JNixonParticipantWell, to be honest, we don’t have a title contending team because we’re one of those teams that’s good enough to not be in the lottery, but not a serious threat for the title. Andre Iguodala is our 1st option, which in all honesty isn’t best because he’s more of a 2nd option, even to me, and I’m like his biggest fan lol. He would be best off with a post player that is a 1st option offensively, like Bosh or Amare, but Brand (who was supposed to be that player) isn’t the answer. Speights was definitely emerging as a scoring post player that we could use to relieve Brand, but he’s going to be out for as much as 2 months, and 2 months is enough to destroy a season. But with Brand’s salary and relative ineffectiveness, it’s going to be hard to move him and give us the leverage to make a good move for one of the stars in the 2010 free agent class or a trade before the deadline. We have players on our roster that are better off as bench players that the starters they are (Dalembert, BRAND, and most times Lou Williams) as they aren’t really good enough to help the Sixers compete for the ultimate goal: An NBA title. It’s time to make moves to get better now!!! We aren’t going to make it past the 1st round with our current team! Anyone can see that…

redbaboonParticipanti know that was tough for you to say Iguodala9, and you present some very good points. They NEED to move Brand, alot of teams could use him, but not for that contract. Speights looked ligit from what i saw. They do need immediate help, but they also have some nice pieces in place. Don’t get too impatient. But, yes they need to make a move, even if it’s not a blockbuster, they need something.

LOL, ya just noticed?
They need the other A.I.

JNixonParticipantI don’t think we need a perimeter chucker like Iverson, I think a post player would be best, because Iguodala, Young and Williams are good perimeter scorers. But Young and Williams are bad defenders, and Iguodala has played worse D this year than we can afford. And the scoring down low needs an upgrade. We have a few pieces though no doubt about it.

L.ShapParticipantAlright, main priority is to get Brand going now that Speights is out and to deal him once he plays well. Agree or Disagree?

JNixonParticipantAGGRRREEEEEDDDD! Hopefully he plays well…but knowin him……

IndianaBasketballParticipantYoung needs to step up. It’s early, but I expected more from him this season. His numbers are pretty much down across the board.
Get Brand going and then trade him.

L.ShapParticipantAlright, so if best case scenario ends up (staying positive here), who are viable trade partners?
0 - Posted on: Mon, 11/16/2009 - 1:46pm #230382
Michael.S.ParticipantSpeights is injured, correct?
0 - Posted on: Mon, 11/16/2009 - 1:48pm #230383

JNixonParticipantAnd some people had the nerve to say stuff like he’ll be better than Iguodala and that his season last year was more impressive. I like Thad, but not as much as alot of other people. He has a weird game to me. But he’s been poor this season, especially defensively and as a slasher.

JNixonParticipantCorrect

quincey hodgesthats exactly what i told you awhile ago iggy..not a title team but not bad enough to be in the lotto..im not really sure what the team needs other then another star..i dont thing iggy i the type of 1st option that will lead you to a title. i think hes more of a scottie pippen type.

Michael.S.ParticipantYoung will be better. Igoudada is what he is right now, a soild player in every category
0 - Posted on: Mon, 11/16/2009 - 1:52pm #230389

JNixonParticipantBut what is Thaddeus Young though?
0 - Posted on: Mon, 11/16/2009 - 1:54pm #230395

L.ShapParticipantOk, this may seem harsh but Young is a very good fourth option.
0 - Posted on: Mon, 11/16/2009 - 1:55pm #230397
Michael.S.ParticipantYoung is solid also, even while he is still very very raw, plus that will change in time.
0 - Posted on: Mon, 11/16/2009 - 1:57pm #230398

JNixonParticipantI said 3rd option, but 4th option actually is very true.
0 - Posted on: Mon, 11/16/2009 - 2:06pm #230405

JNixonParticipantSolid at what? He’s a pretty good slasher when he has a clear lane to the rim because of his 1st step, and an OK rebounder, but everything else is not anything special.
0 - Posted on: Mon, 11/16/2009 - 2:18pm #230410

IndianaBasketballParticipantYoung is a 4th option, 3rd at best. I’ve read from a few people on here that he could be a #2 or even #1 option, but I just don’t think that’s possible at all.
What would you guys say Iguodala’s ideal position is… A shooting guard or small forward?
0 - Posted on: Mon, 11/16/2009 - 2:26pm #230415

JNixonParticipantHe’s more of a SG to me, he defends 2’s better than 3’s to me.
0 - Posted on: Mon, 11/16/2009 - 3:28pm #230446
AlexBoiiParticipantYes, Andre does play 2 guards better, but in terms of his position on the Sixers he’s certainly more suited for the 3 because of his driving ability and lack of natural perimeter scoring ability. Yes he shot 3-6 from 3 against Chicago, but he was 5-20 the previous 6 games.
As for the Sixers in general, the obvious opinion is simple: They’ve been a medicore playoff team since their 2000-2001 finals appearance. Nothing special about the team, usually good enough to make the playoffs but so what. Just ends up with a mid-level first round pick that have mixed results in terms of impact. This season is looking no different, since typically they get off to the kind of start they have, leading to a late surge to make the playoffs
It was a tough blow with Speights. He’s my favorite player on the team and 6-8 weeks out surprised me. I even believe GM Ed Stefanski acknowledged there was no truth to the Brand trade rumors because of Speights injury. Had he not known there was a possible serious Speights injury prior to the public announcement of the it, Stefanski’s response to the trade rumor would have been the classic “no comment.” He needs Brand on board for now to give him the confidence to hold down the 4 spot.
I personally was hoping for a 4 team-trade scenario for Brand. It’s odd because the scenario involved Kenny Thomas (recent rumor about being traded for Emeka Okafor) and former Bobcats Raja Bell & Vladamir Radmanovic (now Warriors). So now there’s the highest doubt that situation will happen.
As for this season, I think an interesting move would be to sign Allen Iverson. With Speights out, we have no bench. I think an A.I. signing would lead to having him in the starting lineup, move Iguodala to the 3, and have Thaddeus Young be the spark off the bench. At best, this could be a solid move and when Speights comes back you have the dynamic duo off the bench. At worse, the move would have indifferent results. Iverson couldn’t make things any worse.
