Scottoant93ParticipantIf you were a top high school recruit with nba potential would you
1. Commit to a high profile team such as UNC,Duke, Unconn,Kentucky, etc and get limited minutes as a backup, and wait til your opportunity to start
or
2. Commit to a low to mid profile team and start right away, put your team on map, and set your own path.
The reason i am asking this is because I see a lot of top recruits go to big programs and find out they dont fit in their system and make the mistake of leaving school to go pro and they either go undrafted or quickly disappear.

Da1potParticipantWhat I would do
3. Commit to the team that offered me the most incentives, money and under-the-table benefits. This is what a lot of recruits seem to be doing.

kdtriv01ParticipantTop recruits get big minutes at UK. I understand what you’re saying, but that is not necessarily the case will all big time schools. With so many one and dones at UK, big time recruits get the best of both worlds: Big time program (national TV exposure) and a lot of playing time.

I May Be WrongParticipantI’d choose option 2. I know why people choose option 1 if they are guaranteed minutes and playing for a program like Duke or UK helps your chances of making the NBA better. But just from my point of view as a fan, it’s kind of magical to see a player carry a team on their back and absolutely kill it in college. I’ll use Steph Curry for example. He may have been over looked but I think if he wanted to come off the bench at say a Duke or UNC, he probably would have won a championship but I’d just look at him as just another player. Instead, he went to Davidson, played 31 mins a game as a freshman and averaged 21 ppg. By his junior year, he had people talking and then he played superb that season and was absolutely one of THE players to watch. I’m just amazed at how players like Steph Curry or Jimmer can carry a team on their back in college. Sure, they didn’t win but their college legacies will live on forever IMO.

PlatypusParticipant4. Play for my hometown school and put them on top.
Example, someone lives in Detroit and plays for U of M

DunksNJordans23ParticipantJon Hood also comes to mind, he was a 4 star recruit and has gotten such limited playing time.

Cardinal_FanParticipantIf i was predicted to be a lottery pick i’d play with some guys who are also being considered that type of talent in a system that would hide my flaws as much as possible while also putting up the numbers to keep my stock high. UK or Ohio St. comes to mind.

Troc73ParticipantGo to a school that fits your skill set style of play and can offer pt sooner than later. Forget the bench, I wanna play.

rwd5035ParticipantI’m expecting to get negative points for this, but I’d pick option #2. Ever since I was four years old I have gone up to Penn State football games. I went to a couple of basketball games, but if I was a big time recruit, I would have went to PSU 100% of the time. I was the third generation of my family to graduate there, and I would have went there regardless if I was an athlete, or not.
