RUDEBOY_ParticipantI remember a few years ago when the great jokester Shaq proclaimed Chris Bosh was the Rupaul of the nba..Alot people have said Bosh is soft..His style of play isnt soft at all..There are times when he shoots the jumper becuz his man is playing off him..And the rest of the defense has clogged the lane..Bosh then can shoot it,drive or pass it..I wouldnt consider him soft becuz he attacks the basket and despite his rail thin body he’s not afraid of contact..He seems too polite..Bosh just isnt a bruiser..Remember when Gasol was in Memphis? He got the same soft label, now people are saying he’s the nba’s best power forward..You rarely hear the word soft mentioned when folks talk about Gasol..And nothing has changed about Gasol game, except now he gets physical with players that get physical with him….People say Bosh is too skinny to be physical …Garnett has been a great defender for years his built is similar to Bosh’s except Garnett plays with a mean streak…Garnett has proved that you dont have to be a wide body to be physical..Something Bosh will need to do if the Heat expect to win a ring..

mikeyvthedonParticipantShaq referred to him I believe as "The RuPaul of Big Men", and while it was funny, I do not think that it is necessarily true. Last year, when Bosh bulked up big time, it definitely was not, though I think it was better for his mobility and to prevent injuries that he lost that initial weight. The biggest thing with Bosh that many have pointed out is that he has little to no post game. The guy is a solid shooter out to 15-18, sometimes he is just buckets on any given night, but the common complaint is, for a guy who plays 4/5, why does he not work on taking advantage of his length and speed in the post? It would be very beneficial for him to work on this aspect of his game, because it might allow the Heat to spread the floor that much more, and would mean Bosh might provide a different look on offense for a team that could become possibly predictable. Plus, Bosh’s defensive instensity has been questioned, he is not really a great shot blocker or low post defender, surely not in the category of Kevin Garnett as far as that goes. But, he is a very good offensive rebounder, and he is not a liability on the glass as a whole, which is more than can be said about quite a few PF’s. Amare Stoudemire plays with more wreckless abandon on offense, but I would still go with Bosh’s intensity on defense and the glass. LaMarcus Aldridge is also fairly similar to Bosh/Stoudemire, though even softer at both ends of the floor, and you find him taking shots much further away from the basket. At times I have seen Bosh be very agressive, I remember a game where he put up 43 on Dwight Howard (though Howard had 39, the Raptors still won the game), but it is not a consistent thing. He seems to want to avoid playing Center and guarding bigger players, which is something his team could really use honestly. Him playing the 5 must be completely draining defensively, that is why so few marquee big guys near that 7 foot plateau usually would rather play 4. But, if Bosh would take that responsibility, as hard as it might be, Miami would more than likely benefit greatly, and have its best possible line-up on the floor and allow Udonis Haslem the ability to play his rugged D on the leagues top PF’s. While Dwight Howard would seemingly fall into the category of guys who would more classically be asked to be PF’s, his combination of strength and athleticism have given him the ability to not only play Center, but excel to the best at the position in the league. But, Chris Bosh at best is probably about 35-40 pounds lighter than Dwight. I do not care how strong you are for your weight, if you guard that all game, it tires you out and takes you off your game. I mean, wonder why Shaq was so damn dominant? So, Shaq was probably pointing to Bosh’s not really wanting to step up to the duty that would be best for his team, hence Bargnani, a player who all in all, should never play Center, being the starting 5 for the Raps and now undersized but tough Joel Anthony guarding 5’s to start the 1st and 3rd. Shaq constantly makes fun of slighter players and marks them as soft, but when you are as big as he is, and as dominant as he was, I guess you can. Meanwhile, Chrish Bosh may not be "the RuPaul of Big Men", but it still is something that should motivate him to a higher level of intensity rather than be something he just laughs off.

llperezI dont take too much of what shaq says seriously. I have always said bosh was a little overrated though. I assume we will see bosh play tougher. Going into the playoffs with expectations and teammates who expect you to step up and deliver will only help him with any toughness issues.

mikeyvthedonParticipantI try, but sometimes it just happens the way I wrote it works without them. But spacing does seem to help on this forum, so I feel you.

OhCanada-ParticipantNow that he plays in the states you guys can see what us Raptors fans have been saying for years. He isnt soft at all. He is not strong, but strong is associated with strength not toughness, and effort. Bosh has always been amongst the league leaders in FT attempts. Bosh takes a large amount of charges, and sacrafices his body for the better of his team. He is honestly a workhorse but because bigger frontcourt players can push him around at times, like Dwight Howard and other premier frontcourt rebounders and post players, he loses respect. Now that your watching him in Miami you get to see him more, you can tell he isnt soft.

JoeWolf1I don’t think Bosh is soft, I just don’t what his deal is this season.
The "soft" label is thrown around too much I remember when David Robinson got that knock and threw down for like 40 and 20 in a playoff win. This was post MVP and 71 points in a game D-Rob, the D-Rob who at the time had never averaged under 10 rpg, and it was only because he was a nice guy. He won 2 rings and no one has called him soft since. Some guys actually are soft, but most of the guys who get that label are just nice guys or finnese rebounders.
