ProudGrandpaParticipantSo, I’ve finally reached that point. After growing up watching athletes on TV who were much older than me and, in my mind, "adults", I’m now watching players whom I’m older than and these are the guys who aren’t going anywhwere from the spotlight, guys like Wiggins and Parker and Aaron Gordon and Dante Exum. It’s just weird to think about how my high school graduating class is taking the basketball world by storm and that I’ve suddenly gotten to the point where I’m as old as the athletes I watch. Maybe you older guys know what I’m saying or maybe I’m just crazy.

mbunner23ParticipantNo I do it all the time. I use to look up to these players and then all of a sudden you’re the same age or older. Weird concept to grasp.

mikeyvthedonParticipantThat is when it happened. Guess I took it in stride and did not care too much, still is a bit crazy. Melo is a few weeks older than me, but LeBron James is younger. I was on a program called Semester at Sea and was at sea when the 2003 Draft went down. When we got to Honolulu, we were at the Aloha Tower and there was a shop that sold jerseys. Bought the LeBron wine colored Cleveland joint and thus began the era of being fans of people I was suddenly older than.

Ebown5ParticipantI remember this feeling very well, but for me it was in about 1995 when players like Stackhouse and Rasheed Wallace were about my age. I didn’t really feel old at that time, but when they got to be about 32 or 33 it was pretty weird to hear people refer to them as having lost a step. Lol
If you really want to feel old, wait until you are my current age of 39 where someone like Steve Nash is the oldest player in the league and he is only a few months older than me.

TheArtistPaysthePriceParticipantI’m like 3 years older than him and to this day I will never wear his shoes, even at an outlet mall 60% off. I can’t buy a guys shoes younger than me, not even to workout.

TyroberParticipantI know exactly what you are saying. A few years ago we were the same age and now I’m 24. Time flies.

ChrispyParticipantDarius Miles. I remember thinking, "How am I older than a millionaire draft-pick? He’s worth millions and I’m still trying to make a college team. Bastard!". Well, I got the last laugh. I graduated in 7 years without ever getting a college ball minute and he made millions… wait a minute, doesn’t sound like I won that won after all.

AmiableBaller34ParticipantFor me it was Derrick Favors. He was the first player who was younger than me that I saw drafted. I had always respected the game of NBA players, but it was at this time that I started to follow prospects and college basketball a lot more, because even though the kids were younger than myself, they would kill me on the court. Really puts into perspective how good some of these guys are.

Dale WorthingtonParticipantI distinctly remember experiencing this in 1977 when Bernard King was drafted by the Nets. I was 23 and, for the first time, cheering on a pro who was younger than me. Those were the days.

Tongue-Out-Like-23ParticipantFor me, it was when I was finally able to put my actual age on NBA Live/2k.
Now it’s just weird when I create a player and make him the youngest possible and I have to put 1994. I feel so old.

3.Seeing Pistol Pete play..
4.I remember my older brother and his friends calling the local tv station, trying to find out if the 1981 NCAA Title Game would be cancelled, becuz President Reagan was shot earlier in the day..

NickWayne87Participantbefore he was drafted he was in high school and still a prospect and already being dubbed the NEXT lebron james he’s my age 2 months younger I think…lebron had only beein the league a year maybe…might’ve even been his rookie year….it was weird that he was 2 months younger than me but 2 GRADES behind me lol. But this was when I was like wow, my age group is getting up there. I didn’t really have the ephiffany that you’re having until the 90s babies started getting in the league…like jure and demarcus cousins i was like holy shit. I always viewed anyone born in the 90s as SUPER young throughout my high school days….as babies lol. I remember watching guys like mateen cleaves and shane battier in college when i was like 13 and they were like men to me. Nowadays the college players look like little boys….someone like MCW who’s a rookie now looks like a kid to me and i’m not really THAT much older than him. I’m 26 and he’s what 21? People nowdays look up to Drose who’s a year younger than me and it’s weird that i used to look up to these guys and now they’re my peers. I remember when allen iverson was 25 and now i’m older than that lol……..
sorry for the ramble….the bottom line is I FEEL WHERE YOU’RE COMING FROM lol
