Rubio is flat out better than them. Especially Jennings just compare what he and Rubio did in Europe and you can tell who is better. The Grizzlies don’t really want a point guard. We have Conley its just Rubio is a can’t miss talent and best available.

What can Flynn do that Conley can’t? Conley averaged 14 and 6 after the coaching change. He has crazy handles, improving jumper, and very athletic. If your a Magic fan you should know Nelson went 15 and 5 after his 2nd season. So why can’t Conley help us when?

conley is nowhere near nelson. conley might put up some nice stats. but i dont like at stats, i look at the games and watch and scout. see anyone can put up nice stats. but i watch conley play and im not sold on him as a starter in this league. and didnt his name get caught in trade discussions this past season. flynn would blow him out the water.

Grizzlies need leadership. For me Rubio has the most of it, playing in the Olympics and doing good. But Flynn and Jennings are both good players.

I think mayo could play terrific at the point then they should just trade down their 2nd pick to SAC for the 4th pick + someone like Thompson/Garcia. If Thompson is included in the trade they should pick harden if available, if not someone like Evans could do you would have 2 combo guards playing together at the backcourt in Mayo and Evans, which would be fun to watch. And if its Garcia that is included with the pick they should pick Hill. Plus they should trade Conley maybe to Portland to reunite him to his old buddy Oden.

I’m dying to see OJ Mayo do some damage at Point Guard. If the 2-4 Happens and Memphis gets Thompson out of the deal they will move Mayo to the 1 and draft Tyreke Evans in a heartbeat.

Right cause he was only a 17 year old holding his own with the absolute best basketball players in the entire world. Yeah nothing special.

The talent level of the NBA is far superior to the Euro Leagues where Rubio has been dominating. In D I basketball here in the states the tempo is far more extreme and the game is far more intense, just watch the games and see how intense defense is played. flynn and lawson have gone up against players that are far more athletic and physical than anyone Rubio has gone up against in Europe. ANd Flynn and Lawson both dominated the college scene while they were tested against top tier talent each game, unlike Rubio. This is what happens each year when the draft roles around and were trying to analyze European players’ game. We only see that they performed well in their respective league, but we have NO IDEA who they went up against. Flynn going up against Levance Fields 3 times in a year sounds a heck of lot harder to do than going up against who??? in Europe for Rubio. Same with Lawson, go to Cameron Indoor and destroy Duke and their system with ease, go for it Rubio. AMERICA!

I don’t know Mayo (obviously) so this is pure speculation, but JEEEEZ man. you really want to be a PG? do you want to win basketball games OR be able to say that you’re a starting PG who has the ball all the time? to me, Mayo is picking the latter.

I think there might be certain teams where Mayo would be doing his team a service by running the point, but that’s just not the case in Memphis. They need him off the ball worried about scoring. He should not have to be concerned with getting everyone involved, he’s to valuable to his team as a scorer, IMO.

If he wants to bring the ball up the entire 4th quarter and run LBJ-esque Isos, I’m ok with that. But, if he’s running the show the entire game, I just don’t see the Grizz being in many games come crunch time, and then what’s the use of playing PG if you’re not going to win?

The times in which Marc Ivaroni and Lionel Hollins had OJ at the point the Grizz looked like a completely different team. They actually looked like winners for once

i’m not even a Rubio fan and I’m not a European follower, but I know the game is of much higher quality than you’re making it out to be… Jennings couldn’t even get off the bench… he’s one of the most talented players out there… it’s because the European game doesn’t reward players for being athletic freaks~ you have to be skilled to get PT.

But, can you legitimately say that the rest of that squad can score enough points to stay in a game with an NBA team? I think Mayo’s strength, especially relative to the rest of the squad, is his scoring. And, if he’s goign to be a effective PG he won’t be able to put that strength to use, IMO

I believe OJ could end up as a Chris Paul type facilitator. He can penetrate well and score very well but granted his passing is not near Chris Paul’s level so don’t think I am comparing them. I think the Grizzlies are being held back by Conley. He is kinda scared to be honest. He plays the game with hesitation at every moment. He didn’t pull the trigger until the last like 15 games of the season and he didn’t do anything to improve the team (only his stat lines which aren’t impressive). If OJ stays at the 2 and is NOT the PG of the future then you would have to have someone capable of setting up OJ, Gay, Gasol, and the future 4 (whoever that may be) and unless you are blind Conley is not that person. His assists per game are ridiculously low (embarassing for a facilitaing PG). Rubio could really bolster the assist numbers and help with that. Or keep Conley and pray and deal the 2 for a quality 4 and change.

I still hope for a Grizz future (because I am a big fan even if they lose alot heh) that has OJ running the point and the team.

fair enough… i will say that I think that Harden would be an ideal fit with OJ if he were ever to move to PG…then harden could serve as co-facilitator

I’d also point out that Conley’s numbers might have been too low cuz you don’t get an assist (at least you shouldnt) for passing the ball to Gay/Mayo and letting them drive to the hoop on an ISO that requires 15 dribbles at 1/3 of the shot clock….

but again, that’s just what i envision happening most of the time on the grizz team… i literally saw them once the whole year, and they were playing the TWolves, so it was…. nasty to watch
