TooNice4TVParticipantIf Barnes leaves for the draft this year, do you think that Marvin Williams will have a better career than him?

cp33Participantmy friend was saying the same thing. I honestly want to see how he progresses before I decide one way or the other. I still think he has star in the making capability but people thought the same about Marvin Williams. we will have to see

Leonard WashingtonParticipantHe truthfully needs another year, needs to be more agressive and take it to the hoop instead of always relying on his outside shot

JRdaFilipinoParticipantlets give it more than a couple of college games before we further assess Barnes NBA future, shall we.
also, marvin williams is still quite young (around 24,25 i believe) he still has a lot left in him and can still pan out to be a very, very good player.definitely more than capable of what he is doing now

TooNice4TVParticipantThe different things that separate both their freshman years is that Marvin was on the NCAA championship team, and now. Barnes is on a team that is slowly rebuilding, and might take another year or two to develop a contending national championship team.
If barnes does stay in school, he will learn much more definitely, and it’s not like he’s losing anything big by staying. He might even have a chance to win a championship the following year. The only think that he definitely lacks is the killer instinct that Melo, Durant, and Beasley had.
I think his numbers are being hurt because he’s too passive within the system that Roy Williams is implementing. He wants to have team success, but he alone has to realize that he needs to be the man on that team.
I feel like he’s on the same situation as Beasley on the Heat. He just needs opportunity in my opinion to be the player everyone wants him to be.

sheltwon3ParticipantMarvin Williams is on the wrong team to be the player many have wanted him to be and also he tends to play within the team concept which is good but everyone wants him to be a dominate offensive force. Barnes should be alright if he goes to the right team but I think he should stay another year.

Mr. 19134ParticipantHarrison Barnes might not have the killer instinct but he is and was a better scorer then Marvin Williams ever was. And Williams is def on the wrong team. Imagine if it was him that signed to Golden State instead of Dorrel Wright? Marvin would probably be averaging like 17 PPG right now.

HitsterParticipantI’d agree that Barnes should be a better scorer than Williams has been and he already has a nice intangibles game so maybe how Marvin has turned out will be Harrison’s downside.
Although Marvin hasn’t become an All Star he’s had a solid NBA starting career and earned a good 2nd contract, it’s just that Williams, CP3 and possibly now Felton have all had better NBA careers. Marvin was 6th man on an NCAA Championship team so to make the leap to being an NBA star was bigger than some people thought and he was drafted on potential. If he had stayed another year in college and declared in 2006 then we may have got a real feel of his worth in a weaker draft and after a year’s starting for his college.
Barnes’s decision may well depend on whether a lockout is likely but also if his draft stock falls this year, he’ll need to really develop to restore it when all the 2011 NCAA Freshmen come on the scene but waiting a year helped the likes of Blake Griffin and more recently Evan Turner, Wesley Johnson etc really boosted their draft worth by waiting a year or two extra.

JNixonParticipantI think Barnes’ career will be very similar to that of Luol Deng’s. He doesn’t have the aggressiveness and mentality of a star, but he does have nice potential as a 2nd or 3rd option player. He’s a good athlete with nice all-around ability, but much like Deng, he plays with too high a center of gravity to be a consistent threat off the bounce, which takes away some of his effectiveness and aggressiveness right now and makes him settle. I think he’ll improve as the season progresses, and I see him as more of a impact player than Williams is.
With that said, I’ve always believed that Marvin Williams can be a better player if given the right chances. He’s very solid all-around and a nice athlete with good fundamentals. He just doesn’t play all that much like Barnes.

HitsterParticipantDeng has been the most often used comparison for Barnes with more assumed upside if he was to be a top pick. With Williams he probably needs to really develop his intangibles and defensive play rather like Shane Battier who was a top 3 pick and whilst his stats are never spectacular he is widely regarded as one of the best role players in the NBA and will be a highly sought after FA at the right price next summer.

Daprob89ParticipantMy only question is Terrence Jones or Harrison Barnes who has the better draft stock?

andxxxParticipantHarrison Barnes needs to show more aggresiveness because I believe he does actually have thee talent to be a star, but I’m not sure if he’s got the mentality
