SwatLakeCityParticipantOkay you Jazz fans. I think I finally figured it out. Why did we draft Gordon Hayward from Butler yesterday in the 2010 draft,
Reason: Two words, well more like one name: Kyle Korver
When I think of Kyle Korver a few things come to mind
1. Small school(my hometown by the way, YEAH)
2. Great 3pt shooter
3. Plays within team well
4. has a mop head hairdo
5. He’s Cute (at least according to Mormon Utah girls)We needed another Kyle Korver, why he is a free agent this and with the importance of resigning Carlos Boozer it will almost be impossible to resign Korver so we have to find his replacement.
Well his replacement must be someone who is like Korver. Let’s run through the list again, this time for Gordon Hayward
1. Small School (check)
2. great 3pt Shooter(shot 44% from 3 as a freshman, and just barely missed the final shot in the tournament to win Butler the NCAA title)
3. Plays within team well(check, listened to coach, played great defense, and did not seem to get all hyper and think its all about me)
4. Has a mop hairdo (check)
5. and most important He’s Cute (check, all the Utah Mormon girls will love him)if you don’t believe me check out these things, When this site pronounced him as our pick, Seth Summerfield said this about him:
Gordon Hayward is going to be beloved in Utah. He has the versatility and size to play both the 2 and the 3 in the pros and the Jazz aren’t particularly strong at either position (though hes better suited as an NBA SG). He’ll add offensive variety to Sloan’s rotation right away and is a solid defender. KYLE KORVER, STEP ASIDE THER’S A NEW DARLING IN UTAH.Now look at what Bill Simmons (an ESPN analyst says about the pick:
Utah picks NCAA near-legend Gordon Hayward ninth. He was two inches away from being the real Jimmy Chitwood. I loved everything about that pick: Made sense for the Jazz (they needed a perimeter scorer); I can make Utah/white guy jokes about it (what’s better than Utah stealing the best available white guy from Indiana?); AND, BY THE WAY IF YOU DON’T THINK HAYWARD IS GOING TO CAUSE A RIOT AMONG UTAH WOMEN, YOU DON’T KNOW UTAH WELL ENOUGH. THEY MIGHT AS WELL HAVE DRAFTED ZAC EFRON AND CONVERTED HIM TO MORMONISM.Seth Summerfield was right, “Step aside Kyle Korver there’s a new darling in town”, and he will steal all your girlfriends.
Before you know it we will be seeing these posters in the Utah stands:
“I heart you Gordon Hayward” or “Gordon Hayward, will you marry me.” On his first game as a jazz man they will be selling t-shirts with a big heart and a picture of Gordon Hayward in the middle, and all the mormon girls in Utah will purchase one and show it off.I know this seems pathetic but I am serious, Utah needed a new Kyle Korver. I just think its hilarious that it has be someone who all the girls will think he is gorgeous. Just like Kyle Korver. I know he will be a fan favorite.

IndianaBasketballParticipantI’m happy for Hayward. I was hoping he’d get picked by a team like the Spurs or Jazz. This situation is just perfect for him. Just like George Hill and Courtney Lee in 2008… It makes a HUGE difference when you’re drafted to a winning franchise. I think he’ll be in the rotation right away.
He’s going to be a fan favorite for a lot of reasons. The reasons you stated above, BUT… Mainly because he’s a Sloan type of player. High IQ, team player, plays hard/tough and just makes the right plays. He’s not the shooter that Korver is, but he has a strong knack for making them when they count. He’s a lot more versatile than Korver also. He’s going to be involved in some big plays for Utah throughout his career.
I’ve never been a follower of the Jazz, but now I’ll pay attention. I’m happy for Hayward and laughing at the haters saying he didn’t have a NBA game and would fall into the second round lol.

JazzinSLCParticipantGlad to hear you plan on following the Jazz in the future. The fan response here in Salt Lake City has never been more negative toward a draft pick. When his pick was announced at Energy Solutions Arena in front of thousands of Jazz fans, the “booing” was so loud I couldn’t believe it. The buzz around here about drafting Hayward is terrible at best.

IndianaBasketballParticipantI didn’t think it’d really happen, but I always felt that Hayward had a chance to be taken by the Jazz. Kevin O’Connor has been aware of Hayward for awhile. He was really impressed with Hayward at the FIBA U19 World Championships… Hayward caught his eye at the tryouts actually.
The 9th pick was a few picks too high for Hayward, but he’s a perfect fit for Utah.

ilmagoParticipantBut i think u guys could get much better value with that pick. I understand he fills a true need playing the 2 and the 3, but it is also true that he won’t be able to play the SF for extended time just cuz his defense is too poor to guard athletic swingmen. Imagine him vs pierce, carmelo or Lebron…it could turn ugly.
Plus…he is a good shooter. Check his numbers, he is not great at all. I believe he made like…36% of his threes this past season, way down from his freshman numbers. Good…but there is way better. To me he his ceiling is maybe…Korver or Kapono. Role players, nothing more.
Again, I am not hating, hope the guy will be good, but 9th pick was a big reach to me.0 - Posted on: Fri, 06/25/2010 - 9:28am #341441

IndianaBasketballParticipant@ilmago
Imagine anybody vs Pierce, Melo or LeBron… It usually turns ugly for everybody lol.
I’m sure Miles will be the starter and Hayward will be playing against second unit off-guards/small forwards.
They did reach for him at nine, but his ceiling is higher than Korver and Kapono. They’re both shooters only. Hayward has the potential to be more than just a shooter. Other than a few players in this draft, I think most will be role players.
O’Connor conducted workouts and determined Hayward was his guy, so he pulled the trigger. I don’t see the big deal.

butidonthavemoneyWhy doesn’t anybody think Kirilenko is going to start next season? When we put him in the starting line-up last year we won 17 out of our next 18 games.
He played amazing.

IndianaBasketballParticipantI guess I’m used to him being injured all of the time lol.

SwatLakeCityParticipantInjury does have a lot to do with it, but I think its more to do with the fact that we might loose Boozer. We should have drafted a big man to back up Millsap. Davis would have been perfect. Now, because we didn’t we will have to use AK as our backup PF, if we loose Booz. If we don’t, AK starts. Also at the beginning of the season Sloan did start AK when he was healthy. That probably is biggest knack. When AK is healthy he needs to be starting, but since we probably won’t have Boozer next year, AK will have to fill in as the backup PF.
This will most likely be the starting lineup (without Boozer)
Okur/Fez
Millsap/AK
Miles/Hayward
Matthews/Korver
Dwill/PriceThis should be the starting lineup but probably wont. (without Boozer)
Olur/Fez
AK/Millsap
Miles/Hayward
Matthews/Korver
Dwill/PriceIf Booz does come back than AK moves to the 3 but won’t start even though he should. I hope I’m wrong.
and Butler Bulldogs please tell me that Hayward will not be a bust. I just can’t seem to shake the feeling that he is going to be a bust and we are going to end up regretting this pick.0 - Posted on: Fri, 06/25/2010 - 12:18pm #341559

IndianaBasketballParticipantWhether he’s a bust or not depends on your expecations of him. He’s not going to be a star.
I thought he could be a solid player before the Jazz picked him. I’m even more confident he can be a solid player now. I think the Jazz’s system is perfect for a player like him and so is the Jazz organization. It’s somewhat similar to the way things are at Butler.
IF he does turn out to be a bust, which is possible, it won’t be for lack of effort, focus or dedication. He’s going to work hard and do everything imaginable to improve and win.

OhCanada-ParticipantI love Gordon Hayward and the Jazz as well. You guys gauranteed us a shot at the top guy on our radar other than Aldrich…Ed Davis, Paul George and Xavier Henry. Ed Davis then suddenly slipped from a projected 7-10 to 13th.Raps get a steal.
