But I’d say Michael Kidd-Gilchrist, they played in high school together, they both love winning more than anything else and Irving and MKG will be the leaders of that franchise so ideally you want 2 guys with strong leadership abilities especially for their ages

Thompson and Varejoa is a strong defensive frontcourt, add MKG at the 3 and maybe throw max money at EJ and boom you have your core

I hated that tristan thompson pick…it was one of the headscratchers of last years draft, i would have traded down instead of reaching for Thompson. And why did they trade JJ Hickson again?

With that being said Cavs should draft Thomas Robinson or MKG. But they need a lot of help on that team so they should take flyers on some young free agent wings with potential (Batum, Jeff Green, Mike Beasley?). A good backcourt mate would have been great but Beal is too small and Lamb isnt enough of a dominant scorer.

Harrison and Beal looks like the right choices unless they win the lottery.  I think Drummonds has a case because you can never have too much size.  They already have a pf so whey would they take another one.  Robinson is not a high enough upgrade over Thompson to do that.  Varejao needs a bk or replacement.  Cavs could use a sg or sf.  It would help if they got someone that has a perimeter game to open up lanes for Irving.

cominup, I think you just stated why Cleveland should seriously consider taking either Beal or Lamb. Both are guards who don’t need the ball in their hands, and it makes them a great compliment to Kyrie. They are both very good shooters too, so they could spread the floor for Kyrie to get to the bucket.

Beal is 6’4”, I don’t see how he’s not "tall enough."

Beal is 6’4" but he is said to be build like Eric Gordon.  I personally don’t know much about him except for a video I saw of him and he looks stocky with long arms so I am sure he can play the position and play it well.  He may have also been hurt by some of the guards he played with at Florida.

 I would pair him with the best player available.  Not trying to be sarcastic.  If its a guy like Davis or Drummond, their defense would be a good fast break starter….that would help Kyrie alot.  If its Barnes or another deadly wing who can shoot a high percentage or is a good finisher that would help him as well.  For a guy like Kyrie, its probably best to get the most fluid scorer next to him so he doesnt have to carry the bulk of the scoring and can focus on being a good PG.  I go with the top big guys or Barnes/Lamb and Beal after them.

 They need a non ball dominant guard or forward that can shoot the perimeter shot. Beal, Barnes, or Drummond (to back up Varajao and eventually replace him) would be the ideal picks depending on where they are slotted to pick. I would pick Beal because if you can have two great guards moving forward, you’re pretty set in the scoring department and can work on building around those two players with defensive interior players with a team first mindset. Something that we’ve seen a lot of teams be successful with.

outside of Anthony Davis then I would g wing player. I would take Thomas Robinson but there was an article on another site that stated that though people think PG should team with a C or PF,a wing player wins more games with the elite PG

There could be a case made for many players because the Cavs don’t really have many strengths besides Kyrie and Thompson
Drummond- Need to get rid of Varejao because of contract and injuries and Drummond has massive potential
Beal- probably the most logical choice, would create a backcourt for many years and isn’t ball dominant
Lamb- another good choice and can play the 2 or 3 because of his length
Barnes- good shooter than can spot up on fast breaks and Kyrie will help get the ball to him like Marshall did at UNC

Quality wings are so hard to come by I think they should go with someone who would be the perfect compliment to Kyrie, beat it MKG, Beal or Lamb. I would take the first two over Drummond.

CAVS will not win one before Lebron.  Let’s get that foolishness out of the way.  I like Davis but he is no Shaquille O’Neal and it took Shaq a while to get it.  Also it takes most young teams 3 or so year to click like they should.  Like at Bulls and OKC  as references. 

 

I am not even saying this as a Lebron fan but you have to be realistic.  I think Cavs are doing a pretty good job after Lebron but that is because they are actually planning their move instead of making the dumb small moves they made while Lebron was here.  Also by sucking, they get better draft spots.

I love how they are getting hungry D league players though.  That to me is the only thing that has changed.  They have yet to get any top free agents.  Building in the draft takes time.  Also there are a lot of young teams that have had time to gel like Chi town.  Miami guys are in their primes.  New York could be a dark horse with Melo also in his prime.  Atlanta could be scary if they can stay healthy and shore up their bench.  Indy is starting to take off.  That Bucks move this year will pay big dividends next year.

Philly could finally make that Iggy trade and pick up some pieces that put them over the top.  If this Orlando thing works out in everyone’s favor than they will be dangerous too.  Also do not underestimate the prescence of NENE on Washington youth that actually want to play hard.  A lot of the lazy players will be moved.  This team could vault up because they have tons of talent and a large expiring contract. If they can somehow move Blatche and it may take a draft pick to do it, they can be scary. 

 

All that to say Cleveland will be good in a few years but they have a lot of teams to climb that can be just as good and until Cavs start getting good free agents and keeping their own, don’t hold your breathe
