DolanCareParticipantTristan Thompson got overpaid because the Cavs were scared to let a quality player walk while they’re all-in for a championship. 5 years for $14 mill is quite generous for someone who rebounds and does solid pick and roll defense.
Is it possible, or would it damage the Cavs image, if they traded Thompson? In my view, he held out on the team like an NFL player in a do-or-die season… it’s not like the owe the guy.
Plus, this Cleveland team is bare at the wing positions. The JR Smith/Shump duo was cute last season, but I just don’t think that is something you can hang your hat on deep in the playoffs.
Thompson’s contract won’t let him be moved until the new year, but once that happens should the Cavs trade him for some wing play? I think this should be a strong consideration- what does the forum think?

Tap892ParticipantBetween Irving, Williams, delly, shump, smith, and Jefferson they have got plenty of wing depth. They have been plagued with injury, but when at least most the team is health, they’ll be one of the deeper teams in the league. As far as Thompson, they overpaid, but they are all in for the season, and he gives them a lot of energy when he comes in the game.

trombonematrix43ParticipantLeBron had on IG to get Thompson signed. The dude is one of LeBron’s friends. I doubt moving him will go over well and I think part of the reason they caved and gave him that offer is because LeBron wanted the deal done.

Snubs15ParticipantThompson is a proven player and could start on half the teams in the League. I’d say it’s a solid deal especially considering the salary cap is going up roughly $20 mill each of the next two years.
The raptors just signed Terrence Ross to a 3 year $33 million contract for a comparison.
Not a bad deal at all imo.

tuck243ParticipantEspecially since they signed Kevin Love to a max contract… It wasn’t a great idea to sign V either… Now you have 2 hustle guys coming off your bench and neither is better than Noah & Gibson, yet they make more than both. I don’t understand that when you have a max guy as your starting PF? To top it all off, the only guy between the 4 big men on the team that’s able to protect the basket is due for a new contract next season. How are they going to pay Mozgov? The hell with what LeBron wants… Let someone else pay Tristan. Without LeBron he was the same player he is now. He didn’t improve anything about his game. I just don’t understand the amount of love he recieves.

PulseGlazerParticipantTristan can’t be traded for a certain amount of time after signing a new contract.

tennislegendParticipanti would trade him for carroll hes a good rebounder but 14 million is simply to much to pay for a backup who isnt very good offensively the cavs have by far the deepest team in the league they can stick basically anyone on their team out there and be doing well

tennislegendParticipantcunningham is a huge help with shumpert out the cavs have a great chance at the championship but the need to stop turning the ball over and play better defense if they can do that they will be the favorite

HitsterParticipantI doubt very much TT gets traded unless the Cavs got a great offer. LBJ and Kyrie like him and when you compare his deal to the likes of Enes Kanter, it’s certainly a fair deal.
