ProudGrandpaParticipantI am pleased to announce that after a 4+ year climb, I have surpassed a 1:1 points-to-posts ratio. For the older users on this site, you may remember when 15-year-old me, tired of being an anonymous user on this site under an anonymous usernmane who really didn’t have much to say, decided to adopt a persona that would make him stand out…
And thus, ProudGrandpa was born.
And he was really stupid.
And as much fun as it once seemed it would be to pose as an elderly grandfather bragging about his "precious grandchil’ren" with every post on the forum, most other users did not agree. And 15-year-old me was still fine-tuning the sense of humor I have today. So I had some cringe-worthy attempts at humor back in the day. Needless to say, my point total went into the negatives and bottomed out at about -350. And I decided to change my ways. The username stayed but the trying to convince people I was an old man did not. i still played up the username at times, but for the most part, I just provided generic opinions about, mainly, the Pacers and the Big Ten and wrote stories and made fun, site-bonding-type threads that I enjoyed and others enjoyed even if other users thought they were pointless, cliquish, and self-indulgent. I made fun of Aamir. I alienated MikeyV. I pissed off, then un-pissed off McDunkin. And 4 years later, here I am, having 3373 points and 3372 posts and I think this is probably one of the greatest achievements of my life. It’s certainly right up there with leading my quiz bowl team to 6th place in the INdiana state tournament and learning to knit as a way of asking a girl I liked to prom. I’d like to thank McDunkin and NoMoney and I May Be Wrong for teaching me indirectly how to earn points on the dot net. I’d like to thank the Purdue basketball program for allowing me to have an area of expertise. I’d like to thank d-grizzly for calling me the c-word the other day and allowing me to get a ton of points by passively-aggressively taking his verbal assaults and for his claiming D-Wade would average 25 PPG next year. And of course, I would like to thank the man who makes all this possible, Aran Smith. And Adam Silver. And all of you. So thank you, friends, and may all your NBADraft.net dreams come true.

TheArtistPaysthePriceParticipantall your own posts and having no one ever give you a point. A 1 to 1 ratio is only breaking even.

d-grizzlyParticipantand there you go spouting off lies again. I said I think he will average 25ppg. I did not claim he would actually do so. There is a difference. =/

raybeasParticipantthat difference? "I think he will" and "I claim he will" have identical meanings to me.

ProudGrandpaParticipantLol man, trust me, I’ve been around this site a while, I’m aware of this. I wasn’t all that concerned about points, which is why I made this semi-ironic post about the "amazing feat" of getting a 1 to 1 ratio

d-grizzlyParticipantI will explain it to you. My opinion is he will do it. Do I guarantee it? No. I do not guarantee it. In my other thread I brought valid points to back up my reasoning. Wade had only 14 attempts per game last season and was not a #2 option last year… as he was in 2011/12/13.
I do not understand why it’s so hard for people to understand the difference between what someone thinks (but doesn’t guarantee it).

OhCanada-ParticipantTheres a fine line between gaining points in this forum and using this forum correctly. If your just going to say things to gain points then your bound to hold certain things back. If you disagree with a shared opinion your bound to or feel strongly about something radical your likely going to lose points. But at the same time if your not sharing your radical opinions or contributing to a conversation on a forum because you know you will lose points why are you on the forum.
Not saying you do that PG because Ive been in alot of threads with you talking about NCAA basketball and Playoffs basketball or the Draft where we would chat and gain zero points from the posts. But the forums number one feature is not the points butron its interacting with others who love the sport and want to entertain topics and discussions around the sport.

OhCanada-ParticipantFor example I have no problem with d-grizzly thinking Wade will average 25-ppg. Its a nice bold opinion and creates a good conversation regarding one of the NBA’s most marketable and talented players. I dont agree that he will score 25-ppg but I do agree his usage will increase. He knew people would disagree yet still shared his beliefs. Thats respectable.

d-grizzlyParticipantThanks OhCanada. I’ve never held back on this site.
Also, Mr. Grandpa and I have never gotten a long to begin with. I did offer to be friends with him, that was actually serious. He rejected me and crushed my feelings. So I hope someone p*sses in his applesauce, but won’t sh*t in his bowl of sh*t.

butidonthavemoneyCongratulations, sir! We should make a movie about you. Everybody loves a true rags-to-riches story. Dule Hill will play the leading role of NoMoney, Steve Buscemi will play McDunkin, and your role will be played by Burt Reynolds. It should also be a musical.
Does everybody still think that we’re the same person?
