so many injuries throughout his career. i would not exactly call him a "weakling."
furthermore, some people say rose is a winner. AI was a winner too. yes, he didnt win any champ, but he took a pretty weak team to the finals, and was the only team to beat the lakers that playoff.
AI is a beast back in the day. rose is still young, and he still has room for improvement. but for now, AI at his prime > rose easily.

GottaFeedTheFamParticipantIf I had to choose between both players and were playing organized 5 on 5 basketball, I’m picking DRose. Both players strengths are very similair, excellent athleticism, ridiculous speed and quickness, extremely good handles, both know how to get to the hole and draw contact and finish after contact. The also both have similair weaknesses, they both play solid yet unspectatular defense, both are ball stoppers that have a tendacy to overdribble as well, both were not good outside shooters, and they both were not comfortable finding that medium between running a team and scoring. I picked Rose because AI was the biggest black hole on offense I ever saw and AI could not run a team effectively for long periods of time, Rose is a better player in a team setting ( I know when I play ball I hate playing with blackholes and I think everyone else is like that as as well). With that being said AI is one of the greatest guards ever to play in the league and I dont know if Rose can/will ever match his production. In a 1 v 1 setting I think AI would kill Rose however, I think in his prime hes was faster than rose is, quicker than rose is, had an infinitely better understanding of how to score and a much larger range of moves in his arsenal, plus AI knew how to pick his spots and completely demoralize people with hopw he scored on them, plus AI was a better shooter than rose is. Also, AI was a monster at stealing the ball dude could have been the mayor of ripcity and I havent even mentioned AI’s crossover yet, plus AI was a great trash talker and thats a huge plus in 1 v 1.

surveParticipantNot easy to choose, the one thing I like about Rose is, in the NBA he can get to the rim better than AI. Rose is a great penetrator and finisher. AI is simply a much better perimeter scorer than Rose. I think AI wins one on one. Just like Magic was a unique player, AI is as well. Right now I have to go with AI.

Toronto16ParticipantIverson.
Let’s not forget, at one point Iverson was a bigger and more popular star than Lebron is now. He may have been a ball stopper, but he brought a team of scrubs to the NBA finals. Iverson when he was in his prime was a completely unstoppable scorer. I am a Raptor fan, so I remember the 2nd round of the 2001 playoffs, when Iverson single-handedly eliminated my team.

rwd5035ParticipantThis question should be relatively easy, and it is, Allen Iverson is THE ANSWER. We already know the career that AI had, and until we can see more of Derrick Rose, we can’t pick him over a future hall of famer. I disagree that AI didn’t get the best out of teammates because if you watch the 01 playoffs, you will have seen a man rubbing off on his teammates in a positive way.
Now, Derrick Rose has an insanely high ceiling, and will have a great career if he can stay healthy. I’d argue he’s about as unstoppable as Iverson was because of Derrick’s ability to get to the basket, and finish in traffic. D Rose is a better athlete, and if he can develop a solid mid range jump shot, I just don’t know what you would do to stop him.
You can’t take D Rose over a definite hall of famer, but in five years, ten years could you? Absolutely.

cward23ParticipantRight now?..Iverson easily. I haven’t forgotten how good he is although i do like Rose and he hasn’t reached his peak yet, his best year last season wasn’t as good as Iverson’s and Iverson got further with less help.

aamir543Participantyeah, Iversom hands down, but it’s still waaaaay to early. But with Iverson at age 22 and Rose at 22, I take Iverson.
If you ask me, this going to go down like the MJ, Kobe discussion. MJ is inevitably better, and Kobe will always be a notch below him.

JoeWolf1Derrick Rose hasn’t hit his prime yet. He’s gotten better every year for his first 3 and I don’t think he’s stop growing as a player. I would take Iverson in his prime over a 23 year old Derrick Rose, but if Rose keeps progressing like he has so far I think he will be the better player when he does hit is prime.

HarbingerOne thing I hated about people calling iverson a black hole he has a nice career average in assit he’s no jason kidd or rondo but he does pass at time but the main reaso he doesnt has more he had no weapons around him.I rember when they brought in webber{who soon got a job on tv} and big dog glen smh.Growing up watchin Iverson play I saw how he’s team would just stand and watch him at times even a young carmello who was use to being the main attraction in primary scorer would just watch. So its hard to set teammates up when its the playoffs and everyone is counting on you to score and they just play d and rebound.Sometimes the sixers would play better when iverson was hurt and go on winning streaks but when he played he couldnt always get them involved and they didnt step up or take charge. PLUS THE SIXERS FRONT OFFICE WAS AND STILL IS HORRIBLE except larry brown back in the day .
