Memphis MadnessParticipantIs Amare Stoudemire a center? I am planning on doing a Top 50 Center list and I was wondering if I should list Amare as a center. He played center on the Suns but he is a power forward on the Knicks even though he is their inside presence. On international teams it seems like he played both positions.
I am leaning to putting Amare as a center since he mostly played center for the Suns.
Thanks for your help!

WizardofOzParticipantI would say he’s a center. He played mostly center for the Suns. He only played PF for them when Shaq came. And I believe he played mostly center with the Knicks last season.

theTKOshowParticipantI’d say power forward is his best position. hes only played centre because of his teams lacking any other options. in phoenix they played small with marion being the pf. the reason they brought shaq in was to let amare slide back to his natural pf position. same thing happened this year as they tried mozgov and turiaf at centre so he could play pf but because of injuries and ineffectiveness he had to slide back down

PureshooterParticipantI’d classify Amare as a PF. If he’s on a team with a serviceable Center he usually plays PF, he’s only a Center out of necessity.

Memphis MadnessParticipantThere have been a few undersized centers who played center such as Wes Unseld and Dave Cowens.
I will do more research.

JNixonParticipantHe’s much more of a PF than he is a C.

TallmanNYCParticipantPureshooter got it right. He can play center, but if a team has another legit NBA caliber center on their roster, then Amare will play power forward. Heck, the Knicks play him at power forward even when they only have journeyman undersized centers to start along with him.

nba00ParticipantAmare’s skills are more of a PF than center, but he can play both very well.
