Drafting him would also fill a need at small forward

It’s the Bobcats.  They would fill a need no matter what position they pick (Except maybe PG)

I’d take Harrison for the Home field advantage. Drafting him would also fill a need at small forward, killing two birds with one stone.

I would take Barnes because the Bobcats need a scorer and a franchise player. I think Barnes has more potential as a face of the franchise type of guy than Anthony Davis. Kemba isnt that good at scoring, hes a nice player but he isnt a guy you look at and say "we got Kemba, scoring is all taken care of, now we need role players" He’s a role player. His role should be instant offense off the bench.

Jordan has to love the way Barnes plays, though he may not because he is a terrible gm, not to mention he drafted a guy really similair to Anthony Davis last year in Biyombo.

I’d take Anthony Davis for many of the above reasons. Kemba is going to shoot the ball, and score. He will get his assists and pass the ball around, but he will score and is the face of the franchise. Anthony Davis brings a defensive impact that Charlotte doesn’t have, and he can rebound. All of the times Kemba will miss, Davis will clean it up, and score 50% of his points off of putbacks.

If say the Hornets got the 2nd pick, I’d organise a trade where Bobcats take Davis, and trade him for Barnes (Hornets take with the second pick), Chris Kaman and Xavier Henry.

Hornets get a defensive monster to pair with Okafur and the first overall pick, whereas the Bobcats get a great defender at the 2 in Henry, a scoring big to pair with Biyombo in Kaman and fill a need at SF with Barnes.

Davis is probably going to be a great player, but Barnes represents a unique opportunity for Jordan to gain widespread support for the Bobcats and also a chance at keeping the player throughout his career. Also, Bobcats are desperate for scoring, and while I like Kemba’s leadership, he’s not going to thrive if he’s the first option, he need to be at least second, and preferably 3rd option.

Kemba, Henry, Barnes, Biyombo form the core of what could be a great team, that’s four lottery picks who each bring something different to the table (leadership, perimeter D, scoring/clutchness, shot-blocking) and would complement each other.

    Thoughts?

Hold up the question is "if your Michael Jordan who do you take?" if I’m Michael Jordan I will probably take whoever has the most bust potential. I agree that Anthony Davis should be taken first. But I would not be surprised at all if MJ took somebody else

Barnes makes a ton of sense – if the Bobcats are picking 3rd or 4th.

You definitely take Davis with the 1st. Him and Biyombo could be a devastating defensive tandem, and with Mullens emerging as an offensive weapon, that could be a nice trio of bigs.

    If Bobcats want to:

Improve defensively – draft Anthony Davis, he’s a franchise player kinda remind me of KG

All out offensive – draft Jeremy Lamb or Austin Rivers, all they do is shoot

Add versatility – draft Harrison Barnes, he can play multiple positions

Add a Locker room guy- draft Michael Kidd-Gilchrist, amazing work ethic and good character

Have a player with high potential – draft Andre Drummond, has yet to reach it

A guy who could contribute right away – Jarred Sullinger or Thomas Robinson, you know what you’re getting from this dudes

Hornets franchise player would be Eric Gordon if they could convince him to stay, combined with Davis. However, they’d obviously work out a deal beforehand to trade the pick, so if NO wanted Drummond they’d take him.

Personally, I think Drummond has more franchise potential than Davis, but the consensus seems to be emerging that Davis is the first overall pick, so that’s likely who Hornets will take.

I would be sh!tty at evaluating talent. I would still think unless Drummond shows a remarkable turnaround in the tourney (if UCONN makes it) then Jordan takes Anthony Davis. Remember the Bobcats are cheap, maybe one of the cheapest franchises in professional sports. I cant remember exactly but they used some loop hole in their first couple seasons to be at like 70 percent the salary cap and tried to be lower but got called on it. When they drafted Emeka Okafor is was rumored that one of the priorities in the decision making process was that he would be easily resignable after his rookie deal was up. Davis at close to his peak is a lower post rookie deal than Drummond at close to his peak.Worse case scenario the Bobcats pick fourth and Davis, Drummond and Barnes are gone. This would put Jordan in a real predictment. The Bobcan’ts would have to make a real personel judgement call. Lamb, Robinson, Sullinger etc. are not sure fire guys. Drummond isnt either but his ceiling is so high that its a safe bet. Imagine if Drummond isnt a healthy Amare/Howard crossbreed and he’s just a bigger smarter less crazy and dysfunctional Demarcus Cousins. Thats pretty good. I would go with Davis though, a piece like him is like having that ure point guard like Irving or Rubio, they make everyone better.

I think Drummond is the obvious pick. He has the NBA body and can only get better. Ant Davis is more if a safe pick but he seems to fraile . But that’s how kd and kg were so it might not make a difference . All in all Andre seems like a easy choice IMO.

There is a Kwame Brown joke in this somewhere

I thought there was a deshawn stevenson joke somewhere in there

BTW you take Anthony Davis, too much potential to pass up on and at worst him and biyombo make a nice defensive frontcourt, and Davis might turn out to be a better offensive player then he shows…he is on a talented kentucky team, so his role is to focus on defensive more then offense

I think MJ just needs to avoid selecting a big man this time around. You know what you’re getting with wings a bit more, and MJ would be able to personally mentor a guy like Barnes better than Davis.

I know there’s the Morrison outlier, but Barnes doesn’t have the same question marks that Morrison had/has and would be the best move forward in my opinion.

You and I are beating a dead horse on this one, but I think Davis has his own big question marks, if he were able to score at a franchise calibre level in the NBA he’d had more plays run for him in college. Calipari knows he’s not that great a scorer which is why he doesn’t run plays for him. If he isn’t the go-to guy for a college team (even if it is a talented one) I don’t see why he’d be any different in the NBA.

Just my opinion, I just hope that if I’m right it doesn’t hurt Jordan or the Bobcats.

No I think people making all these who should such and such draft first are beating a dead horse because regardless if Davis would be the best fit or not he’s going to be the first pick.  He’s that good.  Plus he’s so versatile he’ll be able to quickly assimilate into what team draft him.

But as far as your worries about his offense go I dunno how to change that because I’ve already written numerous times that Coach Cal is just teasing us with his full offensive repetoire.  He’s able to do way more things then you’ve saw him do.  Did anybody think you could run an offense through Cousins when he played at Kentucky and that Cousins was such a great passer and had a mid range game?  No because he wasn’t asked to do that.

Monroe is another example did anybody think he would become a go to scorer in the NBA?  No, because his system didn’t ask him too,

Anthony Davis has way more tricks up his sleeve then he’s being allowed to show.  He truly remind me of a young Garnett without all the screaming.  He can control a game from the high post, he’ll start being able to hit them 15-19 footers, he can take his man off the dribble, and he can make passes out the post.  Davis isn’t even averaging a turnover all year.

Who was more important to the Celtics during their finals run Ray Allen, or Garnett?  I know that’s an unfair simily but it serves the purpose of saying I’d rather take the multi faceted big man who can control both sides of the floor then the pure scorer.

A fairer comparison would be Paul Pierce or Garnett, in all fairness, given that he and Barnes are somewhat similar, and Pierce was the Finals MVP.

I just think that as a coach, if you had a player who COULD do more, at a level which would be deemed sufficient at the next level then you’d encourage him to do so. The idea that a coach would hide the offensive abilities of his best player is strange to me.

Also, Davis almost certainly will be the first pick, I’ve come to accept this, because scouts remain in love with big men, but that doesn’t mean he should be the first pick, and it’s perfectly reasonable to have a different opinion and explain why.

I don’t take a BPA stance when it comes to drafting, I think fit is much more important, especially when winning games is essential for retaining high draft picks after their rookie deal.

     If I were Jordan….

I’d say we are too close to being an 8th seed and need to blow the team up and go younger and try to build through the draft…. Again.

In reality, you go Davis no doubt. Biyombo isn’t a sure thing that he will pan out and be even in the worst case scenario, a Ben Wallace type player. But you know what you get with Davis (I see a lot of Tyson Chandler in him when he was playing with CP3 for the Hornets). If both those guys pan out and become good, that defense would be hard to top, add in the improving Mullens and you have a solid three man rotation in the post (which is a winning formula, check Chicago). Offensively, they’d need help because starting Augustine and Walker is not a good idea and both of them are great on the offensive end. Its a matter of who they decide to go with, which will probably be Kemba. Trade DJ and get a decent or good SG, they already have Maggette to fill the void at SF at least for another year… Then you go out in free agency and sign someone at that SF spot and move on with that group slowly adding pieces to the bench. With a lineup of Kemba, Reggie Williams (temporary), Maggette, Davis, Biyombo for one year and then keep building in the next draft… You’re almost looking at a playoff team in only 2-3 years turnaround.

I don’t take the BPA stance either I hate it and can ruin careers like Turner in Philly when Cousins or even Favors were a much better fit.

I just must think of Davis different then you I’m alsmot certain he’s going to become a superstar in the KG mold.  He has more offense then people realize.  He’s not leadin the number one country in scoring cuz he can’t score.  Plus he’s unique and it’s impossible to truly compare him.  Bottom line if I think he’s the best franchise pillar in this draft.  After Barnes recent play he has moved up to 2 on my board again tho.  But even with his scoring I don’t see him having as big an impact on a team as Davis will.

Not gonna lie… He kinda reminds me of Tyson Chandler and KG. Super athletic and mobile/quick. Monster on the defensive end but with a lot of raw potential on offense. If he’s paired with a good PG, he could be scary good too.

@Mr. 19134 I do agree though, he is much more difficult to compare than a lot of the other players in the draft. I just hope he doesn’t turn out to be like Tyrus Thomas…..

I’ll take Davis everyday. He would form a hell of tandem in the frontcourt with Biyombo, who is showing signs of improvement and could be as solid as Wallace. Davis hasn’t showed all he could do offensively because of the way he’s used at kentucky and for me he could turn into a Garnett/Durant combination. Barnes is very solid and a good pick but it’s far easier to find wingmen and even without the draft, you can find solid vets.

I personaly would try to deal that pick for 2 lottery picks : NO and Utah could be interested to take drummond or davis with that number 1.

You could build around walker henderson byombo white mullens and 2 lottery picks like : barnes, lamn, MKG, sullinger. Cause the bobcats need more than 1 quality prospect to improve.

^^^ and this years draft is as good as any to get a couple of good players in the lottery that could turn out to be like 15-18 and 5-7 type players. But the Cats need too many things for it to be fixed in one or even two drafts.

I’d take Barnes. Davis reminds me of Brandan Wright too much, although I do think Davis is more talented (than Wright). As far a Drummond, I haven’t seen anything that warrants #1 pick, plus teams have been burned taking the big man with "upside" instead of the well rounded wing player… Jordan, Durant..

I think the end of that joke is if you are Jordan you take the wrong guy. Whoever the it guy is he will take the other one. This draft to me will end up having lots of fool’s gold in it. Someone like Rivers or Beal could end up being the guy out of this draft just as easy as Davis or Barnes. I like the idea of trading out if possible. Davis looks too close to what you want out of Bismack. I’m sure people will hate it, but I would rather have Sullinger followed by Barnes.

The Bobcats need to take the best guy on the board. Anthony Davis can block shots, run the floor, rebound, and dunk. I think he has the most upside of any guy in the draft. You pair him with another good defensive big man in Biyombo and a nice young offensive center in Mullens and your front court is set. Each of those three guys brings something different to the table.

The Bobcats are doing terribly this year and won’t make the playoffs next year even if they had a prime MJ. They need to rebuild and the best way to do that is to get the best young players available. Then they can go after a young wing player next year to fill out the roster. Maybe Will Barton if he stays. Or Adonis Thomas if he comes back and turns into the player everyone hopes he can be.

I am concerned that Harrison Barnes is more of a Luol Deng or Sean Elliott type than a LeBron or Kevin Durant type. The Bobcats need to find a superstar and I think Anthony Davis has more superstar potential than Harrison Barnes. I also think that Anthony Davis is the kind of guy who can get out with Kemba Walker on the break.

Its amazing how bad this Charlotte team is, I guess this is what happens when in the span of a year you let your 4 best players walk away getting Joel Pryzbilla and Corey Maggette back. I actually agree they may want to look to trade down. This draft has depth, and Charlotte needs more than a shot blocking power forward.
