I’ve been relaxing 2day and a thought came to me…

If all 82 games are missed, how about they run a single game elimination tournament…similar to the NCAA tourney…to crown a champion for this flaw of a season?

Crazy, but I would love to see it.  Give all the teams a shot.  Sure the champion wouldn’t have near the level of history over the course of a season and 7 game elimation tournament to support being a true champion, but can you imagine the excitement and draw that a tourney such as this would create?

And outlandish idea…yes…but I want to see some ball this year regardless and if all 82 games and the playoffs are missed, this certainly would be interesting to watch.

Man I have to say that i would love to watch that tourney.  In a one a done tourney it would all depend on how that team was playing.  Man I think the top four teams that could win it would be the Bulls, Magic, Lakers and Thunder.  Maybe dallas because they can shoot like crazy. I wonder if their would be enough money in it for the NBA to do it if they missed a whole season.  Somebody should make a bracket with all the NBA teams and see who the site would vote to win it.

Yeah it sounds like a good idea. a champion no matter who it is is better than a blank spot for the 2011-2012 season.

That would be AWESOME!  I think it would work if they gave the Mavs and the Heat first round byes.  So there would be 28 teams in the first round playing 14 games.  So then in the second round you would have the 14 winners plus the Mavs and Heat for the Sweet 16.  That would be pretty awesome entertainment.  There would be a huge asterisk next to the champion but who cares?  … then put the Final Four in Madison Square Garden or something.  … or in Cleveland if the Heat makes it to the championship game.

During the Final Four you could also have the dunk contest, 3 point shoot-out, rookie/sophomore game, and the all-star game (with players from every team except for the teams in the Final Four) on the days between the Final Four games.  You could have one Final Four game on Saturday, the other on Sunday, then the dunk contest, 3 point shoot-out, and rookie game (fans would pick the rookie team) on Monday night, the all-star game on Tuesday night, and the championship game on Wednesday night.

That’ll be fun and interesting, but i doubt the nba would do that…

The league got alot of flack for that 50 game season they had a decade ago…Phil Jackson still says that season should have an asterisk beside it….

I expect a deal to be done by september…

Yea I doubt the NBA would as well, but I would be amped to see something like this go down.  This would give every team a legit interest being that it would be single game elimination format and anything can happen.  Casinos would be flooding with business as well.  The question would be how much money the players would make as well given that it would be an extremely short "season" and under the new CBA.

We can all dream though can’t we.

I think we all agree an asterisk would be necessary, but I feel that way about the previous lockout season as well.  If it ain’t the norm…it deserves an ASTERISK ***

Thats a great idea, hopefully we will get our full season, but if not, I would take that over a 50 crammed games with a ton of out of shape players *cough Baron Davis, Big Baby Davis, Eddy Curry*

I would love to see guys like Lebron and Kobe fully rested, putting up 40 every other night. And if Kyrie and Tristan Thompson and Antwan Jamison and Anderson Varajao, and Christan Eyenga go off…. you never know, Dan Gilbert might have been right….

to me but if you were gona do it then it should be the top 16 teams.  Noone wants to see the Cavs or Twolves play, we know they’re gona lose.

I dont know i am a Warriors fan, even though i dont think they have a chance. I would still want them to be in it. Since it is a tourne all teams should be able to enter. How would you seed it? Would records from last year? If the tournament did happen, i dont know about using records from a whole year ago. I think random draw would be the best idea. And maybe best of 3? Sure itd take a long time, but i think that is more realistc. One and done i dont think there is enough money to make. If you made each game a paperview event, or you can buy the whole series. Then sigh some TV deal to broadcast it the next day or something. Paperview for basketball? Sucks i know, but if  they made it cheap like 30 dollars for the whole series. There might be enough money to be made to warrant this. It would be the ultimte PR move after canceling an 82 game season. I dont know about you, but they would be in my good graces again if they pulled a huge tourne out.

    Jlv2011,

The whole draw of this would be giving each team a legit shot at the title.  Anything can happen in single elimination games, IDK why the hell you would want to take some teams out.  I mean 30 teams is not an overwhelming amount by any stetch of the imagination.
