Snubs15ParticipantI dont think the pick is as bad as you think. We will be front runners for the top pick next year and then valanciunas will be coming as well.

Tha_PrinceParticipantFair weather fans are my favourite.
Jonas was who I wanted second (after Knight), but it’s not as bad as you think. There may not even be a season next year, plus we finally have a C prospect worth getting excited for, sure he’s european but he doesn’t play like one.
Him staying over another year will surely get us into the top 5 again next year which is actually a draft with some All-Star potential, BC may have had some questionable moves but his drafting is his best asset as a GM.

shermParticipantThis is a good pick for sure. He’s a good, young rebounding center. He has good offensive post skills and isnt a Bargnani type of center at all. I believe Ed Davis and Valanciunas will both be double double players in the NBA. I think this is a sign that we will be trading Bargnani this offseason, and that we could get a good small forward for him. This pick also shows that Jerryd Bayless will be starting for the Raptors next season based on our team right now. The Raptors have a very good young team at the moment.

BradfomsParticipantYeah but even if it means we get another top pick next year, that still means suffering through another 20 win season…I guess this means Colangelo is here to stay…

LawDeeZeeParticipantjonas is good, he’s one of many candidates it seems who has the potential to emerge as the best player in this draft 5 years down the road – cavs were debating between him and thompson at 4 … jonas just slipped because of the buyout issues

Steven12345ParticipantHorrible pick…. Jonas is gonna take time to develop and the people of Toronto want an impact player now …. WHO was on the board …. Brandon Knight and you choose the Prospect are you a fucking retard Colangelo? he’s gonna take 3 million to buyout because he’s international and the NBA is going into a lockout this is the worst pick possible ….
Imagine this front court
SF-James Johnson
PF-Andrea Bargnani
C- Jonas Valanciunas
Every fucking team in the NBA will kill this team down low
Dwight Howard would score at will
And Dwayne Casey talking about improving defense
How is this pick gonna help0 - Posted on: Thu, 06/23/2011 - 4:07pm #552765

genzthegreatParticipantThere only one good thing to take from this pick. They like baylesss and are gonna give him time at pg this year that has to the be the reason why we didn’t grab knight or kemba. I must say i like bayless he plays like a beast at times

torontoraptors10ParticipantRaptor fans show their TRUE colours!
Listen you so called Raptors’ fans,
Why was Valaciunas a good pick? He has the potential to be the best player in the draft. There is going to be a lockout next year so why not stash him away in Europe? It’s not like the Raptors are going to be playing anyways. Next year we have another lottery pick and it will be a HIGH one, and we draft whoever (Barnes, Jones, Sullinger, Davis)
I mean can’t you people think long term instead of bashing the Raptors?
Jonas has great size, he is actually a tough player (tougher than Bargnani), he is a good free throw shooter which is hard to find in a big man.
Smart move by BC, I can’t wait till next year. Y’all need to calm down and know you don’t have the power to control the draft. It’s done, just make it as positive as you can instead of getting your panties in a bunch.

deshawynkeys91Participantthere will be a season next year d. stern is too smart a commissioner to let the league take a year off especially in these times… i have no problem with the pick but lets be honest Raps biggest NEED is a last line of DEFENCE and this kid is not that… and as well this pick means that Bargs has to be moved no later than the trading deadline… Colangelo can still turn things around if he can find away to lure DeAndre Jordan from the clippers who is a free agent

PulseGlazerParticipantQuick fixes in the draft DO NOT make success. Jonas is a long-term answer at the 5 – the hardest position to fill. At worst, he’s a good Biedrins with 10 boars 2 blocks a steal and a ton of energy. At best, he’s Zo. That’s worth the #5 either way and perhaps the best in the draft. Add in Bayless and Deroazan developing as the backcourt of the future, a 3 like Barnes next year, and you have a real team!

thparadoxParticipantOther Toronto fans, you really piss me off with your ignorance.
Drafting a Euro vs. not a euro is not the issue. This was the right pick. The last two picks were Ed Davis and DeMar DeRozan…
Andrea Bargnani is dead to me. That doesn’t mean that every Euro is a bad pick.
Colangelo has sucked at trades and free agent signings…. Turkoglu was a massive massive error. Colangelo’s drafting has actually been excellent.

BradfomsParticipantWhat all you people who talk about "building a good young team over the next few years" fail to realize is that, without some kind of moderate success, you won’t be able to keep good young players like DeRozan or Ed Davis past their rookie contracts…nobody wants to play for a team that consistently loses 55+ games per year. Why do you think all our best players leave? Obviously you can’t have instant success, but you also have to show your important pieces that you’re committed to winning games each and every year…

King CaluchaParticipantI’m an advocate of euro players, but I think this is not a good pick. Raptors can’t wait 1-2 years for Valanciunas to develop or to get rid of his contract in Europe. I think they should have gone for a sure thing. Don’t get me wrong. I believe this guy has All-star potential.

PulseGlazerParticipantRight but the new CBA might make it a lot, and I mean a LOT more financially beneficial to stay with said losing team for 7 years rather than 4. Most players, you’ll note, already do that.

Pretty much summed up all of my feelings on the topic.
While Valanciunas is a pretty similar player to Eddie Davis, they should fit well together in a few years. If nothing else, at least you have two post players that will actually compete on both sides of the court during games. That’s something Toronto hasn’t had in a while.
