I love watching Kyrie Irving play, he’s a extremely talented scorer and shooter who has great shot making and shot creating skills. But the more I watch him play, the more I’m starting to realize that he doesn’t make anybody around him better, he’s an average defender, and it seems like he’s more concerned with scoring than finding ways to create easier offensive opportunities for his teammates. At times he looks like a shooting guard who’s trying to play the point guard position. And he has a style of play and overall skill set that is very similar to Monte Ellis. I love Kyrie Irving, but he needs to focus on developing into a true point guard who can be a great facilitator and not just a great scorer

Last season I posted about Wall being the better pure point and having the potential to pass Kyrie soon and I got attacked hard on here by a lot of people. I still stand by my claim.

Kyrie’s a mediocre defender, and for a point, doesn’t do a great job at involving teammates. Wall was averaging higher assist numbers on disfunctional teams which had arguably less talent then Kyrie has around him right now.

I think the problem is that Kyrie came into the league a pretty complete product, and we expected him to grow into a superstar player because he had a great first two seasons to his career. I’m not saying he’s peaked yet, but maybe his ceiling just isn’t as high as we thought. Maybe he just dominated early on because he was such a complete product.

I take Kyrie over any F day of the week, he is a dynamic scorer with a bunch of scrubs around him. He will up his game to a Curry level. Go to scorers are rare, he’s still learning, he can score at will and he knows it, he needs to assert himself abit but this guy is unreal.

he’s overrated. shouldnt even be starting in the ASG. he’s hyped up because of his crossovers and commercials. casual fans see he scores 20 ppg but they dont look at this shooting %, his command of an offense, and how bad of a defender he is. he doesnt make his teammates better, its all about him.

I’ve watched a few cavs games, and every time it seems the offense is everyone stanidng around (with the occasional off-ball pick for Cj Miles) and one of them decides to go ISO. Now I’m not sure if I just watched a our bunch of games, but if that "scheme" is consistent then I wonder if it’s kyrie’s lack of truly owning the offense, or if its chemistry/coaching/or effort issues. He’s doing a lot on offense that didn’t seem to me to be giving him much to work with. Kyrie needs a more dymanic and/or more invested team around him before I write him off as overrated.

Also, get Dion waiters the heck out of there, dudes a problem.

have done wonders for his overall popularity and fan attention/votes.

He seems more a personal success story. Good scorer on a bad team. Hes young so hes still all about his numbers to me. Im also going to give him a slight pass as I think very little of Mike Brown. Definately overated though, especially in the media.

The A Bennett decision has to be really depressing that entire franchise. So far it seems to be a disaster of a pick. Irving might be thinking that he is pretty much out of there as soon as they let him.

I would not write him off, he still has time. He is 2 years younger than Damian Lillard… Sure he may not be a great passer or defender but there is no reason why he cannot improve. Currently he has to play in the worst offensive system in the league and on an awful team…

The only reason Kyrie have ever been in the ASG, is because of the injuries to Rose,Rondo, and whatever is ailing Deron. He is a telented scorer but interested more in stuffing his stats. Kyrie cannot lead or carry his team…ask Dion They take turns fighting for shots.  Luol must be shaking his head all the time.

How many days have the cavs been over .500? This is the year they are supposed to make it into the playoffs and the EAST gave them plenty of reasons to make it with all the injuries but they are still bottom feeders.

Let’s give him a real coach and see what happens. Mike Brown is terrible at running the offense and that really has to hurt Kyrie. The Cavs front office is the biggest problem. Trading for Deng was a good solid move if he resigns, but hiring Mike Brown and making terrible draft choices are not how you get the franchise back on track.

A few weeks ago when I saw Kyrie doing work I saw the reeincarnation of Gilbert Arenas all over him. I loved Agent Zero back then and he was only second to Kobe in terms of excitement on the court, anything could happen back then. To me the are pretty much the same at this stage of Kyries career. Spectacular on offense and not interested in defense at all. Kyrie might be a better shooter but both are combo guards who don’t really know how to run an offense.

It’s always said how bad of an offensive coach Mike Brown is but it’s legit to ask if his players are part of the problem and his starting point guard is not innocent here.

Mike brown an his lack of creativity is a huge problem. There is a reason why his fgp has plummeted. Lets not just kill him here. Kyrie is an elite shooter and ball handler, he should not be playing the point. He needs a coach that understands that and starts using him on the wing, catch and shoot ops and screen and roll, but he shouldn’t be the primary ball handler. I thought waiters was the perfect compliment because he is a combo that handles the ball and did a good job of playing with other ball handlers. But they seem intent on turning waiters into a spot up shooter.

IMO the ideal situation is a lot more of waiters as the primary ball handler and Irving more off the ball.

Kyrie is overrated to an extent, but i still don’t agree with the whole he doesn’t make his teammate better cliche. Hes is a score 1st pg and his career assists #s are only slightly lower than pg with similar styles of play like Rose,Westbrook, Curry, and Lillard.

Also the Cavs roster isn’t constructed for Irving to pile up assists. Varejao, Miles and Deng move well off the ball and Irving does a solid job of getting them the ball in position where they can score, but Dion Waiters is not a good off the ball player, does not move if the ball is not in his hands and Tristan Thompson is a walking disaster on offense.

Lets calm down. Last year it was John Wall we were writing off and he has had a great year this year. Everybody was on the Kyrie bandwagon last year, now everyone wants to hop off like they did with Wall. Kyrie will be fine, a lot of the blame should be placed on the chemistry of the team and his mediocre teammates.
