 A bit like a Daniel Orton type of decision – flashed some potential on a very good team and decided to bolt with the rest of the guys. Hopefully will turn out better than Orton.

Even if he becomes a lot better, it will probably be after his rookie contract is up, I’d take him only if he was interested in staying with my team in the long-term.

 Does anybody close to the team have information on why he made this decision. Is he struggling with schoolwork or contemplating transfering? This doesnt seem like the greatest basketball decision especially after seeing a very similar prospect Deyonta Davis slip in last years draft. I like him as a prospect just like I liked Davis and think he has lottery talent but he is a high risk pick as well and doesnt provide much offensively.

 Davis was a potential lottery pick that killed himself by being miserable in team interviews. If Anigbogu avoids that, he should be fine; I’m guessing he goes in the 20-30 range.

 Davis had a foot injury too if I’m not mistaken. I would imagine that was equally as important as anything he could have said during interviews.

 I can see the logic in him giving it a whirl this year, there are a lot more top bigs in next year’s draft in the freshman intake so he’d immediately be behind them. So this year he’s probably hoping to get in the mix of big men in the mid to late first round of the draft.

The risk is even if he might not go higher next year, he may be more NBA ready in team’s minds.

But as said above, he may be a work in  progress whenever he declares.

 Do you guys pick Anigbogu ahead of Adebayo?

Depends. If you’re in need of an immediate contributor, you absolutely take Adebayo first. Anigbogu is an entire year younger, though, and may have a higher ceiling. I could see a team Utah, San Antonio or even Toronto taking a flyer on him, as they’re set in their frontcourts and have time to let a young big man develop.

 I think your mistaking Ike Anigbogu for OG Anunoby and Jerian Grant for Jerami Grant.

I think he is making a good decision.  He is a big-time rim protector and rebounder.  He plays gritty D, and seems to enjoy banging for rebounds.  Offensively he’s raw but he will pick that up.  Right now, I see him as mid to late first round based on defensive/rim protector status, and upside.  I am a huge believer in coming out if your are projected as a first rounder.  To me, there is way too much risk involved in staying another year to move up a few spots.  If he stays in school, he could get injured, not improve, get worse, lose his draft buzz, etc.  I am totally, 100%, against staying in college if you are a first round guy and I definitely see IA as a first round pick.  In my view, he is absolutely doing the right thing and he should have no regrets.

I agree good decision. He has hype and raw potential in his favor and there’s no guarantee he carries that with him if he sticks around another year. Plus his style of game is hard to translate in college playing alongside another center in Thomas welsh. Not too many college can play two big centers who struggle guarding perimeter guys meaning anigbogu wouldn’t have been promised a starting spot or lots of minutes with welsh also there. Ike is legit, not only is he big, but he runs the court well, has good hops and dunks while he’s still on his way up.

 Ike’s people have been told that he is getting looks in the 18-34 range and that there is definite interest in him. I have him going 22nd to Brooklyn but I can see him going as high as 16th to Chicago and as low as mid second round. I don’t know about you guys but I get slight Hot Rod vibes from this kid.
