valentinewhy not flynn or jennings. what makes rubio so special over them.
0 - Posted on: Wed, 06/10/2009 - 8:35pm #160736
grizz32ParticipantRubio is flat out better than them. Especially Jennings just compare what he and Rubio did in Europe and you can tell who is better. The Grizzlies don’t really want a point guard. We have Conley its just Rubio is a can’t miss talent and best available.

dwight12in the olympics last year. and i seen nothing special about him. like i said earlier hes no better than serigo. flynn is the better athlete, he has leadership, he played for one of the best college coaches in the game. and if conley is your point guard of the future then your asking to lose.

j1232eParticipantRubio has more potential which equals higher value.

grizz32ParticipantWhat can Flynn do that Conley can’t? Conley averaged 14 and 6 after the coaching change. He has crazy handles, improving jumper, and very athletic. If your a Magic fan you should know Nelson went 15 and 5 after his 2nd season. So why can’t Conley help us when?
0- Posted on: Wed, 06/10/2009 - 8:53pm #160749
dwight12conley is nowhere near nelson. conley might put up some nice stats. but i dont like at stats, i look at the games and watch and scout. see anyone can put up nice stats. but i watch conley play and im not sold on him as a starter in this league. and didnt his name get caught in trade discussions this past season. flynn would blow him out the water.

DeedsGrizzlies need leadership. For me Rubio has the most of it, playing in the Olympics and doing good. But Flynn and Jennings are both good players.
0 - Posted on: Wed, 06/10/2009 - 8:55pm #160751

butidonthavemoneyRubio is crafty. Flynn and Jennings just go ape s*** (Flynn is surprisingly effective) all over the court.
0- Posted on: Wed, 06/10/2009 - 8:59pm #160755
dwight12will be a bust. call me crazy but i do. yeah i know hes young but so what. it dont matter what age you are. i cant see rubio getting stronger like that, then has to be able shoot over taller and better DEFENSIVE players in the nba. He cant guard no chris pauls, tony parkers, deron williams, devin harris, billups type.

butidonthavemoneyYou aren’t the only person that thinks he will be a bust.

dwight12right?

grizz32ParticipantThere really is no use of me listening to your arguement because you will obviously say Nelson is better because your a fan of him. Nelson has a pretty easy job. He has the best Center in the league to throw the ball to and he can give it to Shard and Turk who are crazy shooters
0- Posted on: Wed, 06/10/2009 - 9:20pm #160765
dwight12you put nelson in conley place. and i bet the grizzs are 10 times better with him. not to mention nelson can shoot the lights out something conley can not.

butidonthavemoneyNo. I think Rubio is awesome. But I understand where you are coming from.
0 - Posted on: Wed, 06/10/2009 - 9:53pm #160789

auberParticipantThey have their point guard for the future.
His name is OJ Mayo
0 - Posted on: Wed, 06/10/2009 - 9:56pm #160792

butidonthavemoneyI don’t like OJ Mayo as a point guard. I know he wants to play point and I know Memphis wants him to play point but I think it’s a mistake.
Do most Memphis fans want him to play point?
0 - Posted on: Wed, 06/10/2009 - 10:08pm #160796
AllenParticipantHalf of the fans do. Half of the fans don’t. The Gm does. The coach doesn’t. And the grizzlies dont want a point guard. They want the best available talent.
0 - Posted on: Wed, 06/10/2009 - 10:13pm #160799
Ch13f23ParticipantI think mayo could play terrific at the point then they should just trade down their 2nd pick to SAC for the 4th pick + someone like Thompson/Garcia. If Thompson is included in the trade they should pick harden if available, if not someone like Evans could do you would have 2 combo guards playing together at the backcourt in Mayo and Evans, which would be fun to watch. And if its Garcia that is included with the pick they should pick Hill. Plus they should trade Conley maybe to Portland to reunite him to his old buddy Oden.
0 - Posted on: Wed, 06/10/2009 - 10:35pm #160807

auberParticipantI’m dying to see OJ Mayo do some damage at Point Guard. If the 2-4 Happens and Memphis gets Thompson out of the deal they will move Mayo to the 1 and draft Tyreke Evans in a heartbeat.
0 - Posted on: Wed, 06/10/2009 - 10:47pm #160814

knicksfreakParticipantI like Harden more next to Mayo. Evans needs to have the ball to be successful.

butidonthavemoneyGood point dude.

JNixonParticipantI know for a fact Jennings is better than Rubio. I am 100000% sure he will be better and one of the very best pg’s in the league sooner or later. Flynn will be an all-star caliber pg 2.
0- Posted on: Thu, 06/11/2009 - 3:49am #160858
ctw724ParticipantI think they should go with a BIG early, Thabeet or Hill, and then find a PG, like Mills or Collison later in the 1st Round.

Right cause he was only a 17 year old holding his own with the absolute best basketball players in the entire world. Yeah nothing special.
“I think they should go with a BIG early and then find a PG, like Mills or Collison later in the 1st Round.”
Only big around the 2 spot is Thabeet and Grffin and while one of those would be perfect to grab the other one is named Thabeet.

HueBoND 2001ParticipantI really want to see a high wire act with Gerald Green and Rudy Gay Warrick at the and Thabeet at the 5. Him and the iranian guy can fight for position..WE ALL KNOW GASOL WILL START But i like high wire acts more exciting
Whats up with people and Jason Thompson my god and garcia give me a break…u know how many talented guys at the end of rosters that wish they could play for a team like that…GODDDD enough of thompson he had to do what he did and so did garcia enough

birdman1113Participantjust look at what Rubio has done for Spain and hes only 18 Flynn and Curry are both coming off good years but theyre in the Ncaa theyre not playing against as many proffesional players.
0- Posted on: Thu, 06/11/2009 - 4:32am #160880
jmr2121ParticipantThe talent level of the NBA is far superior to the Euro Leagues where Rubio has been dominating. In D I basketball here in the states the tempo is far more extreme and the game is far more intense, just watch the games and see how intense defense is played. flynn and lawson have gone up against players that are far more athletic and physical than anyone Rubio has gone up against in Europe. ANd Flynn and Lawson both dominated the college scene while they were tested against top tier talent each game, unlike Rubio. This is what happens each year when the draft roles around and were trying to analyze European players’ game. We only see that they performed well in their respective league, but we have NO IDEA who they went up against. Flynn going up against Levance Fields 3 times in a year sounds a heck of lot harder to do than going up against who??? in Europe for Rubio. Same with Lawson, go to Cameron Indoor and destroy Duke and their system with ease, go for it Rubio. AMERICA!

xbadgerhustlerParticipantI don’t know Mayo (obviously) so this is pure speculation, but JEEEEZ man. you really want to be a PG? do you want to win basketball games OR be able to say that you’re a starting PG who has the ball all the time? to me, Mayo is picking the latter.
I think there might be certain teams where Mayo would be doing his team a service by running the point, but that’s just not the case in Memphis. They need him off the ball worried about scoring. He should not have to be concerned with getting everyone involved, he’s to valuable to his team as a scorer, IMO.
If he wants to bring the ball up the entire 4th quarter and run LBJ-esque Isos, I’m ok with that. But, if he’s running the show the entire game, I just don’t see the Grizz being in many games come crunch time, and then what’s the use of playing PG if you’re not going to win?
thoughts?

xbadgerhustlerParticipantat least OJ isn’t as much of an idiot as JMR… ppl like that are the reason people hate America.
I hate this misconception that basketball is awful in Europe… really? i’m not saying it’s NBA level, but come on…
the style of play is just different.
0 - Posted on: Thu, 06/11/2009 - 4:42am #160887
xbadgerhustlerParticipantthat’s clown
0 - Posted on: Thu, 06/11/2009 - 4:44am #160893
jmr2121Participantwho does rubio go up against?
0 - Posted on: Thu, 06/11/2009 - 4:45am #160895
leglockfanParticipantxbadgerhustler – OJ would flourish as the PG for the team and for his personal growth. He has amazing vision and by him having the ball he is able to create possibilities for himself and others. The times in which Marc Ivaroni and Lionel Hollins had OJ at the point the Grizz looked like a completely different team. They actually looked like winners for once
0 - Posted on: Thu, 06/11/2009 - 4:47am #160898
xbadgerhustlerParticipanti’m not even a Rubio fan and I’m not a European follower, but I know the game is of much higher quality than you’re making it out to be… Jennings couldn’t even get off the bench… he’s one of the most talented players out there… it’s because the European game doesn’t reward players for being athletic freaks~ you have to be skilled to get PT.
i just had a problem with the ignorant comments and the AMERICA at the end… that is why the rest of the world hates us.
if you’re trying to say that rubio’s game is better suited for European Style, and that you don’t think he’s athletic enough to play NBA, than that’s one thing… and I’d agree with you, but there are better ways of getting that across
0 - Posted on: Thu, 06/11/2009 - 4:49am #160899
xbadgerhustlerParticipantwhere do you think Levance Fields will “Advance” to in the next stage of his career? probably Europe, and he’ll probably ride the pine until he can figure out the Euro game. lol
0 - Posted on: Thu, 06/11/2009 - 4:52am #160901
xbadgerhustlerParticipantI’m not saying he can’t play PG, and maybe that is what’s best for the team~ admittedly, I haven’t watched a lot of Grizz…
But, can you legitimately say that the rest of that squad can score enough points to stay in a game with an NBA team? I think Mayo’s strength, especially relative to the rest of the squad, is his scoring. And, if he’s goign to be a effective PG he won’t be able to put that strength to use, IMO
0 - Posted on: Thu, 06/11/2009 - 5:08am #160916
jmr2121ParticipantThe world hates us?? Yea O.K. we do way too much for others to merit that. And wow man, take some pride..your living here, you know alot of people would kill to live where you live. This country is great.
And my comments all simply state the same thing over again…the talent level in America is far superior to European talent in the game of basketball. Saying America at the end, I didnt say it to discredit any other continent. Peace out treehugger, im going to go waste 2-3 rolls of toilet paper wiping myself after taking a colossal dump on your comment.
0 - Posted on: Thu, 06/11/2009 - 5:14am #160919
xbadgerhustlerParticipanthahahahaha dude… jmr
it’s ironic to me that you were trying to highlight the fact that the talent level in america is far superior to European talent and you cited Levance Fields to prove that point…
seriously, where do you think levance will be headed next year?
and the world generalizes idiot comments like “we do way too much for others to merit that (hatred)” as Americans being pompous jack-azzes…and i do love my country, there are just, IMO, better ways to convey love for a country than to try and bash other places.

leglockfanParticipantI believe OJ could end up as a Chris Paul type facilitator. He can penetrate well and score very well but granted his passing is not near Chris Paul’s level so don’t think I am comparing them. I think the Grizzlies are being held back by Conley. He is kinda scared to be honest. He plays the game with hesitation at every moment. He didn’t pull the trigger until the last like 15 games of the season and he didn’t do anything to improve the team (only his stat lines which aren’t impressive). If OJ stays at the 2 and is NOT the PG of the future then you would have to have someone capable of setting up OJ, Gay, Gasol, and the future 4 (whoever that may be) and unless you are blind Conley is not that person. His assists per game are ridiculously low (embarassing for a facilitaing PG). Rubio could really bolster the assist numbers and help with that. Or keep Conley and pray and deal the 2 for a quality 4 and change.
I still hope for a Grizz future (because I am a big fan even if they lose alot heh) that has OJ running the point and the team.
0 - Posted on: Thu, 06/11/2009 - 5:21am #160924
xbadgerhustlerParticipantfair enough… i will say that I think that Harden would be an ideal fit with OJ if he were ever to move to PG…then harden could serve as co-facilitator
I’d also point out that Conley’s numbers might have been too low cuz you don’t get an assist (at least you shouldnt) for passing the ball to Gay/Mayo and letting them drive to the hoop on an ISO that requires 15 dribbles at 1/3 of the shot clock….
but again, that’s just what i envision happening most of the time on the grizz team… i literally saw them once the whole year, and they were playing the TWolves, so it was…. nasty to watch
