I don’t know about you guys, but I’m Rubio’d out. I could care less if he comes or not. With that said, I take Kyrie first overall (if we haven’t heard from Rubio).

    Thoughts?

Take Irving 1st overall, its the safe route. Ifs are not solid. You could say "if" RUbio comes over, and "if" they can trade Beasley then Derrick Williams is the better fit. The fact is "if" they draft Kyrie Irving they will have a very large trade asset available going into the new CBA, and "when" teams like the Girzzlies overspend way too much, and have to trade off valueable assets they will be in a prime position to acquire said asset. COuGh couGH RuDy GAy…CougHH Cough For  IrVINg and BEaslEy.

I’m with you. I say take Irving no matter what. Even if Rubio is here and signed before the draft. Because, like you said, we than have 2 huge trade assets (Rubio and Irving). Than, the question becomes, would you rather trade Rubio or Irving? Or, do you keep both? I like your idea of trading for Gay, but I would rather keep Kyrie (mainly because I have actaully seen him play).

Whichever one has higher value on the market when you talk to teams.  If it is relatively even, then trade Rubio b/c you would have to pay a buyout to bring him over.

I agree M-Dymes. And, like I said, we have seen Kyrie play. Also, this team needs a leader at PG, I don’t see Rubio being that. He seems way to shy to get into a players face and say, "what are you doing? You need to roll!". I don’t see Kyrie having that problem at all. He came into duke as a freshman and lead by example until he was hurt.

I think the Grizz wouldnt be in a psition to choose, if the CBA gets bad enough. Also Im sure Rubio would behappy playing with Gasol so it all works out either way.

Rubio and Beasley for Mayo and Gay. Maybe throw in a couple pieces like draft picks or something since Gay is proven.

    Canada-

I wouldn’t mind that deal at all, except, where do we put Love? Do we just run Kyrie, Mayo, Wes, Gay, Love? Sounds like a team I would try to run out in 2k. So, I wouldn’t have a problem with it. Just run and gun.

and I got the first pick I would try to trade down and see if I could get a second first round pick or even an impact player.  There are plenty of teams that would love to jump at the chance to take Kyrie or if they are that enamored with Kyrie try and trade Rubio for another pick.  Either way I say trade the pick or trade Rubio.  Hell, keep Rubio and get rid of Flynn but for crying out loud Kahn make a smart decision.

No way I draft Derrick Williams though.  I’d rather take my chances with having all three of those PG’s on my roster than draft another SF/PF combo.  I think B-easy is going to continue to grow and become a fairly decent player in this league and with a core of Love/Beasley/Kyrie that’s not half bad especially considering how awful the Wolves have been these last few years.

    Clayton-

I agree on the Williams take. If we do draft him, I believe the writting is on the wall for Beasley. I like the core of Love/Beasley/Kyrie, without a doubt. That is a nice young Big 3, now we would just need some defense. What veterans are out there that could play center and the 2 that can just focus on D?

There’s no question over who they should take- Irving, no doubt. Common sense dictates you take the proven commodity (Irving) who has potential to be one of the league’s elite PG’s at a position of serious need over a player who is the same position as 5 of your rostered players But, the Wolves don’t operate on common sense. I bet they take Williams, despite the fact that they have Beasley, Johnson, Webster, Randolph, and Lazar Hayward who can play the SF. It’s the Kahn Way, haha

    FireKahn,

Irving is far from a proven commodity.  You are never a proven commodity until you show that level of talent on an NBA floor.  The NBA is an entirely different game than college ball.  Every prospect has some level of risk.  No one is a proven commodity.

And isn’t the Kahn way to take a PG?  No matter what the Wolves do, they are in a situation when someone will criticize them.  They need D and you could argue that they should take Williams then given his defensive player, particularly in the tourney.  Then you have people arguing that Rubio is not the answer at PG and they need to address PG.  Then you have the people who think they will be fine at PG and they are set at forward positions and therefore they should trade down for a proven player, SG, or trade down and go after Burks.

You can’t please everyone.  Being an NBA GM is alot harder than people on forums across the web try to make it seem.  Everyone calls people who make a few mistakes a moron.  People who do well in fantasy ball end up thinking they would be the answer as a GM.  Lets see how successful you would be playing with house money where there are a few more constraints than in fantasy ball.

If they get the No. 2 pick, the choice, to me, isn’t clearly just whichever guy between Williams and Irving isn’t taken at No. 1. It’s not that easy. Look at some of the last few No. 2 overall selections:

Turner (with Cousins, Monroe, W. Johnson still available), Thabeet (with Evans and Curry still available), Beasley (with Westbrook, Love, Eric Gordon still available), Marvin Williams (with CP3 and Deron Williams still available), Okafor (with Iguodala, Al Jefferson and others still available), etc.

This year, maybe Williams and Irving are the clear-cut best two prospects. But we don’t know. There might be someone in the 6-12ish range that will end being the second-best player in this class. Maybe Kanter will turn out to be an absolute monster. Maybe Alec Burks is a 6-6 version of Kevin Durant. Maybe Jimmer will average 22 points a game as a rookie. I don’t know. But recent history sure seems to indicate that the No. 2 pick is very hit-or-miss!

I truly think that if Minny gets one of the top 2 picks. They will trade the pick. This might be the first time where we see the #1 pick being traded. Can’t wait to just sit and laugh at Minny when they do this. The smart thing to do would be, draft Irving and trade Rubio’s rights and Flynn immediately, but we know Kahn won’t do that because he is in love with Rubio. Instead he would trade the first pick for probably 2 or 3 slots down and select either Jan Vesely or Enes Kanter.

I would be sick to my stomach if that happens. But, I could see where Kahn is in a rock and a hard place. Drafting another PG will get him ripped, but this PG might be the best of all the ones they have aguired since being here.

and keep Irving.  Of course, if Rubio turns out to be better then Kyrie, he will get ripped later, but IMO, Rubio is not better then Irving.

What do we think we can get for Rubio? Anyone know? I liked the idea of Rudy Gay or even Granger. But, we would have to package something to make that happen.

    1. Fire Khan

    2. Exile Khan from the country.

    3. Cut of all his access to anything regrding the NBA

    (Repeat with McHale)

seriously, I think that they should trade the pick for good pieces, beccause, believe or not, they are 4 solid pieces away from being a playoff team (meaning 7,8 seed). I say they ship the pick to Portland for Andre Miller, and either Whatever-Brandon-Roy’s-knees-have-left, or some sign and trade manuever for Oden. It sounds crazy, but wouldn’t Portland be salivating at the idea of geting a potential All star for an old guy and a guy they probably  dont want. Option 2 would be pick whoever everybody thinks they should pick, best way to avoid criticism.
