I remember Joe Forte getting a little acclaim, but Bogans was ranked higher pretty much the entire time they were both at DeMatha. It was close, and I guess Dave Telep was sort of wrong:

    http://statsheet.com/bhsb/recruiting_class/1999

Caron Butler was ranked below DerMarr Johnson.

Either way, these are getting a little out of hand. The bottom line is, usually these players are all pretty good, and the separation, if any, happens over time. Needless to say, most of these guys, even if not "the man" or the best player on their HS teams, show signs of being exceptional basketball players.

I know its way to early but you can almost say Evan Turner over Demetri Mccamey. Mccamey was the number one option on their high school team and had an decent career at Illinios, but wasnt drafted this year. Turner being the number 2 option was poy in college and a #2 draft pick last year.

MikeV, good post.  I just remember Forte as getting more hype in his senior year.  then of course he went on to have a spectacular 2 years at UNC, winning ROY and POY honors on his way to being a 1st round draft pick while Bogans had a solid but less specacular 4-year career at UK and becoming a 2nd round pick.

I would say the hype was with Forte since that senior year…when they got to the league, thats when things changed.

This is a tough one to find, but you could say Trevor Ariza>Hassan Adams, since Adams was actually ranked higher coming out of Westchester High School

Greg Oden won Indiana Mr. Basketball over his teammate, Mike Conley Jr., at Lawrence North. So far, Mike Conley Jr. has had the more productive NBA career.

I havent found any documents to verify it but maybe some of you can.  I remember hearing this when I was growing up…but it was said out of the "Three Amigos" (Sherrell Ford, Donnie Boyce, and Michael Finley) that Finley was the least regarded of the 3.  So much so that some were calling him the sleeper of the 3, but the one who may have the best career.

depending on who was doing the ranking, it could be said that Paul Harris was more touted than his teammate Jonny Flynn who graduated a year after him.

Jason Frasor slightly over AJ Price. Frasor’s bad knees doomed him worse than Price’s aneurysm.

there careers essentially had about the same level of success, but Hurley was much more highly regarded.  Hurley was a great college PG who played about 5 years in the league…Dehere was a big time scorer in college for 4 years and played about 6 years in the league.  great HS backcourt, great college careers.

I’m not sure in terms of recruiting sites or who was ranked higher, but locally in the Chicagoland area it seemed like Dee Brown got more publicity than Shannon Brown.  Maybe it was because Dee was a senior when Shannon was a junior.  Things have worked out much better for Shannon though.

when Dee was a Sr…yes, maybe he was the more heavily hyped because he was a top 20-25 recruit (you would know better than me)….if you are comparing them both as Seniors however, Brown was the more highly touted because he was a consensus Top 5 recruit.

Not really fair to Fields, but he was the more highly touted highschool prospect.
