LSU just knocked UK to 15-5.  Before the season the talk was about this team going 40-0.  The freshman class being better than Fab 5.  Kentucky will have a record number of lottery picks.  All of this is now proven false.  Can anyone think of a team with more hype that has not lived up to the hype?  Now I know it’s early still but after tonight it’s pretty obvious to me that this team lacks the effort to win a national title.

Sidenote:  the announcer on ESPN was pretty critical of UK’s performance tonight.  Even called WCS pathetic and nearly lost it when UK cut the lead down then let LSU dribble out the time.

I think their going to be fine, if they can get a 3 or 4 seed in a tournament that will be perfect.. other than this game the other games they’ve lost by 5 or less so their in the games they just need a competitive edge.. Randle needs to get nasty again I feel like he’s losing his patience cause he’s getting doubled and tripled in the post. Cauley Stein is going through a slump it happens he’ll get out of it, Dakari is doing great though.

I’m not losing any faith in them I still think they have the POTENTIAL to be a final four team.. they just gottta reach it

a lot of the problem is calipari. he is an ace recruiter, but as a coach he is overrated. he has so much talent on this team and he does not command enough respect to get these guys to follow a game plan. it seems this year his guys have the one and done idea on there minds more than the game plan. that’s on calipari to get his players to lock in.

Egotistic just like most of his recruits.  As a coach you instill confidence in the guys who can help you win.  The point is to win!  Not to harp on Harrow but last season Cal tore his confidence to pieces while instilling confidence in Juluis Mays….Mays can’t win you games in the worst conference in America…

Alot of people thought they had a chance…I remember they even had 40-0 shirts for sale before the season.  I mean they had 8 future first round players on paper before the start of the season.  I know its changed now but thats what it was before the season.

As a UK fan myself, they are hard for me to even watch this year.  Although I’ve migrated to be more a fan of the NBA as opposed to college I still normally watch every game and this year I just can’t get myself to care.

They could get lucky and make a run in the tourney but all year they’ve looked terrible.  Randle is playing out of position (a natural ball handler hybrid who is stuck solely in the post hiding his versatility and explosiveness), Andrew Harrison is not a PG, and any team with Jarrod Polson in its rotation will most likely be a mediocre team.  Dakari Johnson is as slow as molasses, Cauley-Stein I think is going thru depression, and Alex Poythress (once a lottery lock after the McD’s game and the first five games of last season) is a 4 year dissappointment and has no competitiveness along with the rest of this team.

They’ve been a joke so far..

If you can recall the fab 5 didnt exactly have a spectacular regular season as freshman. If it wasnt for that tourney run their season may have been considered a failure. I do think that kentucky was a little overhyped during the summer and preseason, but hey the amount of talent that was brought in there it was inevitable.

Throw Ryan Harrow in there at the Point and I believe this team is better.  Everybody was so down on Harrow last year but at the midpoint of conference play last season Harrow was easily playing like the best PG in the conference (until Cal decided to ruin the kids confidence).  Harrow wasn’t the problem last year.  The team around him was.  Archie Goodwin was so out of control he’d shoot wild lay ups nearly over the backboard every game.  Julius Mays was the WORST starting SG in a high major conference!  Kentucky=OVERRATED  no PG play the twins are extremely overrated!

Too many egos I think. Nobody from UK even helped Dakari Johnson up when he dived for the ball over those cheerleaders. Also they did not foul when they were down by 5. Basic fundamentals.

well,i’d say the draft class rankings overrated the players. the hype came solely because the rank each player was given.

the Twins arent the one and done guards who’ll be picked in the lottery players they were made out to be. The have the talent and you’l see why they were hyped up this much, but they’re not ready.they need another year in college.

    Marcus lee doesnt even play.

Randle is good, but plays a very selfish brand of basketball and has flaws thats being exposed in conference play. he has short arms and only has 1 go to move which every one knows. he’s getting doubled/tripled team and turningover the ball or forcing a bad shots.if he cant bully you, than he’s pretty limited down there. he’s shown flashes off his jumper but doesnt fall back on it.

James Young is living up to his offensive billing but isnt a good man to man defender.

Dakari is now starting to get playing time since he’s outplaying WCS and you see why he’s a 5 star recruit, his post game is very strong.he’s jus not a good athlete and barely leaves the ground when he;s off his feet for a board or block.

the whole team is selfish, mentally weak, have a low collective IQ,and inexperienced(youngest team in the nation).

they’ll enter the tourney ,with a no so favorable seed, and i expect them to make the sweet 16.Peopls jus forget, these are freshmen.its not easy,no matter how the Anthony Davis class made it seem.players need time to learn the college game and mature.

Calipari/Kentucky isn’t about building a winning program. He’s about selling talented kids on the fact that he can get them to the NBA. There’s nothing legit about Calapari or any team he’s ever coached. More top recruits need to start looking at the big ten, where young players grow into men and flourish in the NBA.

They have been ever since they won the title with Davis.

They keep getting nice freshmen, and everyone jumps on the bandwagon. It was rediculous to have them rated #1 before anyone even saw them play. And it was proven the first game of the season. They are a good team, but they are not quite a final four team yet……i repeat  yet.

last year’s team really showed how calipari’s one and done strategy may backfire.  the team had no chemistry.  same is going on this year.  a bunch of guys that dribble too much, turnover the ball too much and shoot bad shots.

Talent wise I like this KY team…they just don’t have a PG who can create for others or themselves…Andrew Harrison is a combo IMO could he improve with time? Yes but rite now He isn’t a NBA caliber PG

So we are all in agreement that the Harrison twins are overrated.  It’s funny I got a chance to see them play AAU vs Boo Williams (VA) and they flat out killed Anthony Barber (PG/NC State) and Al Freeman (SG/Baylor).  I don’t see the same players when I watch Kentucky.

They have talent, but most of these guys have played too much AAU basketball, their IQ is so low. Also this team has no good defenders, Poythress is long, athletic and is a good on ball defender, but when he’s far from the ball he forgets about his man, overrotates and sometimes he’s too aggressive on close outs. They try to defend only with their athleticism, always trying to block shots, and they mess up rotations or double teams against post ups. I mean, take a look:

    http://www.youtube.com/watch

There are at least 3 terrible team defensive plays, but one at 0.50 really shocked me during the game: Stinger drives, Aaron Harrison stays too close to his man and should be at least a step closer to the paint to discourage the easy, straight line drive; the help defender in the paint, Poythress, is late and instead of closing the line, put himself in a position to try to block the shot. This is terrible defense, but since Poythress is really long and athletic, he’s able to force Stinger to a tough, heavily contested shot. But Cauley-Stein has the best idea ever!!! Why not leave your man totally open and go and try to block a tough shot two of your teammates are already contesting? Stinger would have probably missed that layup, but WCS offers him an easy passing option to get out of troubles. The result is obviously the easiest basket possible. They make a lot of this dumb plays each game and they made a lot against LSU, making their bigs looking all future Nba players, but this one really impressed me a lot. And people ask why many don’t like WCS as a top 10 pick.

Also, when WCS is playing, he clearly hurts their offense. Dakari Johnson is much better on that side, but he obviously has no clue on D, at least WCS can hold against most low post players and blocks shots. The Harrison twins are overrated at creating off the bounce (also spacings are usually bad, so it’s not easy for them), and Young is their only reliable shooter. They are at their best when they’re able to put pressure on other teams thanks to their athleticism and they clearly have talent, but they lack experience and are a very disfunctional team. They can still put it all together, because they are a lot more athletic and talented than pretty much every other team, but smart teams can clearly exploit their weaknesses.

Kentucky as a championship team is a joke. Cal needs to shake up his lineup. Maybe start Poythress and have Randle play awa from the basket more. It’s funny to think that WCS was once projected to be a top 10 pick. When I watch him he doesn’t even look like a second round pick. his defensive abilities are vastly overrated and he has no game offensively. Randle will leave for the draft and James Young is really there only reliable perimeter scorer. He’s being over looked on this team.

Last nights game made it hard for me to believe that people were ever considering them to go 40-0 and be better than the fab 5. In most of there losses (excluding the Mich St. game) they look like they were better than the other team. That’s a product of coaching. They look ill prepared and have no idea what team defense means.

I do feel like it was insane people thought they were like a preseason number 1 team.

The writing was on the wall that the twins weren’t going to be amazing. I guess maybe we underestimated how bad their two returning guys were going to be, but outside Randle and Young there’s just not much there.
