TRC1991Participant(remember, this means nothing if minny doesnt get the 1st overall pick)
This is a pretty insane idea, so feel free to destroy me but I was just thinking it doesnt make sense for Minnesota to draft Irving (assuming Rubio comes over) or Williams (cuz they have beasley) so what do you think about this trade:
Minnesota Receives: Andre Iguodala, Marreese Speights, and 16th pick in NBA draft
Philadelphia Receives: #1 pick in NBA draft (Derrick Williams), Nikola Pekovic, Lazar Hayward, Martell Webster, Anthony Tolliver
http://games.espn.go.com/nba/tradeMachine?tradeId=3ewzry7
lineups:
PHI
PG- Jrue Holiday / Lou Williams
SG- Evan Turner / Martell Webster / Jodie Meeks
SF- Derrick Williams / Andres Nocioni / Lazar Hayward
PF- Elton Brand / Craig Brackins / Jamie Skeen (50th)
C- Spencer Hawes / Nikola Pekovic / Anthony Tolliver
MIN
PG- Ricky Rubio / Luke Ridnour / Jonny Flynn
SG- Andre Iguodala / Klay Thompson (16th) / Wayne Ellington
SF- Michael Beasley / Wesley Johnson / Chris Singleton (20th)
PF- Kevin Love / Anthony Randolph
C- Darko Milicic / Marreese Speights
note: these lineups are being made without taking into consideration the potential signing of free agents
Why do this trade?
Minnesota – Dont have to invest/pay top dollar for the #1 pick, also dont have to draft a guy they dont necessarily need, plus get a veteran who can help lead a young team (Iguodala), and a young big man in Speights
Philly- Thaddeus Young is a free agent, and my educated guess would lead me to believe he will be paid a lot and made a starter by some other team so a starting 3 is a big need for the 76ers

the microwaveParticipantwhile i think the trade would be an option, i do not see my sixers letting Thad walk away.. Only reason he was not re-signed during the offseason was because of the new CBA going into effect, otherwise he would already be a sixer long term. I also think Kanter is a better fit if thats feasible. (i expect philly to match any Thad offer, unless they really make some waves w/offseason trades)

SwatLakeCityParticipantI like the idea. Not a bad trade. And I agree with you, I do think that if Minnesota gets the 1st or 2nd pick in the draft they will trade it. Although this doesn’t really address Philly’s need for a big man. Spencer Hawes is a free agent this year, so he might leave in the offseason. (The 76ers want someone a little more physically tough than Hawes. Like they had when Samuel Dalembert was a 76er.) I don’t think Pekovic is ready to start if that happens.

BKKnicksfanParticipantI would ask for Thad Young instead of Andre Iguadala. I think Young could have a better season next year then Iguadala.

ghettosermonParticipantTo be honest I don’t like that trade at all for the T’wolves. I like the way they are building, I don’t think bringing in Iggy is the answer. I think Iggy can help put a contender over the top as a #3, but for the Wolves I don’t think they should bring in his conract. Their biggest needs are PG and C, this trade helps neither. The drop off in value from the 1st pick to the 16th pick is monumental. BTW Speights is just not a good player at all. He has not developed the way we thought he might. His defense and rebounding is mediocre and he is one of the least efficient big men in the league. 47% last year and 49% this year from the field is horrible for a big man. There is a reason he only got 11 mpg. If I’m the Twolves I just draft Irving or Kanter and be happy, I’d only trade the pick if a team comes calling with a legit center or an elite scoring SG. Also I think it’s far too risky for the Wolves to assume that Rubio is coming over or will be a star when you consider how dire their need for a PG is. I don’t think you can pass up on Irving especially since the draft takes place before you’d ever know if Rubio is coming over. Worst case scenario is you end up with 2 great young PG’s and one can be an even bigger trade asset. You mention the Wolves not having to invest top dollar for the top pick, with the rookie wages the top pick still is underpaid comparing it to Iggy who makes 13 mil next year, 14 mil the year after that, and 15 mil in 3 years. Compare it to John Wall’s rookie contract which never reaches double digit millions.

suddsParticipantYou pretty much said what needed to be said. Whoever gets number #1 and two it will be Irving and Kanter 95% sure in that order, they offer the most value, and you don’t ASS-U-ME anything about where and when Rubio plays. Frankly if I were Minnisota I’d move Rubio, who would have came over by now if he really wanted to play for them. I just said this on another post, but if the Lakers had drafted Rubio, he’d have been there 2 years ago.
This post did get me thinking, that if the Lakers wanted Irving as a PG bad enough, could they offer say Bynum and Ebanks up for the 1st pick? To me that trade looks a lot nicer for both teams. What do you guys think about that???

ghrghrParticipantNot a bad trade. Iguodala is still young and is a great player. Will be an upgrade for the T-wolves and the sixers will have a great young core going forward.
What is still missing in that minny lineup is a franchise scorer(you won’t win with Love, Beasley or Iguodala as first options). That’s why I think they should draft the best player available and see what happens. If they play as badly as they did this year they can get a franchise player in next year’s draft.

The Scare Crow ReturnsParticipantI think Iggy would be a good player to trade for a big man but the Sixers love the guy too much to trade him for Derrick Williams…they would certainly be looking at Enes Kanter in the top 5, the Wizards have the cap room to take on Iggy for the 5th pick, he’d be fantastic next to Wall, Young, Crawford and Mcgee, he can help get them in the playoff hunt, now if you want to be a terrible Wizards team in 2012 of course you keep your pick this year and continue to hope for a great partner for John Wall…

Mr. 19134ParticipantIt’s actually not a bad trade considering that the T-Wolves really don’t need any more young talent especially not anybody in this draft. But the Wizards are an even better natural fit for Iggy who would be the locker room vet that John Wall needs and amp up their whole defense. I am still praying that the Iggy for Kamen trade eventually goes thru.
And the Wolves would have to draft Kanter I think if they get the first pick. Had Kanter played college ball I think he would of been the consensus top pick.

AllDayyyParticipantTWolves wouldn’t do it. Iggy is overpaid and isn’t the number 1 guy on a championship caliber team. Kahn doesnt care about taking time to build so he wouldn’t lock into Iggy unless he felt like he could be that guy. I think they would just take Willaims because Beasley will more than likely leave in free agency or they can try to move B-Eazy.

The Scare Crow ReturnsParticipantIt just depends on the team drafting in that position, I see Enes as a Rasheed Wallace like Pf/C in Philly, if the Wolves draft Kanter, we trade them Turner or Iguadola, if the Wizards draft him we give up Iggy, If the Cavs want Turner in place of Williams or Kanter then we get Kanter from Cleveland, The Kings would likely keep that pick and draft Brandon Knight, the Raps would likely want their pick and draft Williams, Irving, Kemba or Knight…the Wizards would love iggy in their lineup and don’t really need another prospect (especially when they own another 1st rounder in a uncertain draft)…the Wolves need a guy like Turner to balance their lineup not a player that creates another log jam at key positions…drafting Kyrie throws Rubio and Flynn on the trade block, ditto for Beasley and Randolph if you draft Williams, Kanter and Love is another Big Al/Love Imo and with Darko and Pekovic playing C too their pick could cause chaos on their already shaky team chemistry…bringing over Turner and showing Rubio he is their future point guard could stabilize that franchise…Rubio, Turner, Beasley, Love, Darko, Flynn, Johnson and Randolph as a the core…Sixers then get a great big man for their great wing man, Kanter could start in his rookie season and potentially anchor the paint…

mamadouParticipantchampionship caliber team….kahn, like whoa.
That would be a good trade for both teams, except rubio is a joke…
I still draft irving, hoping i could build the franchise around him and love, waiting the good pieces from the next draft, i keep ridnour as the good back up he is, and get rid of flynn and rubio.
U make terribles mistakes, assumes, don’t add others…

apb540ParticipantThe Sixers will not be offering ET for anything people. He is staying. As for this trade, it is a good idea but what exactly would Philly really get out of this? Non of the contracts they are getting back are expiring, but adding Webster would be sexy. If this trade were to go down, the Sixers would take a Center (prolly Kanter.) Trading one athletic but not very good at shooting forward for another athletic but not very good at shooting forward sounds kind of dumb.

GlenTaylorSucksParticipantThe Wolves don’t need Iggy- they already have like…5 SF’s. They need a consistent scorer at the SG position, a PG, and a good C. The only way the Wolves would trade the #1 to Philly would be if they could get Turner or Holiday in return.
0 - Posted on: Thu, 05/12/2011 - 2:57pm #531093

ghettosermonParticipant^^ How would that even work? The Twolves don’t even have big contracts to match salaries, they’d have to send 3-4 players along with the #1 pick for Bynum? I doubt it.
0- Posted on: Thu, 05/12/2011 - 3:19pm #531100
suddsParticipantMight match up better after Irving was signed, and add in a couple players, so What Minnisota is looking at a line-up of Bynum, Love, Beasley/ Johnson, Ebanks, and if Rubio doesn’t want to come then, then he needs to be dealt for sure because he will be dumbest kid ever.
The Lakers get a potential star at the position the need it most.
I’m not saying at all that I would do this if I was Minni because I still say draft Kyrie and trade Rubio…maybe him for Bynum??? but it looks better than the original trade proposed in this post for them.

surveParticipantThese trades sound good to us as fans, but execs just dont take those kinds of risks. I know its a weak draft but how many times has a #1 pick been traded on draft day? Get Irving and move Flynn and Rubio (who I thought they shouldve NEVER drafted in the first place, because I never thought he would play for them). Kanter is good, but its harder to find point guards at the skill level of Irving. Iggy could be that linchpin on a contender but I dont see what bringing him to Minny would do for the franchise immediately.

avikeshParticipantAs a sixer fan, I’d absolutely love to see this, but the pick will be Kanter not Derrick Williams. Kanter is just a better fit for us and gives us exactly what we need, plus Pekovic and Kanter playing next to each other would be very nice.
As for Iguodala going to the wizards straight up for the 5th pick, I don’t think iggy would be a good fit in washington at all. They’re looking for young players who can spot up and feed off of John Wall’s slashing ability, and iggy’s j is whack to say the least.
I’m trying to be unbiased, and I don’t really see why the wolves would do this. I feel like they should continue to stock up on young guys and then one summer pull 2 major trades to add 2 studs. If I were the wolves, I’d draft Irving as my pg for the future, go after Rudy Gay, Chris Kaman, and Monta Ellis all this summer. They definitely have the young pieces to swing deals for all 3 of those guys and can build a solid young core.

Sports Tears In Our BeersParticipantWe still say try and make a trade with the pacers (If Rubio comes). We would trade them the #1 pick, Flynn, Beasley and Darko for their first round pick #15, Granger and Hibbert. This way, Indiana can get either Kyrie or Williams, not have to pay either the amount they are paying Granger. Get a young stud in Beasley and a servicable big man in Darko. The wolves would then run out this line-up opening day:
PG-Rubio
SG- Wes Johnson
SF-Granger
PF-Love
C-Hibbert.
Don’t know if the Pacers do this, but we don’t see why the timberwolves wouldn’t.
Thoughts?
0 - Posted on: Fri, 05/13/2011 - 3:22am #531197
suddsParticipantThey don’t need a three, Johnson is going to fill that once Beasley is gone. He’s not a two.

zebanoParticipantDon’t get me wrong, I love Iggy but he is way too overpaid to be worth a #1 pick. If they land the pick if you love Kanter, take him but the safe route is to take Irving and offer Beasley/Johnson + Pek + #20 (or the other of Beast/Johnson) for Iggy. I doubt that Phi. goes for it but as a fallback you can throw money at Marcus Thorton or perhaps Rodney Stuckey to be your SG. Use Rubio + anyone not named Irving/Love to try and land a center such as Gortat or S&T for Marc Gasol (Deandre Jordan is of course another top choice).
The TWolves have no business drafting Williams, I don’t think he’s quick enough to play the 3 and is essentially another version of Beasley that might play better defense. Webster or maybe Johnson are acceptable 3s for the time being, especially if you can get a shot creator ala Iggy/Rubio/Irving/Stuckey or even Burks so he can be more of a 3 point specialist.
Theoretically this lands them with a lineup of
Irving/Ridnour
Iggy (more likely Stuckey) / Ellington
Webster/Johnson
Love/Tolliver
Gortat/Darko/Tolliver
If they want to do more they can also offer Love straight up for Horford. Once again it’s a move that I doubt that Atalanta goes for but they would be sacraficing a few boards + 3pt shooting for better defense while still having a crazy efficient 4. They still have 3 point shooting from Ridnour, Ellington, Webster, Johnson, Beasley and Tolliver.
If they land in the 2-4 pick range they should take one of Kanter or Burks. Biyombo is a decent target for them if they want to deal into the 6-10 range since Love really needs a rim protector.
With their #20 pick Darius Morris, Reggie Jackson and Nolan Smith all are good pickups depending on how their PG / SG situation shakes out (I don’t have much faith in Kahn landing Irving or Rubio for next year and sadly Smith would be the best SG on the team immediately).
