DanEboyParticipantI know it is not based on team needs yet but there is no way the Bulls would take Hassan ‘Upside’ Whiteside when Aldrich, Damien James, and James Anderson would still be there.
The last thing they need is another Eddy Curry type project.

SwatLakeCityParticipantHe was ranked so high, because of his ability to block shots, and still score, but he needs to get bigger, and be more of a force down low. Teams just go at him down there and eventually they get the ball to fall. He cannot block everything. Teams are not afraid of going right at him, so he needs to be more assertive, and just be a force down low. If he went to a bigger school, he would probably get more recognition and be higher up on draft boards.

butidonthavemoneyHis coach said there were some maturity and attitude red flags. (via Draftexpress)
I was high on Whiteside until last week, now I would be horrified if my team drafted him.
NBADraft.net was the only site I knew of that had him ranked so high.

BasterdInABasketParticipantGood to at least see monroe ahead of whiteside finally. Id like to see what players like monroe favors and cousins would be doing in the mac…probably all averaging 20 and 12

chicago2ParticipantThis kid hassan, can play. I know him pretty well, why all the negative things. Yes he is a young kid, with alot of potential. but he can play and if he continues to work he will be great ive heard his coaches say he has maturity problems but really who would listen to the coaches at marshall?? (via Draftexpress) but at the end of the day he is a smart kid with a good head on his shoulders and he deserves to be in the top 5 in the draft this kid is just getting some bad information but no need to talk about his game he is a good player no big man is a finished product once they come into the nba but if a big guy works he will be fine I just hpe this kid listens to the right people bc Ive seen alot of broken hearted kids where people told them things and lied to them and it turned out to not be true!!

OldSkoolBasketballParticipantdoesn’t he average 7 blocks a game? Thats pretty impressive

Adi JosephMaybe you guys don’t realize this, but the mock draft is reflecting how players are viewed by everyone, including both Aran and the scouts and GMs he talks to.
We don’t operate off entirely the opinions of our staff, or even close to that.

joecheck88ParticipantI think that brings the whole mock draft into better perspective for everybody. So I assume him being at 11 is kind of refelctive on how the people on these forums feel about Whiteside too. If he is at 11 based on about an average scale of multiple peoples opinions, then, some scouts and gm’s love him and some have some serious questions, just like the people posting.

sheltwon3ParticipantI think he is moving down because a lot of guys are moving up to be solid prospects. I mean it is hard to not go with a sure thing in Wall, Turner, Johnson, Cousins, Favors when Whiteside is right now potential and these guys i mentioned has a high upside but I dont believe he should fall that far and also why would Chicago grab him. I think you should swap patterson and Whiteside. Utah could use Whiteside and Chi town could use Patterson. Why would Utah grab another power forward. They only need a small forward and a defensive minded center

Aran SmithKeymasterSo tanking in the biggest game of your season doesnt affect a player’s stock??
True. We had Whiteside higher than he probably deserved to be at 5. I spoke to NBA scouts who were at that Tulsa game that said they would be reluctant to take him in the lottery this year. One in particular with a team that has a top 10 pick said they would not take him. They said they still think his ceiling is top 2 in this draft but based on his lack of intensity and focus they’re not sure he ever reaches that ceiling. I did speak to scouts that still believe he’s a top 10 pick based on upside. I personally think he’s got a ton of potential and will be alright in the long run. And actually in much better shape not going so high. And he also will end up a much better pro if he returns to Marshall for a second season. Possible #1 pick. More on him later.
PS: When we compared Morrison to Bird and Stevenson to Jordan, it was never saying these players would become the next Bird and Jordan. Stevenson was actually the first player I ever interviewed so I guess you could say I was a little biased and had high hopes for him. The comparison was made while he was in HS and never changed. He also came directly out of high school, which in my opinion was a big mistake for him. Morrison obviously fell far short of Bird. His physical limitations were just too great. I guess we all should have gone with our initial reaction to him. The hype around Morrison was obviously out of control and we went overboard with that. But those comparisons are not trying to say a player is the next ______ but more an indication of style of play and type of player they could become.

the I in winParticipanthe is more cordinated than hasheem. He is going to need time, 2-3 years before he is a big contributer.

thunderforthewinParticipantdont pay out on hasheem the dream
0 - Posted on: Tue, 03/16/2010 - 11:14am #266561

JNixonParticipantIt’s because he’s weak, a TERRIBLE defender, and a player that blocks shots instead of defending the post. He gives up position just to block shots on D. Jerome Jordan ate his lunch that game, and Derrick Caracter kinda did the same thing. He’s also a weak finisher when he plays against NBA-caliber bigs, and an erratic mid-range player.
He’s going to be a bust if he declares after this season. He’s an NBA-level shot-blocker, but nothing else about him is NBA-ready right now.

The8thDeadlySinParticipantHe was a guard in HS and he has some guard skills. Kid has some stuff that most Cs dont have. I could see him being a PF instead of a C in the league.

DanEboyParticipantAdi, so you guys do talk to GM’s?? Please inform Quincey of this because he thinks you guys just get all your info from the internet. I just have a thing about proving that guy wrong since he never thinks he is.

RUDEBOYThose Marcus Camby comparisons are right on the money….
0 - Posted on: Tue, 03/16/2010 - 2:18pm #266614

GreenLanternParticipantYou can only trust about 20% of the negative comments about a prospect from NBA types at this time of year. That scout that said he wouldn’t take Whiteside at ANY point in the lotto is full of #%@&. So I can assume that team wouldn’t come near Cousins (who has a worse attittude) even at pick 14? You gotta be kidding me. I guess that scout will be in the lottery for a reason.
