llperezSince there have been rumors of him looking to get traded and im sure we will continue to bring up possible trades on here, I want to ask about one thing that has been getting mentioned a lot. It seems every hypothetical trade involoving paul has them getting a pg back. I’ve heard jameer Nelson as the main piece, ive heard andre miller if he goes to portland. Ive even heard raymond felton and devin harris get thrown in there all as one of the main drawing points for any CP3 trade. But dont you guys think that if the hornets trade Paul, they will want to give Darren Collison, who really shined last year when given minutes and was arguably theri team mvp when paul was out, first crack at runnig the team? Dont you think they would want a package that centered around other positions instead of bringing in a guy who plays pg and would still leave them with a dillema at pg?

sammybuckeye13ParticipantTotally agree. I don’t think people understand how good Collison really is. I can only say that seeing him play, I was ASTONISHED by how good he is. As a starter his rookie numbers were actually better than Paul’s. I’m not saying Collison’s a better player, obviously, but check this out:
Chris Paul (rookie campaign): 16.1 ppg 7.8 apg 2.2 spg 43% FG
Collison (43 games as starter): 18.8 ppg 9.1 apg 1.4 spg 48.5% FGWhat this team really needs – what Paul has always had to play without – is a good swingman. If I’m running the Hornets, forget teams like the Nets and Knicks. A swingman is what they need to go after. Using Collison and future picks they could easily net a very productive swingman, and it wouldn’t come at much cost at all considering Collison is expendable. However, they would have to give more salary along with Collison because they’re over the cap and Collison is still on a cheap rookie deal. I know that they really want to include Okafor, but they couldn’t get a good center back in order to get this player I think they need, and I think OKafor should be at least give another shot, he’s one of the only players in the last 15 years to average a double-double each of his first 5 years in the league, and actually still came close last year. Here’s one idea, one deal that I would be considering trying to push through if I’m NO:
NO gets:
Stephen JacksonCharlotte gets
Darren Collison and James PoseyJackson would be a perfect fit in NO. He’s proven the be something of a healer for struggling teams and he’s in his prime, averaged career high 21.1 ppg in 72 games for Charlotte last year. Keep in mind, Thornton is also an absolute menace, averaged 19.8 ppg as a starter last year. NO would then finally have the versatile, experienced scoring wing that they need. Lineup:
Chris Paul
Marcus Thornton
Stephen Jackson
David West
Emeka OkaforThe Bobcats are one of, what, 2 teams in the league that don’t have a franchise point guard? They’re not winning a title with Jax, Collison would be a great fit there and Posey would provide additional great leadership.

llpereznot bad. Charlotte would get their pg they need and new orleans would become contenders with jackson i think. Only thing is, i would have to try and make sure paul is on board for the long haul if im orleans before making that deal becasue if paul walks in 2 years, then im left with an old steven jackson while collison is possibly a top 10 pg for another team.
