The Scare Crow RisesParticipantA lot a parallels going on here
1. Big and Versatile F with no outside jump shot who was the concensus #1 pick while in HS (Simmons is Lebron)
2. Silky smooth scorer from a Big Time college who looks like a great #1 pick in any other draft, will always be compared with his F counterpart taken 1 slot above him (Ingram is Carmelo) Although I think Ingram is closer to KD in terms of skillset
3. Next team drafting is already a Playoff team and loaded at the G spots hence passing on superior talent for the appeal of a European Big Man with great size and potential, Boston taking Bender would mirror Detroit taking Darko, there’s even the alphabetical synergy, not saying Bender will bust Ala Darko but there is always great risk in taking Euros at the Top of a Draft (I’ve no choice but to say Bender is Darko)
4. 1 pick later is a Sophomore G with a history of injuries in HS and College with a questionable jump shot, destined to be a better player than most people originally thought he would, could certainly exceed all expectations and make a few All Star games (Kris Dunn is D.Wade)
5. A lacky, athletic freshmen F who can add some weight and extend his range out to the 3 point line in time, seems like a Raw pick at the moment but could reach All Star level in the right Scenario (Chriss is Bosh, lol) I know I may be a little higher on Chriss than most right now, but he’s a jump shot away from being a real threat at the F/C position

TWILL123ParticipantOutside of Darko, not one of the players you listed in this class will ever be half of the player that you compared them to. So, no. This class will be nothing like that draft class.

negguaryParticipantWe have to stop making bold predictions about draft classes whether good or bad before they actually play. You cant make a comment an say a player won’t be half this player or that player. For example, last years draft class was supposed to be very weak, and after a year people are calling it one of the best draft classes. Hence why it is important to not trash or praise a class until they play because you can’t really tell what a player is going to be until they play.

MatosParticipantQuite possibly the most illogical comment I’ve seen on a site that revolves around the speculation and predicitions of the careers of NBA prospects.

The Scare Crow RisesParticipantWould be as good or better than their parallel counterparts
I didn’t once indicate that I felt Simmons would become LBJ 2.0 , I was simply pointing out the obvious similarities in these 2 completely separate Draft Classes
I feel like Roman Reigns right now, no matter what I do or say it’ll be greeted with some form of negativity, I’m not a Bad Guy, I’m not a Good Guy, I’m just Thee Guy…lol
Seriously I didn’t once say Simmons will be as good as LBJ, Never said Ingram will be better than Melo or KD (said he has a similar skillset) never assumed Bender would pull a Darko, just that there is risk and Boston would be passing on a Better prospect due to fit, never said Dunn would be a Hall of Famer like Wade, simply that he can surpass our expectations and make an All Star Game, I didn’t put Chriss in Bosh’s stratosphere I simply pointed out their similar rises up the Draft Boards and Chriss’ obvious 2 way potential

ItsVictorOladipoParticipantI’m not sure if I’m misunderstanding your first post but you do remember that Melo went #3 so Lebron wasn’t take "1 slot above him".
Detroit had the #2 pick.

ItsVictorOladipoParticipantAlso Detroit didn’t pass on a better prospect due to fit. They may have been stacked at guard but Melo would have been a great fit for them, forward was their weakness. Tayshaun Prince was coming off a solid rookie season breakthrough in the playoffs but was hardly entrenched long term. Cliff Robinson had been their top forward but he was 36 years old and they were looking to upgrade (and would trade him in the offseason for a utility guard). They wouldn’t trade for Rasheed until midway through the 2004 season.
Darko wasn’t a matter of positional fit for them, he was just viewed as having an incredibly high ceiling and Detroit gambled.

Hype MachineIn 2016, everyone has an opinion. Theres a million experts who all want to put their own twist on the draft.
Some go with the grain, others stray from popular opinion.
But make no mistake..Ben Simmons is going to do things on an NBA court that will turn his team into a pure excitement machine.
Those season tickets are a good investment.
Hes damn near Magic Johnson, and thats the type of MVP level play I expect from him as a prospect who comes around only once or twice a decade.

MatosParticipantMelo won the championship as a freshman college and there was way more hype surrounding him and Lebron. Detroit picked number 2 also. They dropped the ball on not scooping up Melo. Celtics won’t even have an opportunity at said ball since they pick three. And I agree with TWILL – none of the guys (with the exception of Bender) will reach the status of any of the 4 superstars from the 03 draft.

MatosParticipantExcuse me but I think thats what we’re all doing. Speculating what prospects can do. That’s why we’re all here. We read up on players, watch their games and make predictions on how well they will play upon entering the NBA. You seem a little upset at this practice. I guess you’re not on the right site then.

negguaryParticipantjust tired of people stating thing like facts, for example, using words such as never, guarantee, best of all time before they step on a court…then when they pan out or are better we have convenient amnesia like we never made these bold comments’.
